    DEAR VIEWERS,
ANIME ONLYs and READERS of the LN/WN - FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY
*DO NOT SPOIL ANYTHING. LET HIM FORM HIS OWN THEORIES*
    FINALLY!!!!
01:41 The look on your face
07:59 That's how unpredictable he can be. Literally vibrating infinite possibilities with Future sight.
11:14 Well, this is Rudy's first time meeting _anyone_ who knows who Hitogami is.
It'd be like meeting another anime fan IRL in the early 2000's.
11:41 Implosion of the lungs. What better way to take out a mage than removing their ability to say incantations altogether.
    13:08 No, he can't.
13:14 Think of the one word that George Bush liked to mispronounce on television.
14:07 So far in the series, _Rudy has never_ used incantation-less healing. It's one of his shortcomings alongside the inability to improve his swordsmanship. The same reason why he's a genius in elemental casting is his detriment for healing magic.
17:00 Remember "Blessed Children" from last episode? Here, we get to see how that's perceived on the other spectrum.

My guy might miss a thing or two because he's talking but he's clearly engaging with the content. And these mother fucking children cannot keep their mouths shut. Someone pointed out a very beautiful thing with how the episode is structured. So, this is the only time we get a foreshadowing of events to come. The whole "Hi, you might be wondering how I got into this mess?" thing. And that sets up Orsted and his curse perfectly for the rest of the episode.
Because now, we the audience KNOW he's trouble. We know what he's about to do, and so we are afraid for the party. But we don't know HOW it happens. We don't know WHY it happens. And so, along the way, as we get closer and closer to that unknown, the tension builds, and a feeling of dread fills the air as we watch the party unknowingly walk closer and closer to their doom.
Until... they stop. They stare. And then, HE appears from the mist, and a small shiver runs down our spines. Because we are afraid of what he'll do. But at the same time, the CHARACTERS are afraid, because of his curse.
And in that instance, we feel, in some small way, what the characters feel in that moment. And every time Rudy opens his mouth, even though justified (in his mind and due to previous events), we feel the same thing everyone else would feel in that world: uncontrollable dread.
    Such a beautifully structured episode.

I see this and totally understand that and can appreciate it/see why people appreciate it. The HOW and WHY and very huge things and for me in this instance and because it unfolds in a MT way(which is normal), I felt robbed of the experience of first contact. If there was some crazy subversion as to why they ended up like that then I’d be okay with it.
Orsted is definitely a huge player but I don’t know him. Who I do know is Ruijerd and to this point he’s been feared universally. I would’ve loved for my “Omg Orsted is HIM” to come from the actual exchange of blows between them because Ruijerd being no diffed shatters our sense of comfort or safety. Instead we get the shock value of him towering over Rudy with his visage shadowed while the party has been brutalized. Most may prefer that for the reasons you stated but I didn’t like it as much.
The events of the episode regardless was crazy as can be!

    • @danil_shishkin

I totally agree with both positions. It was a brilliant way to help us "feel" Orsted's curse, but it spoiled a really shocking event and it's a little bit frustrating. That's how I felt a year ago, but right now I want to say only one thing: this episode is just a child's play, all this 23 episodes is just a prologue and character's introduction. So I'll see you this summer, we'll laugh and cry while watching the second season together.

    • @MasterOfBasara
      @MasterOfBasara Год назад

@@RonCanns Yeah, this is a case where I can see both sides and they're perfectly valid. I can see why they would have structured this episode in the way they did and the people who appreciate the style of storytelling (Especially in this instance, where it was likely done for the purpose of letting you "feel" what the characters in-universe are feeling). You know what's coming, and so every time you see the red dragons or when they start talking about the Seven Gods, you immediately pick up on the foreshadowing. You think about what's going to trigger this incident. Every time Orsted approaches Rudeus with his hand in a stabbing position, you wonder "Is this the moment?"
I can also understand why people who are not a fan of that method of storytelling would just feel like you've just been robbed of a major moment. You know how it ends up so you're just waiting to see it down. You know they're all getting demolished and so it takes away that feeling of suspense. The shock that would've come from them just meeting Orsted without the start of the episode would've brought a different kind of tension that would turn to dread as you see how strong he is.
It really just comes down to which side of the fence you're on. The latter would definitely be the "safer" option, because you don't have anything feeling spoiled, but I can appreciate the "risk" of opting for a more creative approach in this instance.

