Take a look at Ten Hag's Ajax, and you'll notice he avoided using an overlapping fullback on one side. Keep in mind that an overlapping fullback also brings a defending winger from the opposition, turning it into a 2v2 scenario instead of a 1v1. Ten Hag's strategy is to isolate our winger in 1v1 situations. This is a deliberate tactical decision by the manager. We also switch play from one side to the other, creating more 1v1 opportunities for the winger.
Yes it’s the wrong tactical decision if you have Garnacho and Rashford in those areas. Also if you’re making a run from deep it’s hard for the winger to track, especially against a 5-3-2 like Brentford’s.
I was surprised Alvaro Fernandez was never given a run in the first team. I assume that was around his defensive capabilities since he is exceptional going forward. However I would be amazed if INEOS are prepared to admit they got that wrong only a few months after they sanctioned it and buy back the same player having lost significant money in the process. Amass has the same defensive issues currently. They will wait to see if Malacia can resurrect his career before splashing significant cash because we are constrained by FSR and midfield is an athlete free zone which is killing us against the better teams.
@AtlantisFootball In the last few games, Rashford hasn't been played as a traditional winger. He's been positioned more centrally, almost like a right-sided No. 10. Ten Hag's approach is quite unconventional, and it seems we're aiming for positional fluidity, with players interchanging roles and the formation shifting. This is also part of why the players sometimes seem confused. The Brentford game was tactically interesting. I agree that Garnacho is more of a reactive dribbler, but considering the number of chances he creates over 90 minutes, I wouldn't be too concerned about using him in isolated 1v1 situations. He's not the kind of winger who relies on combination play; his biggest issue is decision-making. However, I'm not worried-it will improve with more experience.
@ianrichards1839 no its because ETH has shit talent ID and doesn't play the academy. Plus Ineos has nothing to do with Alvaro deal. ETH and the glazers team sanctioned a loan to buy deal that Benfica triggered.
looking at raphinias performances recently, i think rashford can challange himself to become more, especially in these central build up phases, like in the freeze frame where dalot got on the ball, rashford so care free, not making behind the defence or coming short to recieve the ball and drive. I honestly think he is better suited in these central areas because there is no available LB, but he needs to start making impacts on games for ninety minutes
Didnt hansi do with raphinha what touchel did with dembele .. and what eth did with rash last game.. to make player out of wide wing to play more central /channel like 10 ish role
All of this analysis is great, but it would make no sense if he is not going to build on it.. We need an identity, and i liked the fashion of football we played in the second half against Brentford, and I'm sure all the real United fans enjoyed it also.. So what Ten Hag should now do, is to work on this identity, because without an identity, we will never be able to be consistent, because we would only be chopping and changing regularly.. A performance like that in the second half should motivate him, so let's see if he's going to change it up again in today's match..
I think he’s trying to have extra security around the back by always restricting one of the fullback from going too forward too fast as in his previous systems.

It'd make sense if united had wingers like Mitoma or Saka. Rashy and Garnacho are blunt 1v1, Garnacho mostly
Mount can definitely be very useful for United if he's ever fit (he won't be).

Would like if you could do a video about a potential 3421. What would it bring? How would it look like?

3:37 Rashford should have been where Eriksen was. He could then make the run into the space at a quicker pace to create problems.

Why can’t we convert Anthony to a left back

He should have played the third man
Not hojlund but rashf, one touch back and hojlund could curve his run to recieve
0:59 its basically why we bought Mount, but he never fit 😢
I honestly think he just lucked out for one game as Brentford sat back 2nd half. We will see normal service resumed next couple of game..
Nah trust the process 🤣
