- Marek Piotrowski Vs. Tommy Richardson
KICK Kickboxing
July 5, 1990 | Las Vegas, USA
International rules contest for Piotrowski's KICK Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Championship.
🖱 🥊 good selection. 🌟 🥇 you found The Punisher Piotrowski. That's 😎. 👍
That was the knee that ko’d Richardson! So could that have been grounds for a No contest?
It certainly wasn’t deliberate!
Both also were professional boxers. You don’t see too many kickboxers in boxing these days. Way less pro fights available in North America these days for sure.
I'd like your opinion on something, please... Apparently Marek was in talks for a shot at the IBF Light Heavyweight title in 1997. The IBF belt changed hands three times that year, so it's not clear who he would've fought, but regardless - how do you think he would've fared at that level of competition? Let's presume he would've been healthy for such a match.
@@mouseboxersclassickickboxing I will do some research and get back to you. Luckily I still have a ton of KO magazines from the 90s:) This is a great question. I know he boxed out of Chicago, but will have to look at his competition. I think only 3 American kickboxers have won world titles in boxing, Troy Dorsey, James Warring and Chris Algieri.
Looking back at the three 1997 champs, I doubt he would have beat Virgil Hill, Dariusz Michalczewski or William Guthrie. He didn’t beat any contenders and those three had very strong professional backgrounds. Marek was an awesome full contact fighter and beat everyone from Don Wilson to Rick Roufus. I think all the ring wars played a part in his later health issues.
I tend to agree with you. Marek had a ton of potential, even if the mid-90s, but it would've been a major upset if he'd pulled off a world title victory. I would've liked to see him fight for a lesser championship first.
Not full contact... International rules (low kick).
You're right!
