      But create a heroic situation in which he may die.
      Also note. It is a game of chicken. Truman lives because he pushes it to the limit. He doesn’t “beat” the storm, he weathers it to the point of death. The director finally hast o call it off. M

      I don’t think the director cares about that.
      The thing about the director is that he is an artist, and Truman was his masterpiece. It wasn’t about the money or anything else. He made Truman and he wanted to remain in control.
      That’s what this scene is about. Why he’s telling them to raise the sun early and form a big search party. Why later he would rather drown Truman than let him leave. He knows that stuff gives them away and ruins the show. There’s no way to spin that. But the director doesn’t really care. He just needs to keep Truman here because he needs to prove the world he created was worth something.
      Everyone says they could just get another baby and do it again, but I really don’t think he would. For the director it was about proving he could stay in control, but Truman already proved him wrong. The director failed.

I'm glad it was removed, since the canon plot implies he had been planning to take the boat and knew what he was doing, leaving us in suspense, rather than having Truman try and fail to bike the bridge and only using the boat as a backup. With no extras on set, that means he could easily get out until the moment they realized he was gone. There would only two people who would have access into his home. One being the neighbor as we see and the other his wife, but by this point she was removed due to Truman's actions and her no longer wanting to be apart of the show. So really it was a well played stunt on Truman's part.
      The only thing I don't get is how he was able to dig that hole. We know earlier in one shot he was attending to the spot/garden, but that was before his realization. Man do I want a sequel to this movie. It’s been decades since it came out, so it could take place that many years later and we can see how Truman ended up.
    He could be struggling with paranoia. He could bump into the actors that played his friends, families and neighbors and have a real conversation with them for the first time. We could see him still adapting to the pains of the real world and maybe even getting weak at one point and slightly longing for his old life back on the show where he was enslaved but protected.
    There could even be some great dark humor. Like maybe he’d see an article about the man that played his dad actually died in real life, since in the show he “died” but now he’s dead for real. He could even get briefly emotional at the scripted memories he had with his fake dad before snapping back to reality.
    They could go either way with his fame. Either he can’t live a normal life because everyone treats him differently, or now that the show is over everyone has forgotten about him and moved onto something else, especially considering it would take place in modern times where trends come and go quickly.
    He could finally end up confronting Cristof in the end. Maybe he’s in jail or destitute and Truman finally has the courage after so many years to look him up and talk with him to try and get some closure. In the end I would imagine it would be a bittersweet but hopeful ending where Truman would come to terms that dealing with life’s realities is still better than living in a safe and protected in environment. Or maybe it ends darker where Truman feels there really is no difference between the two.
    I feel like there’s just so much potential in seeing a man struggle in a situation like that. Especially since despite being “free”, he’s still living in a world where a lot of people are just “acting” to get what they want out of you. Man please, someone grab Jim Carrey and make this before he retires like he says he wants to.

      @kafkaf27 Год назад +31

      A sequel would ruin the beauty of the movie’s ending; the reason we don’t get to see Truman’s life after he leaves the show is because his life isn’t being broadcasted to anyone anymore, even to us as the viewers. Sure it’d be interesting to see how he copes with the outside world and reality, but it would beat the entire purpose of his escape; It’s bittersweet, which is what’s so poetic about it

We should see Marlon's parents training him to do that, and maybe one episode showing Truman's birth mother watching the show and seeing her thoughts on it.
