Very good and I admire Vecsey a great deal but Heifetz is supreme in this piece - so much that I consider the Heifetz performance the finest violin playing of all time. The variety of tone colour, the second entry - from nowhere is magical and the presto section near the end adds the necessary touch of virtuosity to put this to bed. Grumiaux is good too as we expect, though he does use too much vibrato to make this ethereal.
This is the best performance of this piece in absolute! Compare the Grumiaux, the Heifetz, and even the Oistrakh, and you will note the difference of sound and introspection.
Hi Daniel, just my thought: Vescey was only 8 days older than Mozart when he died. He should have been still in his prime at the time of this recording. I think his slow, unexciting vibrato was rather a result of his close connection with Joachim who advised him to avoid it altogether. It was not caused by age. This vibrato type belongs to the Hubay school.

Beautiful.

such amazing control of sound color and vibrato....i wonder how this would sound in his prime!

By the way Guido Agosti was a master of piano! Note also the wrong title of the record: "Notturno op.81".No, it is op.51
Never saw any records with this label, sounds nice anyway. But I can surely say that Vecsey's techniques are just faded away.
