    Growths above 100% always give one stat point with a % chance to get a second. For example a 105% growth is always 1 point, with a 5% chance to also gain a second point.

    You should really cover units as soon as they enter the field or you recruit them. For people who aren't familiar with them it gives them a quick rundown of what the unit can do, and as you're seeing now, if you lose them you're in a really awkward place at the start of next episode where you either don't cover dieck at all, or you cover a dead unit.

    • @kratosmvn_
      @kratosmvn_  Год назад +7

      The problem with that is jumping in and out of analysis kind of breaks up the gameplay a little too much. Maybe I can add every recruitable unit at the start of the chapter instead that could work better.

    "Goddamnit, Marcus, you're weak"
    Yeah, Marcus isn't going to be as valuable/useful here as in Fe6 with a lot of the units here becoming stronger.
    That said, if you want to use Marcus, down the line when he gets his personal weapon it'll essentially act as a statbooster item for him. On paper it's supposed to catch him up, but for the most part it doesn't really help; Alen, Lance, and Noah will all probably be far better than him at that point provided they didn't get themselves killed.

    So after your first video on project ember, i had decided to check it out, as fe6 is my favorite fire emblem game and yet i hadnt seen anything of project ember prior. Aince then i have done a full run on the game and have formed many thoughts on it.
    My conclusion is thus: project ember is a great fire emblem game in its own right, but is hardly similar to fe6 in the slightest, and comparing the two does a disservice to them both. This may seem strange to say, as project ember (which i will refer to as PE henceforth) uses fe6 as a base, and uses the same characters and maps. However, having played fe6 as much as i have, i know its gameplay by heart and feel that the enemy, weapons, units and overall strategy for PE is nothing similar to fe6, and had i known that going in as opposed to thinking it to just be "imporved fe6" i wouldve enjoyed the game tenfold.
    - Anything further in this comment may read as a gameplay spoiler, so read at your own discretion -
    First i would like to metion the visual style - i do think its a beautiful looking game, and in very specific cases, like cath or added characters like lowen, the viual changes are incredible - however, i prefer how fe6 looks, as i feel the majority of PE's art direcction is too dulled, looking like sacred stones does, which has my least favorites visuals in the series. Of course, this is just my opinion, but i do think the visuals wouldve been best with a balance struck like with fe7, as i prefer more vibrant and expressive colors but understand that fe6 lacks good shading, linework and has some oversaturation.
    Certain maps have all new paths and altered shapes that heavily improved the map design - however, they also added even more enemies to many maps, making some of them more of a slog than unusual. You will notice a ton more mages and flies snooping about in the early game, which is certaimly interesting and could lead to some cool strategy, but sometimes just leads to maps slowing down to a halt.
    Something that is likely meant to help with this is the increased accuarcy of weapons and the increased power of units which seems to make the game more enemy phase focused - however, the increased volume of enemies, enemy stats, and most importantly the increased risk of getting hit and taking massive damage due to the weapon changes just results in there being more rng you have to play against in order to play fast, and makes the game feel far less consistent.
    Mamy of the player unit changes are really cool and interesting, such as the addition of heavy cavaliers, however many of the changes are impossible to be able to tell without looking at a game spreadsheet or guide first - for example, lugh and lilina still start as the same class, yet they promote into two completely different things - lugh being a mage knight and lilina becoming a unique class the emulates both a sage and a lord. This is cool, but happens without warning, and theres no way to be able to tell prior to promotion, so if you wanted the mounted utility from mage knight on lilina, or expected lugh to be a sage but now he has a horse and is weak to the common halberds and horseslayers, you'd be screwed after using the promotion item. Other characters are strange as well, like all of the armor knights just having different random weapons on top of their lances, which is fine on its own but becomes confusing when you have all of them deployed yet cant tell them apart without looking at their weapon ranks, as their class name and map sprites display nothing that would tell you who has what.
    No character exemplifies this more than roy - and in fact, certain changes made to roy in this hack are actually the only thing i would say as objectively bad. For one, he has seven move, which is interesting, but very strange. Fe6 placed heavy priority on the player making smart and strategy use of the rescue mechanic as well as the new support mechanic that benefits roy and his partners more than any other characters to be able to carefully and safely weave your way to the ends of maps, whilst making sure roy still had combat utility with the accurate swords and triple effectiveness rapier as a weapon - meanwhile PE just turns roy into a really good combat unit that you better use or else. That is fine with me, as the goal was to rebalance the game and make it feel more akin to the ds titles which featured far more combat focused lords - but the true issue comes upon promotion, where he now just promotes into eliwoods lord class. Needless to say this comes out of nowhere, as there is nothing telling you roy gains a mount during promotion, but the worse part for me is that it completely forsakes roys identity as a lord in the series and just turns him into eliwood 2 electric boogaloo. While in concept, having your main lord turn into a mounted unit that now makes the most use of the rescue mechanics that the gba games love makes sense, in execution rescuing characters with roy is never useful, as he is an amazing combat unit and is now able to keep up with his best support partners movent, thus none of them need rescuing and nor does he.
    I want to mention is that bows are really overtuned in this hack. Dont get me wrong, i enjoy using them and playing against them when they are busted like this, it makes strategy so much more interesting when the enemies with bows have so much more range (less interesting in the players hands but still gun to use busted stuff). However, from the perspective of rebalancing, all that bow users needed in fe6 was a stat buff, as their ability to his wyvern knights and pegasi for effective damage is vital, and the bows themselves are quite accurate compared to the axes in the economy. In essence, the bow users became far too improved upon the addition of 2-3 range on all bows.
    The last thing i want to say is that because the rebalancing of the game makes most every character incredible in some way, it removes some of the allure of using certain characters, such as wendy and ogier/oujay. They seemed to leave sophia in a similar, though improved position as before, which i think was a great decision.
    In any case, all that I've mentioned (outside of roy) doesn't detract from the game at all from a fire emblem series fan perspective - but from the perspective of someone whos favorite game is fe6, comparing the two only does a disservice to the both of them. They should be judged individually, and their differences are too great.

