- democracynow.org - Fifty years after the 1968 DNC protests in Chicago, we continue our conversation with Black Panther Bobby Seale, arrested for inciting a riot and gagged during the Chicago 8 trial stemming from his speech at the protest, and SDS activists and organizers Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers. They discuss decades of police repression, the police murder of Illinois Black Panther leader Fred Hampton, and the prison strike now underway nationwide.

He was so ahead of his time.
Nice to see people still talking about the assassination of Fred Hampton. He knew too much and inspired too many
great man
Salute 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Nobody knows who he is anymore. Colin Kaepernick is the new Revolutionary
Man, I am a middle aged black man who was being born during the times they speak of and was raised in Chicago. These stories just give me a better idea of what my parents who were old enough to feel and experience what their lives must have been like. I say that knowing exactly what I've experienced and am sad to think that I most likely won't live to see a time when things will be much different and with all the perfected distraction strategies in place today, I feel my grandchildren won't either; I am still living so I purposely skipped over my children. Hell, today as we live and breathe there are groups that want to make interests in real history even less than it is today. I find what I think evident in the fact that there has been weel over 9,00 views of this content and less than 50 comments before I began commenting. One thing Americans are experts at is burying our heads in the sand on the most important issues and raising hell over the most trivial.
Thank you for this important show.
Always respected Hampton. Charismatic as hell, a born leader. Dohrn and Ayers were in way over their heads
Nothing has changed
Thanks to this Chanel "democracy now"I now know the real history of Haiti
I remember the Black Panthers and Boody Seale and Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers. WOW!
I was five years old when I understood I was different. I was able to say I am of value.
This is hard to watch.
TheFunkadelicFan It is. I wish the Black Party were still here today, and as organized. We desperately need these type of strong, community focused, leftist groups now, especially with the alt-right and fascist groups which are popping up, organizing, arming themselves, and getting built and learning to scrap.. I hope to god that we don’t have to get into this kind of violence in 2018, or in the next couple years, but we’re moving towards that type of situation. People waiting around for some big sign that fascism is serious enough in America need to wake up, that’s almost never how it works; this shit slowly builds bit by bit, and the state is never on the right side.. The left has got to get its shit together, we’ve got to get serious, and we’ve got to organize, bc this planet is quite literally being destroyed, and we have to get power to stop it, and we will be met with force, and we have got to be ready..
TheFunkadelicFan Also, Funkadelic is a fucking great band, as is Parliament, of course.. my fav funk groups, by far.. ✌🏼
George Clinton----One nation under a grove Getting down just for the funk of it😄 ha ha
Courageous people is who God 🙏 uses. Fred was one too
Love all of u thanks
Thankful for the brother Bobby
Aretha Franklin was always there for the civil Rights movement she was there for Dr King whenever he needed her and she was always involved
the struggle continues, the same power structure is in place, reagan to bush to trump, with corporate dems in between, obama was symbolic appeasement, a potemkin village of change, the same power structure with a black man in the white house, *we still need real change.*
It’s funny how they frame themselves in this great light
This is the wickedness the black man faces in this vile and wicked authorities and wicked people.
Bernadine is a remarkable woman! I am grateful for her support.
Didn't she laud the murder of Sharron Tate?
@@jasonanders7003 yes. she did that 53 years ago.
Is this statement a joke?! She and Ayers are domestic terrorists, murderers, and bank robbers, they are no heroes! They got off on a technicality, were saddened because they didn’t do more terroristic acts, and then infected higher education by becoming part of the faculty.
They are no better than every other sociopathic narcissist who have taken advantage of others and manipulated people into thinking they actually stand for anything other than their own selfish ego, greed, and power.
Proof - if justice isn’t blind which means there is no justice which is justification for everything they did, where are they today with the FBI and “MAGA” Republicans being raided, parents being tagged with threat tag EDU for speaking out at school board meetings for covering up their daughter’s rape, and so on. They are silent because it has nothing to do with justice - it is about control! Malcolm X - white liberals are the greatest threat to blacks! There is nothing these people did that warrants anything more than the death penalty!
