Could you explain when the designation PU for pick up is used? I’ve seen several references to this term on guides about clapperboards/slates, but I’ve not seen its usage explained clearly anywhere.
You would write PU after the take if you're not starting the action from the top like all your other takes, but just do the end for example

Brading Images Thanks for clarifying this. Also, do you ever use the alphanumeric system of labelling shots where a number identifies the scene followed by a letter for each shot as opposed to just using a continuous slate number? From what I understand, this protocol will just use the scene number without a letter for the master shot of a given scene and then each subsequent shot is labelled from A to Z. This to me seems like a very precise and efficient way of logging shots, but different videos I watch in slating seem to always discuss solely one method or another, so is this just something that will vary from set to set?
