MD, I'd love to see you really challenge yourself and do a 3 or 400 pound budget challenge. Like facebook marketplace tanks and finding deals to see how far you can stretch your money while still making one of your impeccable tanks.
@@MDFishTanks it's beautiful and we love it. I was just thinking maybe there could a unique challenge for you. Like a 10 gallon old school tank for as cheap as possible. I have faith in you 🤙
Hey MD , " that couldn't have gone any BETTER " , but seriously the whole video was a pleasure, and Dave is the most generous man in the business .... hope you left the shop with a few pieces of hardscape that you can't wait to set up your next display !!! For the longest time I have been seeing more faces in driftwood and a few in stones but check out the back one @ 11:44
I've been watching you channel for a while now, absolutely love you aquariums. Today after many months of studying I am doing my 1st planted 10 gallon 37ish liters aquarium. I had a few aquariums in the past, just never planted. My wife and kids gave me $300 to spend for it for fathers days. I am so torn on what fish to get now lol.
For nano/schooling fish chilli rasboras are a great option and if there are lots of greens the red should nicely pop foe singular you can't go wrong with a nice betta or some guppies even
Lava rock is my favorite aquascaping stone. Cheap, lightweight ,high surface area, inert , you can find a lot of textures, pairs well with other volcanic stones. I feel like they dont get called high-end because the are so easily sourced and cheap.
Another great scape! I'd love for you to create another take with your Buda statue. I loved that scape and miss when you used to get creative with extra stuff like the owls and Buda.
You greatly appreciate this channel and all of my scapes are based on your videos and expertise. I would love to know if there was a place where you could see all of the aquascapes you have inspired.
When you said that, he’d never capped soil…😧… I almost fell out of my chair & out of my car, lol. 🤣 He has all the best ingredients at his disposal! What?
great work as usual don't get me wrong but at the final stage even big pieces of wood all covered by plants, so you can't see any details is there any sense in using all of them?
Half the fun for me is picking out the rocks, gravel & sand. I like seeing the various layers built up in my natural tanks & I start out with a heavy, native, red clay then a rich compost layer that's 1/3 crushed carbon from my firepit, followed by a small capping of depleted compost/indoor plant soil & then capped by an .5 inch (1.5 cm) of gravel & then topped with an inch (3cm) of sand (for my cories to snuffle through). Over time, you watch it turn to gley (anoxic blue-grey) & watch critters & roots move through the layers. I find that more enjoyable than a pristine tank - though I love those too, but realistically, I can't maintain that.
Love the videos MD - relaxing, inspiring and educational, keep it up please! Just wondering how you deal with tanins when using wood in your smaller tanks?
Explained in a previous video. MD says there is nothing wrong with that method but he doesn’t need to redo and reuse the substrate so often for new setups anymore now that he has a lot more tanks. Net bags were quick and convenient to remove and reuse. Less need in longer term setups.
We know you use the super glue and paper towel method for gluing hardscapes but could you please show us the sort of glue you use; brand, type and how much to use cheers heaps 😁
It would help if when you do these "budget" aquarium videos that you include, either at the end or pinned in the comments, a detailed list of equipment, hardscape, gravel, and plants including price. I'm quite sure the sticker shock for this "budget" aquarium would put off many people new to the hobby.
Hey MD, have you experienced aquasoil “leaking” to the foreground with all (most) of your builds? I just scaped my first tank based on your clean “soil at the back capped with sand”, but constantly find bits of soil making its way to the front. From what I can see you do not cap it with a think layer (1cm tops???) but always get to maintain that clean foreground look. Please… give me that secret sauce!
Do you have corys or plecos? If so then that is probably why. In my big cory tank I've given up having nice plants and nice looking tank as they've mixed up substrate and dig up plants. Even deep rooted ones. Pepper loves to dig holes 😂
I'm not at all happy with my aquarium. I'm going to rip it all out and start over. Or maybe you MD could come to Missouri and set it up for me. 😁😅 Then I will maintain it. I wish. I will just try to copy you... thanks for the inspiration. (Gina from across the pond in the USA)
How are you defining "budget"? As others have pointed out, an indication of total cost would be helpful. Very nice set-up, but I would question the affordability for a lot of people despite the "budget" reference.
I got my Superfish tank from my local LFS but Maidenhead Thornbury has loads. Will eventually get another one and sell my main tank as rimless so much better for me ( main tank is rimmed and chonky) 😂 yeah same problem with Nutribase - MD buying it all out 😅
Not cheap, cheap but still very do-able. Just have to put aside a few extra pennies! And saying this I don't actually have any tanks because where I live, I'm not allowed. So I live vicariously through you.! One day my friend, one day and Your enablement will have created a monster. Mwa-Haha!
But a 'build' is not just a tank is it for £100? You've got a c02 tank worth £200 alone, probably £50 of soil and another £100 in rocks and wood? You should have talked about the costs in his shop so we can get an idea on how much a 'medium budget' build actually is?
@@Joelpalmer123 I'd say this whole set including everything is 400 to 500. I'd def class that as medium Budget when you think how much the high end stuff costs

would love to see some green tiger barbs on the channel, theyre my favorite 🙏🏻
Just a question about the wood used, how do you avoid mold on the bits sticking out of the water?
give it a little brush every once in a while. Alternatively attach moss and it will grow up out the water and onto the moss.
@@MDFishTanks thanks for the advice!
came out great . I need to invest in a Co2 system.
Another beautiful setup! MD, have you ever considered entering IAPLC? I'd love to see what you could put together for one of the big competitions.
its not for me really. First of all I think there skill level is a lot higher but also, takes all the fun out of creating aquariums for me personally.

medium budget. Talking like 500 qui all in
Where did the flamingo go?
The CO2 bubbles are going up to the top of the aquarium from the diffuser. Doesn't this limit CO2 efficiency throughout the tank?
Nice MD! only critique i have is most of ur co2 is escaping to the surface right next to the skimmer... the flow is not optimizing it.
Also the soil capped with sand or gravel. Put a few cories and it's all mixed in 3 mins. They're like a fish tank crackheads.
Can I do this without CO2?
Did you leave the fern in the little plastic pots
