Yes, when discussing Spain (even portgual) and France, people never talk about the celtic influence, popular culture just doesnt deem it "sexy" enough, thats the only real reason i can think. But we ignore a major influence on the Latin world.

@@bellagood1873 But if they gained Spanish citizenship then surely that would make them a Spaniard. Yes? Bear in mind that you can't simply set aside a person's entire family history because they were born in a different country. This person states that they are Mexican but, ethnically, they are at least half-Spanish/ Asturian on their father's side. Good for them. Lots of Asturians emigrated to the U.S. and Mexico. They have as much right as all the other European descendants to proclaim their heritage.
Spartan_007 In your case you are. A Chinese person born in Africa doesn’t make him black. What I’m saying is that blood is more important than place of birth or citizenship. I actually know Cubans who aren’t mixed with black or native and I consider them just as Asturian as the ones living here ethnically speaking. In the case of Mexicans, most of them are mixed race and therefore not white let alone Asturian. And those white Mexicans are clearly descended from recent immigrants from Spain, if they aren’t mixed with Indian or black then yes they are completely Asturian. But you cannot look at a modern day Mexican and say he is spanish. They are mixed and therefore not Spanish nor Indian
TheLegendaryMVG imagine thinking a piece of paper will magically change your race or ethnicity. A black person with spanish citizenship doesn’t make him ethnically spanish. It just makes him a black person with spanish citizenship and that’s it. Also just because you are half something doesn’t mean you have a full claim to a half of your choosing, that’s not how nature or biology works.

Thank you for posting. It brought back great memories for I lived in Spain for nearly three years, including one semester in Vigo, not too far from Lugo, where my grandfather was born.
I am American by nationality, but my father who was from Southwest Germany, was also part-Spanish through his maternal side. What I know, is that our Spanish family came from the northern part of Castilla y Leon to Wurttemberg in the mid or late 1800s, at the time when many people were leaving Spain (but most going to America Latina). They Germanized their surname, but from what I've been able to trace it was Vasquez and seems to indicate some strong connection to the Celtic regions of Northern Spain. This along with a picture I have of my great-great-grandmother in a traditional dress and headdress and how the Celtiberians just resonate with me, through my blood. Not just Galitza, Asturias or Cantabria but also our Castilla y Leon is very much Celtic although the deeper south you go there has been more Romanization. Through my Germanic side, I am of the Suebi - one section of our tribe went to modern Gallitza and Northern Portugal, so combined with the ancient Celtic history of Swabia and Bavaria, the exchange comes full circle with this land. I have been to Spain, specifically Madrid, Salamanca, Segovia and Alcala. But outside of Castilla, I most want to see Gallitza, Asturias y Cantabria. Remarkable examples of territories which have preserved not only their Celtic heritage, but our common Celtiberian heritage.
Vázquez is a Galician surname, my father was Vázquez by mother line. The curious thing is that Vázquez means "son of basque". Acording with that your ancestors were also celtic-basque-suevi.

I thought the spanish who came to puerto rico (caribbean) mainly came from the canary islands. I also got basque in my results.
