Well done Bob, nice to see some traditions still carried on. I'm old enough to remember some plowing going on (76), but more so seeing the Ragman's wagon, come by horse drawn, and the iceman when he delivered our ice for the icebox. I do not miss that beast, I was only 6-7 yrs old but had to empty the pan from under the icebox after it melted and drained out. and I don't think I ever made it to the door with out spilling some water on the floor. it was about 6inches deep, 2ftx4ft wide kinda heave for a young ladd like me. but we did what we had to do. thanks for the trip down memory lane!.
We are about the same age. The young will never know how it was back then. But then I suppose our parents said the same thing. The only difference is that technology is advancing so fast.

It's filling...warm...and tasty to them and prevents colic! wet...and warm...and never dry! feed when they are cooled down...watered and brushed....they will love you for it....its a great source of phosphorus which is needed in their diet!!!!!

Hello Farmer Bob :-) It's good to see the old world way of doing business in the new age of information we are so fortunate to be a part of. Thank you for your blessed inspiration. I too hear the banjos!! Eha!! Yahoo. My husband likes the music too. Love your three faithful friends and thank you for sharing.
I plow with 105 horses. :) Neat to see how it was done so not so long ago. Heard stories from the old farmers I knew but never seen it in person. Thanks for the fun video.
Hi Bob wonderfull video lovely horses. Would you happen to have plans ect on how to convert a tractor drag plow for horses like yours would appreciate any help and advice. Thanks George
+Lynda Laird Hi Lynda, Somehow I missed your comment about plans to convert a tractor plow to a horse plow. As far as I know there is no plans. I was lucky enough to copy off of someone who converted his plow. You need to remove the tongue off the plow and hook on with a Clevis where the tongue was. This might need to be raised or lowered Depending on the draft point. The draft point is determined by running a straight line from a point on the on plow share to the draft point on the horse collar. There are books out there as to how this formula works. The tongue for the horses needs to be fastened to the plow wherever it works the best.

A local riding stable recently got a Suffolk Punch, she's a nice mare. There is another farm not too far from here in NH that has more SPs, a rare breed.

+Angel Dear Angle, sounds like you are an angle. Thanks for all the compliments. There is something special about plowing with horses. You and your horses have to be very in tune with what you want. May I recommend that you search to see if you have draft horse club. You can learn a lot from them. I'm sure they would be glad to help you. Good luck.
I would like to apologize to you for my comments. You see my son loves this video and has some how figured out how to get to the comment section. He's 2 mind you but anyway again I'm sorry. You have a great day.
I miss those days with the horses, neighbor had two Belgian horses Pet & Bill , and then Ponch & Jerry I not sure of breed. Long time ago. Life on the farm is somewhat hard, but good peaceful.
I like your humor. My uncle used to use a team of 2 mules to plow, but, he used the human controlled plow with the strap over his shoulder. Both ways are way too hard for me. In my old broken condition, I would be worn out by the time I had the harnesses on the horses. Subbed and liked.
Liked the video ,, dont understand why it takes 3 horses to pull a 1 bottom plow..I followed behind my grandpa with 1 horse pulling a 1 bottom plow .both hands guiding the plow ,reins looped around his neck under his arms to guide the horse ....needless to say it was a while back ...thank you for sharing ...I'm sorry to see the one family farms going away ...
A lot depends on the type of soil you are plowing. Two horses could have pulled your grandpas plow a longer of time with out resting. The rule is 2 horses for a one bottom and 3 horse for a 2 bottom. The secret of good plowing is to have more horses than you need. I agree with you about the family farm.
You probably wouldn't know him. He is originally from Zanesville and grad highschool from medina. Our last name is Starkey. I had family that lived on Force Rd, Shreve side, last name Drown. they no longer live there though. My dad has lived in Ripley Twp. for about 5 years now.

Yes I agree the banjo music was nice but, having a farm background as I do and helping my grandpa with the horse chores I missed hearing the clump clump clump of their feet and their occasional snorts.
Hey Mr Bob, how do you like your New England D Ring Harness on ur perchs vs the standard western style harness like on ur Belgian/Morgan cross???? Just wondering if you could give me some opinions on the differences and likes/dislikes of each kind. Thx in advance and have a good day.
+. flyboyzach07 Hi Flyboy, I'm not an expert on harness but I will tell you what I think I know. The crossbred horse Yogi, harness is the same as the Percherons except the harness on the Percherons require a small neck yoke and Yogi's harness does not. The design on Yogi's will have a lot less back and forth sway of the tongue, which is a good thing. The English people prefer Yogi's design and the Amish people prefer the little neck yokes just because it looks less modern. I think the D Ring harness is designed so the girth takes all the back and forth movement of tongue and nothing on the collar. This works well if adjusted properly with is tricky to do. Hope this helps. Let me know if you receive this, my computer is acting up.

Farmer Bob thank you, but I don't think I have any harness shop in my area, I live in Washington DC, I trying to by this thing to send it, to my country I'm trying to rebuild my grandfather farm. He pass a way 9 years ago. And farm died too.

So, you're not going to wash them down and dry them and curry them? I was thinking it looked like two draft horses and a riding horse! I would have thought with three horses, it would be a two bottom plow! It's best not to work them too hard! They got the job done! It's sometime hard to believe that dad grew up plowing with horses, a one bottom walking plow!
I just love all horses, who doubts, i´m a farrier. But the crossbred "yogi" is one of the most beautyful guys I´ve ever seen! Good luck to you and your horses!

Happy now after a little work it appears as through lolll. I absolutely love draft type horses or working Horses if you will.
Of course I love them too. It gives you a feeling that you can’t get with a tractor.

Thank you, I’m having a little problem with the language.
Your horses are just beautiful! Love to watch them working in the field.
+fbh31118 Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Wisdom from my dear old Dad: never put away a sweating horse and for sure don’t give them water.
I’ve heard the same thing. By watering a horse before he has cooled down, I’ve heard you run the risk of him foundering. Thanks for commenting.
Nice video ! Thank you )))
Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

+julio tsuquiashi Thank you for the comment.
The more horses, the more fun to plow. The one horse is Belgium Morgan cross bred. Thanks for the comment.
