And so the Ballroom Dancing Network was off, and all toons rejoiced...until 2009 that is.

***** Yeah, but Cartoon Network still lacks variety these days and I feel like the channel is too damaged now :(, there's just not enough cartoons on the channel. The Checkerboard, Powerhouse, and City eras literally had tons of cartoons on the channel all at once, countless amounts, Cartoon Cartoons, originals, action, anime, Hanna-Barbera/MGM, WB acquisitions, etc.

+mqgTWO96 It's been some time since you posted this but I think the point still stands. I think the honest question to ask, is how damaged is this audience right now? By that I mean how many of the kids/people that miss this, STILL want it back?
I don't ask that to lead either way, but while we know from sales at the moment, CN jumped the gun a little bit on the idea people didn't want to watch old-reruns. But a lot changed since then. CN has been doing it's mostly modern re-runs bit for a while. Other avenues such as dvds, digital downloads, and streaming services have cropped up to allow a lot (not all yet mind you) of these older shows that used to be dependent on CN/Boom to go right to the consumer. So I ask how many people are totally happy with this? And how many would actually prefer there be a CN like there used to be?
When you only have one option, a lot of people naturally gravitate to that one option. But if they have a choice you get to find out which one has more demand. If CN/Boom reorganized completely this year and showed plenty of re-runs of the shows they made themselves, shows they have access to from Turner and WB, and older/new acquisitions, how much of the current audience over 12, would willingly come back?
If the answer is a lot, then CN could totally revitalize itself again. However if the real answer is that enough people would say "ehhh i'm okay watching things better on my own time", then it could majorly hurt their channel to go back. But I don't really think enough people have been asked, which side they would pick, if they had a choice.
Personally I'm kind of mixed myself. This video was my first Cartoon Network. Nowadays I tend to watch Cartoon Network more for when there's something specific i want to watch. I tried earlier last year, to just sit and watch it like I used to as a little kid. But I kind of felt weird watching some Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry's that are sitting on my shelf on dvd. The newer shows they have are nice too, even if they aren't my favorites. IF CN turned back into this, I'd probably think about watching it like I used to, but at the same time I have to wonder if I'd also be happy just buying more content I want, than waiting for CN to maybe show it.
And I don't want to be a downer, but I have to wonder how many people my age would have the same reaction.

In addition to this, the other day I was looking at a post on the HB facebook page and saw there were several posts asking "why don't they show these much anymore" and then several posts telling them "just buy the dvds". And that reminded me of when I posted this not long ago.
I think it underscores my thoughts here, about the audience. It's clear lots of the older properties CN could air have audiences, just an odd matter of how much that audience wants a tv channel in their life nowadays.