    • @HiddenStr3ngth

It's probably the worst thing in the anime.
It doesn't add much other than distracting you from the rest of the episode and spoiling the outcome.
Which adds less tension if anything.
The whole point of it is cheap suspense. That's what it adds. And it's not wroth it, it makes things worse overall.
The way everything is directed and presented is what gives the tension. These things give the tension and clearly shows he's "trouble". That spoiler scene in the beginning does very little. You would have the same fear and tension and whatever you want, without it. Due to how everything is done. The composition, Orsted and his expressions and look. Ruijerd and Eris being terrified. The Ox jumping of the cliff. And everything following that.
It would be even more tense if you didn't know how it will end.
Again, it's more cheap suspense than anything else.

The reasons Rudy talks to Orsted are
    1. He could not feel the curse of being feared by all beings of Orsted

You nailed the gist of this turning point. Rudy is getting comfortable with this world despite the mana disaster. He is a strong mage, and he has invincible Ruijerd with him. There is nothing they can't handle. Then, wham! Orsted dismantled their party and showed them just how puny they are compared to the 7 Great Powers.
Imagine you are just chugging along the path. You ran into a stranger who asked, "I don't mean to pry, but do you happen to know someone with six fingers on his left hand?" You answer "Yeah, how do you ----" and wake up in the after-life with a hole in your chest. That's how absurd Rudy's day went.
Poor Eris. Every time she made some progress it was immediately robbed from her. She managed to land a hit on Ruijerd after much training, and Rudy just randomly got an Eye of Foresight and defeated her. She trained for years more and finally Ruijerd acknowledged her as a warrior. Then Orsted demolished her the next morning. Give her a break damn it.

He talked to him because Rudy talks to everyone, he's been the guy who talks and asks questions in the group. Also he had no fear or hate for the Dragon God like the others so he had no idea what was happening to the others beside seeing them "surprised" or "scared" but since the Dragon God didn't act or talk necessarly in any scary or threatening way he probably thought it was a good idea to ask the question to the person who might know it (considering he knew everything about Ruijerd and Eris, he probably just thought the dude was a knowledgable person), also at the end Rudy said "Yes" about the Man-God in a happy way because he probably was excited to hear someone actually know something about the "Man-God". From Rudy's POV nothing was worrying about the Dragon God beside how the other 2 acted but even then Rudy has always seen himself as someone that can talk himself out of a bad situation so he probably just thought that as long as he only talks and asks question nothing would go wrong.
Also Rudy was never able to do healing with incantation, that's why when his throat was crushed couldn't heal himself since he couldn't speak

EDIT: He actually got excited finding someone in the wild who knows Hitogami since the thought of a person giving personal revelations via dreams is hard to believe so he got comfortable at the prospect of having a kindred of the secret. He just got excited and thought he made an acquaintance with Orsted at the mention of Hitogami. LOL.
Edit2: I guess it's more like "Hey! YEAH! I know that guy! You know him too?! How do you know him?!". It's like walking at the grocery store and meeting someone who knows your favorite band or your favorite anime, or some obscure thing that you love, or maybe your mother or your father, or maybe your best friend, or someone you look up too. For me it's like suddenly meeting someone in the wild who also loves Mushoku Tensei. Does that make sense? LMAO

Concerning Rudy's reaction to Orsted mentioning the Man-God. I thought it was pretty realistic. There's been this enigmatic figure talking to him in his dreams for what, 2 years now? (I forget how long he's been on the Demon continent for at this point).
I mean, I agree that of course he wouldn't openly talk about the Man-God to anyone. It's not something you'd bring up in a conversation. But Rudy just met the FIRST person who seems to know about the Man-God, so I think it's totally realistic for him to impulse-say what he did. The shock of hearing "Man-God" from someone else and his thirst for knowledge about who/what the Man-God is, he probably didn't even think about it and just blurted out his reaction.
Anywho, please please be careful reading comments for this episode. In other reactions, people like to insinuate/spoil a LOT of things that us, as non-LN readers, have no reason to know yet. You LN readers know what I'm talking about! Keep yo mouths shut. lol.

