Here's some help for beginners on how stop corkscrews in your yarn. If you're interested, join my Facebook group- Handspinning Yarn with a Spinning Wheel
Hi Cathy. Can I throw out a question please? I'm also just learning to spin and having thesame problem with to much twist. In addition I'm having trouble getting the yarn to travel up on the bobbin. Feels like that's why it just keeps spinning and spinning but never advances, and im not sure what side the hooks to use spinning clockwise also. Could you demonstrate up close like this video? Thanks. Signed frustrated but not defeated.
Great video idea, thanks for asking! short version-hooks don't matter, use whatever ones you want to, not going on the bobbin is most likely too low of tension-adjust it up slowly, too much twist is most likely you're feet are too fast-very common, happened to me a lot! keep trying, sometimes you just need a bit of a break then come back to it. also, start with an easy to use wool-BFL, Corriedale, Romney, Cheviot if you can.
Thanks I had the same question about the yarn not being pulled onto the bobbin...I'll try adjusting the tension. Perhaps I tied the drive band on too loose to start with... also does it.matter which band goes under in a double drive wheel?
THANK YOU! So it sounds like you're saying the "X" in the drive band occurs between the flyer and the wheel, and the string coming off the whorl goes UNDER the one coming off the bobbin, or does that not matter? @@Woolmaven-kh4pb
You can buy a Spinning Wheel from your local Spinning teacher or yarn store or any of the bigger wool suppliers, I like the Woolery. If you mean the wool, that's at wool suppliers as well as smaller shops like farm stores
I needed just this.. newbie spinner here. Thank you so much for a simple easily understandable video on how to get back on track 😊
Sure thing! Ask in my fb group handspinning yarn with a wheel if you have more questions or video suggestions

@johnnypgood100 about the drive band- it's more that the band should cross after flywheel on its way to bobbin
