- Joaquin Phoenix's abrupt exit from Todd Haynes' latest film is causing a huge amount of outrage among Hollywood producers. The Oscar winner departed Todd Haynes' drama just five days before production began. The untitled film, also starring 'Captain America: Brave New World's' Danny Ramirez, was said to focus on an intense gay romance in the 1930s. According to multiple sources, Phoenix got cold feet in the lead-up to the production - though the reasons remain unclear - and is said to be particularly surprising, given that Phoenix first brought the project to Haynes and his longtime producers at Killer Films.

People in this industry will be furious with him and he wont be cast in movies for a long time.....then Joker 2 will come out and make a billion dollars and everyone will forget about this because money is the only thing this industry truly cares about now.
Exactly
Perfectly worded, I would just delete the “now” at the end.
@@johnnykidblue No, lil bro. Filmmakers used to run the industry before you were born. Today it's businessmen who run it.
@@comebackguy8892 and businessmen care about what? 💰💰 🤑 💸
Phoenix is at Brando level now. He will still be able to pick and choose any role he wants.
If we don't know the reason for Joaquin's departure, then we're not in a position to judge the morality or ethics of the decision. I will reserve judgement until I know the reasons and they are shown to be worthy of respect or scorn.
Ah NO. He left a few days before filming and left a lot of industry workers out of work. It is unconscionable given he is rich and can afford to leave but not the script writers, make up artists, etc.
What the other guy said, it wouldn’t be bad if he didn’t already have so many people attached and ready to start working. People’s careers are riding on stuff like this, and they’re the ones who will suffer the consequences of such an action, not an A list star.
Nobody cares
I doubt their career is in jeopardy, they can get another actor , they cab get other jobs if this project doesn't move forward or stalls, it's part of this business, things don't always go according to plan

I love the idea of filmmakers being upset over cancelling a film literally no one asked for.
They're upset because it costs time and money to prepare and cast for a film.
That's not how film making works.

Probably why he bailed out.
He wrote the movie and wanted to star in it. It was his idea and he backs out days before. Hollywood producers are outraged at Phoenix? Well, he must have done something morally right.
That's not our problem. Phoenix will surely communicate his reasons at a later point. Perhaps certain changes were pushed and triggered his exit. Even film makers aren't in control of everything.
Pervywood is upset. Again.
"Say a word out of line and find that the friends you had are gone forever, for-ever". Say Goodbye to Hollywood, Billy Joel
So unprofessional. You know how many people lost their jobs? And for the people saying recast him, it's not that simple. That would take weeks to months, the other actors work on schedule and might have other projects lined up meaning this is the time thay cleard for the production of this movie. Why do people act like you can just start a project this size at any moment?
recasting is literally not possible, apparently funding was basically solely reliant on phoenix as the lead

Maybe he’s just one of the only stars in Hollywood that recognize the 100% failure rate of activism films.
What is the problem here? Its most likely the direction of the film is taking a turn from his original idea and possibly enough disagreement for him to exit this project. Calling someone homophobic for leaving a film he was integral in pushing for initially does not make you a bad person. The producers are disgusting.
Brokeback Mountain 2....it's the movie nobody asked for
Overrated actors can get away with pretty much anything.
He also caused an outrage with "I'm still here". There were also people who claimed "Joker " will be a disaster and it ended up making a billion. Phoenix proved multiple times his charisma and acting brilliance can save any project. If that isn't enough to cut him some slack I don't know what more it takes. He's a man, not a machine. Man tries to take his life back and just chill and it sparks an outrage? Sounds hella sus on hollywoods end
And here I am just hoping it doesn't get made regardless of the reason.
Something tells me that he’ll probably be blacklisted for this.

Something tells me he won't entirely mind if that happened.
I can guarantee that won't happen
That’s silly if he is blacklisted. He should do what Bruce Willis did. instead of being sued, just sign on 3 films under the studio and everyone is happy. Bruce Willis did it and one of the films he was forced to make was the sixth sense so it all worked out.

Joker 2 will come out and they will all think twice about banning him
I'm glad he decided to stay true to himself and not bend to the will. The cold feet was him realizing he never wanted to do it in the first place, but he did it to get more roles. We all know you get more work in 2024 Hollywood if you do gay stuff. But he has an Oscar, and he realized that. So he backed out.

The reason. Duh. Stop thrusting disgusting moral behavior down people throat. Excellent back out Phoenix. Stand for something or fall for anything. Hollywood is disgusting.

Joaquin is an interesting guy, he is very different.
Maybe he has morals and Hollywood doesn't like that.
He pitched the movie, worked on the script, and was days away from shooting it. I don't think you understand anything about what's going on here.

Maybe Pedro Pascal can replace him
The reasons remain unclear? Wake up, nerds.

So we’re supposed to believe that Joaquin Phoenix - who has been a professional actor since he was a kid and has played a myriad of roles where he literally transforms his body to fit the part (think the weight he lost to play the Joker) - got cold feet about playing a part that he wrote AND brought to the producer???
If the producers wanted to make Phoenix seem impossible to work with, they should’ve done better than this obvious hit piece by the Hollywood Reporter. (Paraphrasing) “Don’t be like Joaquin Phoenix, kids, or else you too could face legal action and blackballing! 🫣”