About the "fireball" Rudy cast, he had a nuke as an image in his mind, his fireball turning to different colours means it just went up and up and up in temps, violet flames should burn at around 40000K (71000F), warm and cozy ... If Orsted hadn't absorbed it, they'd all be dead (Orsted would probably be ok), the mountain range would have sustained some heavy damage too.

  • @UltraStarWarsFanatic

I also would have preferred they didn't show us that scene in the beginning, but there is one neat purpose that it serves : it puts the audience on the same page as Eris and Ruijerd. Or perhaps on the same page as the entire world, except for Rudy.
Without knowing that Orsted was about to obliterate him, the audience might have been inclined to cheer Rudy on as he tried to open a dialogue with a mysterious new character. Just like how he started a dialogue with Ruijerd the superd, despite Roxy's warnings. Orsted wasn't hostile at first, so it would seem reasonable and consistent with Rudy's character to try to talk to him, normally that is.
For Eris and Ruijerd however, Rudy's behavior was that of a complete madman. Because they had fallen under Orsted's curse, they wanted to avoid him at all costs. And the audience feels the same way, because they know what the result of talking to him will be. To get the audience to yell "what are you doing, stop!" at Rudy through the screen, as if they too had fallen under the same curse, I think that's the intended effect. The audience identifies very much with just how Eris and Ruijerd are feeling, and it's only Rudy who doesn't get the memo. Only he can't feel the tension, and that alienates him from everyone else. Still, it takes a lot of momentum away from the event itself, so I'm not sure achieving that effect was worthwhile in the end...

TL;DR I understand not liking the flash forward trope that is usually a cheap way to grab attention and milk a near miss written into dramas. I felt the same, but hear me out.
I read the LN before I saw this episode. In the novel, there is no warning. We have Rudy's perspective. It goes from a conversation on the road full of curiosity and potential, to an Armageddon level fight that destroys the party. What we got out of it was how surprised and desperate Rudy was.
When I saw this episode, as soon as they flashed forward and showed us the devastation, I was pissed. This was not going to be the same experience as the book for anime viewers, the surprise was ruined.
It was after weeks of seeing anime onlys react to the episode that I changed my mind about the flash forward. The foreknowledge made every viewer dread Orsted as much as the people of that world. We feel the same as Eris and Ruijuerd: appalled that Rudy is talking to Orsted.
Happy with the studio choices or not, this episode was great. Sweet action, into epic mage battle, a mess of questions raised about Dragon-God "I haven't met them yet" Orsted, Man-God, the world in general, and some answers.

Totally understand why cutting ahead isn't something that you're into. As to the LN, it doesn't do the whole cut ahead thing for this episode, it just goes through the events in normal order. Well sort of. What you do get is a chapter called Turning Point 2, so the reader does know that something is going down. If I'm remembering correctly, you also get that same opening monologue that Rudy gives just without any context or scene like in the show. It's there to imply someone will die this chapter but you don't know who or why (my money was on Ruijerd when I was reading). I'm personally a fan of how the show did it. The whole point of naming the chapter/episode "turning point" is to build suspense and cutting ahead accomplishes that for me. It's the whole thing about telling the viewer there's a bomb under the table. That said, totally understand why you're not a fan of the technique especially when it gives you the exact details of what happens. It sounds like that killed the tension for you so you might have liked how the novels did it a bit more where we don't know what will happen, only that it's bad and someone will probably die.

The chapter started with that same monologue about "things happening suddenly," so it was still clearly communicated that something bad was about to happen, but we weren't shown what it would be. Actually it was worse in a way, since without seeing how Rudy was the one being gored, the "people suddenly die" line made it seem like one of the supporting cast was gonna get killed off...

