  • From the factory, these dining table is glued using a UV cured epoxy. Problem is UV glue is hard to find. As such, I used acetone (nail polish remover) to remove existing glue, then use JB Weld to glue. It has been two years and going strong.
    2021 Update: thx for serval commenters below to point out I should have used the clear UV Glue since JB Weld is ugly. Since then, UV glue is now easy to find, on Amazon , eBay or Aliexpress. Please see the video link at the beginning of my video to see h ow to use it.

    Samir, I just Acetone to remove the old glue. Nail polish remover would be the same. I pour some on the old glue, cover with a small piece of title paper to help it soaking. In about 2 minutes, while the acetone is still wet, I used a blade to scrape off old glue. It took me three time repeating this process to clean it up. All done in 10 minutes. Hope this answers your question.

    Hot air gun to remove metal part from glass. Then soak it in acetone and later brush it with steel wool. Then best is to clean it with bohle's metal primer for uv gluing. Then 3-4 drops of UV adhesive glue + uv lamp for 2 minutes to cure

      I know you replied to this video a month ago, but I have a question. My entire office is gold and white, the desk that I like is glass and white painted wood, but the metal is silver. I planned to paint the metal legs gold, but the part of the desk that swivels is a metal piece attached to the glass, could I essentially remove the metal piece with a hot gun like you stated, then paint it and brush it and replace it as normal? Will it hold well?

    Crystal clear is uv resistant epoxy resin , it's available to by all over internet, use the one that they use in the making of river tables . Perfectly clear just like glass , I think gorilla makes an epoxy glue aswell just not sure how clear it is, super glue won't work, it will crack and turn yellow in no time . You can also use it to create a film over badly scratched glass tables, but it won't work if you skip the prep .

      I did not use a jack to hold, the table was standing okay with the 3-legs. Your repair may require one, mind you. If I need to hold the table, I will use a piece of wood (or books piled up on one of the dining chair).

    • @rkhoo7349
      @rkhoo7349  Месяц назад

      However you want to do it, my friend, safety first.
      I'm sorry to hear that your table has three legs came off. I would not use those broken leg as prop to keep it stand up, that sounds dangerous. Instead I will find a box or container that is strong enough to keep the table up, while you do the repair. The hot pot is to find the perfect height. I will try to find a box that is slightly shorter and use books to shame to the perfect height, just a touch shirt so the table top could press against the legs to be glued.
      Again please be safe.

      Of all the glues and adhesives on the market you choose grey jb weld, its not great for glass and more so it looks awful. You'd have been better off with a clear aquarium silicone or even crazy glue. Clear epoxy would have work well to, a bit of heat will remove any air bubbles. This isn't a process you should be recommending as I doubt it will last long and redoing it will be a real pain in the butt!

      If you have the same table in this video, then the legs can be detached by twisting it to unscrew it. Think if the leg is a huge screw :) remember the first join us between leg and the swing-arm, then the aluminum disc which glued to the glass. Good luck.

      @@hannahroberts4261 I do know how to safely remove the silver-disc (aluminum mount) because it is glued to the glass. The factory glue is a UV-cured resin that I do not know if heat can soften the glue. From my experience in this repair video, my disc is already loose and I was able to use Acetone (nail polish remover) to remove the glue residue. I do not think you can use this solvent to unmount the disc from the glass. Sorry.