      I haven't fully read your comment through as I don't want to spoil myself. But I do appreciate you putting this much thought into it! Once I'm done with the playthrough I'll come back to this and read all the way through!
      With that being said, while I agree it may feel like a whole new experience, I'm not far enough in the game to assert anything of the kind just yet, but I think comparison doesn't have to be negative. It can be done in a way that doesn't pit one as better than the other (ironic given the title of the video, I know). It can be done in a way to look at how changes (good or bad) were brought to the rom to make it its own thing. I think we all go through a certain level of comparing media to one another especially if it's in the same series. While we want something to stand on its own two feet I think it's simply normal to go: 'Oh FE8 gave you an alternate promotion option, but they removed it in FE9'. And it's normal that you'll prefer one approach over the other, but you can also take a more nuanced approach to comparing both systems and instead of going: 'this bad, this good' you can look at how both affect their respective games, and the pros/cons they bring without passing a judgment of one being superior to the other. Sorry for the long response, but in essence what I'm trying to say is that it's only natural to compare and contrast, but as you said maybe it does a disservice to the overall enjoyment of the product to lean too heavily on comparison.
      Anywho, I will heed your comment as a warning and try to somewhat detach my preconceived notions and approach with maybe less focus on comparing it in my head. I'll still do the unit analysis and try to highlight some changes cause I think that can be fun, but refrain from judging its quality purely based on FE6 as the blueprint of it.

    I never played Fire Emblem 6, only a few chapters probably 7 or 8 years ago. But I started a new run on Fire Emblem 7 when it came to the GBA Emulator for the Switch. It's outstanding how much more quality went into the writing in FE7. Why is the pacing so bad here? The players is just thrown into the situation, there is almost no time to calibrate to the war that's apperantly going on. Also, the characters feel very bland at this point. Yeah, FE7 handles that way more ellegantly in comparison to this game.

    • @kratosmvn_
      @kratosmvn_  Год назад

      I do agree that FE7 is the much better game, but to be very charitable to FE6 it probably had one of the roughest development cycle of all the series. It was the first game where the original creator wasn't involved in as he left during the development process and the game was initially supposed to be released on N64, but ended up being entirely scrapped and remade as Binding Blade. There's a lot of history surrounding this period of FE which is super interesting and kind of explains why this game doesn't feel as good as FE7 or FE8. But it did provide the base for a lot of what modern FE is though.
