  • Joaquin Phoenix's abrupt exit from Todd Haynes' latest film is causing a huge amount of outrage among Hollywood producers. The Oscar winner departed Todd Haynes' drama just five days before production began. The untitled film, also starring 'Captain America: Brave New World's' Danny Ramirez, was said to focus on an intense gay romance in the 1930s. According to multiple sources, Phoenix got cold feet in the lead-up to the production - though the reasons remain unclear - and is said to be particularly surprising, given that Phoenix first brought the project to Haynes and his longtime producers at Killer Films.

Someone put this perfectly, so I'll reiterate.
If they went ahead and did this movie anyway, people would like at Jaoquin differently. He had this idea, he pitched it, and THEN he's getting cold feet?
Maybe the producers wanted him to make this an X rated movie?

I'm glad he decided to stay true to himself and not bend to the will. The cold feet was him realizing he never wanted to do it in the first place, but he did it to get more roles. We all know you get more work in 2024 Hollywood if you do gay stuff. But he has an Oscar, and he realized that. So he backed out.

Oh my gee, someone, at the last moment, decided it's not for them, big whoop. The media, more the entertainment industry REALLY make you feel like your position is as important as a surgeons and if you don' show up, talk back, or they just don't like you, you get fired. They mad that actors are doing whay they do to them? Cutting them at the last minute? Let's go focus and worry on other problems folks.

happens. you can always do what you want, if, you're willing to pay the price. when it comes down to it, the movie business is a business, and dropping out this late costs people money. id be upset with him as well. Joaquin isnt some scrub trying to keep his spot or break in, so this will all blow over. he still makes money, as long as you can do that, this will be forgotten.

So we’re supposed to believe that Joaquin Phoenix - who has been a professional actor since he was a kid and has played a myriad of roles where he literally transforms his body to fit the part (think the weight he lost to play the Joker) - got cold feet about playing a part that he wrote AND brought to the producer???
If the producers wanted to make Phoenix seem impossible to work with, they should’ve done better than this obvious hit piece by the Hollywood Reporter. (Paraphrasing) “Don’t be like Joaquin Phoenix, kids, or else you too could face legal action and blackballing! 🫣”
    FOH.