I'm a Black man, born and raised in Harlem, 1955,
As much as I like Bobby Seale, I have to say that Heather Ann Thompson's book on Attica, paints a very different picture of his involvement in Attica (and a much less flattering one at that).
"...more determined to raise the stakes, and not just be the white people who just wrung their hands when black people were being murdered." - Bernadine Dohrn
When are they going to make a movie about the Black Panther party 🤔
They did one in the 90's, they probably should do another one. I think it should be a little longer then first one. So they can go more in depth about all of the chapter parties that where involve. You should check it out!
One day an encyclopedia on the history of the horrors and warmongoring of the united states of america and the courage and tenacity of the resistance movements. 🇦🇪🇺🇲🥀
How do we accurately secret conduct a poll before the internet.
Counter intelligence (informant)
These are All brave people and Jesus Christ 🙏 only is against all unrighteousness. Amen
Weather man could have and should have did more on behalf of the Black panther party.
How so? It seems like weather took the front line risks to an extreme degree to me, outlived the panthers and the BLA, and ended up almost entirely locked up. Edit: when I say outlived I don’t mean individually, I mean the subgroups of weather, continuously allied with panthers, kept doing major actions into the mid 1980s
Fuck, so much brave people!
Who was Bobby Seal?
LOOK> Harlem Young Lord Member, sitting there wearing a red wine colour noose, tie, smh."
We also need to speak on abortion which have murdered over 64 million babies since 1973. Over 19 million black babies
13:20 why is statement of responsibility given in racial terms, when some say its a class struggle? just ask those in puerta rico 🤷♂
Long live to resistance ✊♥️🇵🇸
Palestinians lives matter
Black Lives Matter
Latinos lives matter
Slavs lives matter
Indigenous people lives matter
End colonialism! End occupation! End genocide!
No quarter
I wish that the same people that takes up for black people would take up for innocent unborn babies
No one seems to get the real significance, and that is that literal murderers were not only prosecuted but were rewarded promoted and went on to become policy makers. Bobby talks about me, me , me and how many black he ushered into to political positions but can't say how they effected, or more accurately had no effect, on the change he says is still required. I mean can people see past the stories told by videos like these and make themselves understand the impact it had. Then can they go further than that and see the parallels in what is happening to this day. I appreciate those that attempt to shine a light on what transpired in the no so distant past, but without being able to make connections; how much good is it actually doing.
It's as if all of these stories purposely stop short of presenting this information in ways that will spark new movements that ask the same questions they were asking back during those times. I'm sure that's what those brave souls are screaming to happen from so many graves. They are not saisfied with Obama and Jay Z.
People Like Jimmy "Human Rights" Carter who supported Pol Pot at the UN as a way to punish Vietnam and Ronald Reagan who supported the South African racists invasion of Angola.
He had a lot of brain washed young black men who gave there lives carelessly and unresponsible for a failed and cult themed politics....and then to crack jokes, smh, a pychopath.
What sources do we have to verify these events? In light of how I’ve seen many media lies in similar situations recently im reluctant to believe at face value that certain “protests” are nonviolent. A relevant example is the breonna taylor case where all the original media reports were deliberately deceptive and coordinated.
Walter Cronkite's framing of the state organized racist murder of Fred Hampton,
"In Chicago today, two Black Panthers were killed as police raided a panther stronghold."
[the bed in Fred Hampton's apartment]
Reports of Police and Military officials are almost always reported as the unvarnished truth until shown otherwise.
Bobby Seals sounds extremely apologetic, with no remanence of the Black Panther Party. It’s interesting how he was safely in-prisoned while his comrades, the BPP were being gunned down.
Its Interesting that you would think someone was prison is safe. Being held against their will on trumped up charges. You seem to be implying it was all to avoid the struggles of of his people 🤔
See Jesus Christ 🙏 is neither republican or democratic he is against all unrighteousness
I’m from New Haven but i wasn’t born during Bobby seale case I would of been on trial too
