I love this sport!!! My dog Kukri titled to Open level in only three months (Jan 2020) but sadly the dumpster fire of 2020 stopped all trials. This weekend May 2021 is our first trial back... I am so excited, we have practiced for three weekends straight! Any dog can do this, even if at first the dog isn't excited. Sometimes the excitement comes after training and the idea clicks! Once the dog understands what he/she is doing, they usually get really excited. This sport is very positive, you will meet a lot of wonderful people, and you get ribbons that will make you swell with pride!
I just registered my Russell terrier for her first barn hunt next month..this is so great ..she always finds moles and rats on my property, this is so her thing, I'm looking forward to the fun this will be for both of us!!!
I have a miniature jack russell and he can't jump that high. But he defiantly loves to hunt. I have to drag him from under my house all the time. We are moving to Tallahassee in a month and I see there is one there. How much does this normally cost?
Oh great question. I would say most dog training classes are about $100 a month/$25 per week on average. Then privates range a lot on trainer experience but about $100-$150 per hour. Classes are great for foundations but when you start trialing the privates are good to get specific behaviors cleaned up
Sup Candice I got a female 14 month Corso and we caught our first rat at home! Lol she loved it and that’s what got me here I live in so cal and seen there’s events in Jamul, let me know it goes I want to get me girl into it, now that see she had fun.
@@roxy_italian_mastiff560 hey there!! My girl absolutely LOVES Barn Hunt! There aren't many CCs that do it but when they do, they do well! She needs one more leg to her Open title then we are off to Senior. Go for it! It's so much fun to see their prey drive turn on!
@@candacehood9864 this is good tho know I they don’t get get big and wasn’t sure their size was going to be an issue but seems like your doing well, are you going to compete in the SoCal events this year
@@thedoggiedojo He did pretty good! It was a Line Drive class and his first run he found 2 of 4 and 3 of 4 the second run through. He was SUPER interested in the rat in the cage when introduced to it so, I'm counting our first class as a win!!!
Had a Lab you couldn’t say the word rat in front of, she learned how it was spelled. She was actually doing her job keeping the vermin out of the hay shed.
I have to admit: I think not letting the dog get the rat is hilariously dumb, but I have 0 respect for rats, too. It seems like a weird little sport so why not

Did you do any kind of training before you went to your first hunt?
I ENJOYED THIS VIDEO AND LOVE THE WAY IT'S EDITED!
YES! Thank you so much!
We are going to our first Barn Hunt class this weekend! Super excited!
So exciting! Let me know how it goes. So much fun. Wish we had a class in our area.

It's totally an interesting activity to do with your dog.