Rudy is always missing/cut out from the scenes with Ruijerd and Eris because he's not really from this world, so the Dragon God had no knowledge of him. So I'm just starting to watch, and I just want to make a quick comment concerning the episode title/spoiler issue.
I'm all for going in blind, totally spoiler free. I know from watching you over the past year+ that you are very anti-spoiler so far that you won't even watch the openings of shows unless you're 100% sure you've seen all the characters/etc. That's totally fine and I respect that. It's how you like to enjoy shows.
For the episode titles, especially in MT and the "Turning Point" episode titles, those are the actual names of the chapters in the LN. That suggests the author INTENDED for the reader to go into the chapter with some apprehension of what may happen. Naming an chapter "Turning Point 1" immediately gives the reader a thought of "wait... Turning Point ONE? You mean there'll be MORE like this?!?". It sticks in the reader's mind that there'll possibly be another "Turning Point". And when the reader reads the title "Turning Point 2" it instills a sense of forboading that, again, the author most likely intended by naming the chapters so obvious.
So ya, I'd argue that knowing the episode titles (esp the "Turning Point" episodes) is the author's intention to give the viewer a sense of what may be going down in the upcoming episode. The author most likely wanted the reader to enter the chapter with a certain mindset.
BUT, regardless of the author's intention, it's everyone's own decision on how they want to enjoy a show. I just wanted to point that out as food-for-thought.
EDIT: So finished watching. Making an edit here. Talking about Turning Point 1, of course the episode started off how it did, we had no idea at that point what "Turning Point" meant back then. Episode 21, and the LN chapter, the author is going to assume people read the title, so we already KNOW it's a Turning Point (unless you don't read chapter titles or episode names, that is). So it makes sense to start episode 21/that LN chapter with how it is because we already know something is going down. The anticipation is not WHAT will happen, but HOW it will come to pass.
Anywho, that edit is just my personal opinion on the matter.

I get your point but I am still upset after the Light Novel volume 12 table of contents and the page after with the lines "translated" by Jean RF Magott spoiled the whole book for me.

    • @Kelven486
      @Kelven486 Год назад +2

@@khrndr I 100% get that. When I asked LN readers if the "Turning Point" was actual chapter titles (I wanted to make sure I had my facts right), they replied the same, that some of the table of contents spoiled a huge moment for them, which absolutely sucks.
I'm not arguing that Ron should read episode titles if he doesn't want to. People can enjoy shows however they want. I just wanted to give a possible reason why the author named these Turning Point chapters like that. The author probably wanted the reader to read "Turning Point #" and be hyped/excited for what is about to happen.
Spoiling WHAT happens in the episode/title name is going a bit too far in my personal opinion. For example, if Turning Point 1 was named "Rudy & Eris: Teleported to Demon Continent!?" that would have sucked.

There was no hostility coming from him and he answered the questions that were asked. You are telling me that if someone you came across had some knowledge of a diety that only YOU know about, you wouldn’t be intrigued to talk to him about said deity? It would kind of stupid to not say anything honestly. And who would’ve known that it would’ve turned violent immediately after that

THE PLOT THICKENS! And some details from Orsteds dialog, he knew Eris and Ruijerd but said he hasn't met them YET, he even said he didn't expect he would meet them yet, he said Eris improved and he knew she could be better even without having met her before, he knew all about Greyrarts but didn't know of Rudis existance. When i first saw this i was like "Orsted is a regressor, wonder which round he is on" XD and yeah i agree with you the time skip and then back to present type thing has kinda lessened the impact of that whole exchange. Just imagine how shocked and even more hyped you would be if you saw Ruijerd getting clapped without knowing he would be. Also agree with the point of why Rudi decided to be so open towards this man he just met that scared the shit out of his companions just being close, doesn't make much sense or fits Rudis character who is way more calculated then that

Another reason we don't feel bad hinting at them is because even in the novel. You read the title "Turning Point" before knowing anything that happens in that chapter.
