The first time I built one using this video I tried it one lower than what's shown (so that it'd look a little less buoyant), and the water level just goes too close to the gun ports/port holes, so I started over and did it the way he (and you) are recommending.
Here is a tip to make the floating ship also look good when diving under it and look up: start with an upside down dark oak stair under the front most full dark oak planks block of the bottom layer (first block placed for the bow-steven) to extend the given stair-pattern there one layer downwards. place dark oak blocks in a line to the rear until there is stil one block space to the dark oak stair, that is places as the first piece of the stearing fin. Than place an upside down dark oak stair behind the last dark oak plank block of the just created keel. As the last step place 2 lines spruce upper planks, one along each side of the keel, covering every dark oak, that is not part of the keel, steven or stearing fin down there.

Your build is slightly different from a shipwreck I found. Mostly subtle changes. Such as at 18:25 where you use slabs on your build, there were full blocks on the model in-game.
I wanted to make a sunken ship for a shop in a realm I'm a part of and this worked great! I love the vanilla design but I have my own little throw at it with new wood combinations and I added a flag and sails so it wouldn't be as sunken, but still look nice.
I needed this tutorial because I built this big water dome in creative mode and wanted to put something inside and i was like "Yo how bout a sunken ship" and I wanted just a normal one not those fancy ones cuz the fancy ones DEF wouldnt fit in the dome. So I found your video and used this and made it from scratch tho i did alter some parts because my game was giving me issues but overall it looks really cool. The silhouette of my ship inside the dome looks awesome, especially with lots of fish, turtles and dolphins swimming about. Thanks a lot!

When you began with the captains hut, there was in my game, a wandering trader on the same spot😂 Anyways, thank you! My friend wanted this, and i think i made him happy 12:55
I built it so the holes are just above the waterline. realistically it should be 1 block higher so the waterlevel is 2 blocks under the holes in the side, but that makes the ship look too far up (there is almost nothing of the ship beneath the waterline unlike real vessels). You could also cover the holes and move the ship one block lower so the places where the holes would be are at the waterline, that way it looks like more of the ship is submerged and that looks a little better on such a small ship (which does not have canons anyway so the holes in the side are pointless). That size ship should only have 1-2 sails anyway.
What bothers me most about this shipwreck is that the captain's cabin is so full of major design flaws in Java. Even if you try to ignore the bugs, the floor is sill too low to make the cabin windows of any use.
@@Danny7 yeah, there most of the wreck is the same, except the captain's cabin, which looks unfinished, full of weird designs. For example, the slab on the table is on the floor.
The portholes are also a design flaw. Wooden pirate ships float with the hull half submerged in water. If you did this to the Minecraft ship the portholes would be on the very surface of the water
I placed it into water, but only the the bottom most layer is actually in the water to make it float. than i created an extra layer below to close the bottom of the hull and so i was able to dry the inside with sponges. Sometimes you replace a planks block with a stair, rotate a stair or extend a slab into a whoole planks-block afterwards. Why not place the right block-type there in the first attempt?
i have a 1.17 world and my fishing port was empty so i searched how to fix a shipwreck but nobody would, then i found this after 7 minutes of searching THX I subbed BTW (Sadly diamonds barely spawned before the newest update so i had to travel 700 blocks to find undiscovered chunks and went mining before i started this build)
Cool! I had some difficulties at 8:38.. this gonna be an ancor point to complete it. I am building it in survival like you, and I am putting in my vanilla so I can create a story about how all things born! Finally I am almost there 22:20.
After being forced to take shelter in One of these I grew Rather Attached to it. So Once I made it to The Base a Bunch of my friends made I wanted to commemorate the Occasion by honoring the Shipwreck

The Java version of this shipwreck comes with some major desing flaws, which only come to surface when this ship is brought to the surface.
