Walking Los Angeles : Downtown El Segundo

- I walk through Downtown El Segundo in Los Angeles. The city in Spanish means "The Second". It is located just below Los Angeles International Airport. I focus on Main Street which has several restaurants, businesses, and commercial activity. I then walk through a small section of the residential area, which has really nice homes.

When I heard the name El Segundo I thought about Sanford and Son. The character Fred Sanford used to tell his son Lamont that they were going to send him to El Segundo.
Maybe the oil fields? Such a great show. My Grandpa used to watch that show with me!
@@jaminova_1969 I looked it up and it said it may have been referencing a sewage plant that was there years ago.
@@Cmickey46 Even worse! That Fred!
@@jaminova_1969 Dummy! 🤨
I read the title and immediately came to mind the song from A Tribe Called Quest: 'I Left My Wallet In El Segundo'.
Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.......thanks for sharing my friend!!!!
Anyone 50 and older will remember the old Andy Griffith show called The Andy Griffith Show. It takes place in fictional Mayberry. One of El Segundo’s nicknames is Mayberry because of its quaintness and same town atmosphere.
Well, Gosh! I did not know that!
Barney Fife 😁
My son used to live in New York and relocated to California in July 2019. Los Angeles is his nearest city and I cannot believe the difference here. No high rise buildings,no crowds, no tourists and a totally different atmosphere. Takes some getting used to!!!
There is tourists but in Beverly hills
Hollywood is packed with tourists; and natives stay away from that craziness.
Los Angeles had over 50 Million tourists in 2019...that's a lot of tourists! No high rise buildings? Downtown Los Angeles has a lot of sky scrapers. No crowds...in a non-COVID recovery period the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and other districts are full of people. Common now...
My late grandfatherer used to own a liquor store there and was a retired firefighter.
That's cool
That's nice. It seems like a really nice neighborhood!
Was it the Village Liquor on Center Street?
Wow, those houses looks so beautiful but expensive . That city looks nice and clean.
I really enjoyed it!
I love El Segundo!!! My client had physical therapy the beginning of this year, across the street from the city hall where you started your walk and when she was doing her thing I sat in my car or took in the sights of the city. It's a really cute little city!!! Enjoy!!
Que ciudad más tranquila ,se la ve segura y limpia.Gracias por caminarla y recorrerla.Saludos
Canton Low, great Chinese food. Eat there often.
Canton Low has been there since the 60s. It's one of the few remaining businesses left from that time.
El Segundo has Candy Cane Lane during the winter Holiday and there are some fantastic lighting displays! Good Fun for the family! I've visited all of these places and I'm learning more about them from watching Action Kid on his Westcoast Walkabout! We ate at La Paz and I highly recommend it for good food and service!
That sounds super fun to see
@@ActionKid It was ! Xmas in CA is different in the sense that it might get cold, but there are palm trees everywhere! We do get snow in the mountains 2 hrs east! Arrowhead and Big Bear are local ski resorts!
I've never been to El Segundo...it's really a beautiful town! Thanks for the tour of El Segundo...I'll have to come down and take a look around in person!! Great video, ActionKid!!
You should give it a look!
@@ActionKid It is definitely on my immdiate agenda! :)
Many years ago, I left my wallet there.
Nice ATCQ reference
This is so great. I have a trip planned to LA soon. A mini vaca. Thank you for streaming!!
That Prius just blew the Red! Get his plate ! @ 8:02 At 19:55 the house looks like it was built in the 1920's with Spanish tile on the roof. Most likely concrete, not Adobe. Also, the Bamboo stalks and Eucalyptus trees are not native, but were imported!
El Segundo is next to Manhattan Beach, but house prices are quite a bit lower (still expensive tho).
Wow! This city looks so green, clean, kinda tranquil!! Cool!!!
Very nice, relaxing walk. Some nice residential streets there but as you said it's close the airport.
If you plan to keep walking in front of places I lived (Lower Manhattan, Brickell, Fl) You need to walk to Wilshire Blvd and Berverly Glenn. (It's a good walk anyway -- you can start near Rodeo Drive and continue to Westwood / UCLA area)
Very good!
A lot of big companies have their headquarters in El Segundo. Mattel. Boeing. Hughes Aircraft Company. Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles Lakers Training Center to name a few.
Nicely done, looks like a nice place, less hectic than most areas in LA.
Great video. If you do visit Venice, I suggest also going to Marina Del Rey right next door. Most people miss it and it's completely different from Venice. There's a $1 Waterbus (ferry) that runs on Friday/Saturday 12-8PM that goes through the Marina.
I totally agree. Venice has become run down and tacky, MDR still has its charm, those little canals and the yacht harbor.
@@spoly8139 definitely. I was lucky to live there for 2 years in the early 2000s. Such a contrast from Venice.
@@spoly8139 Not to nit pik…but the canals are a historic area in the city of Venice. I grew up a few blocks from those wonderful waterways. ☺️
El Segundo is very unique. Glad to walk through with you here, we’ve only driven by, but now want to visit!
Ok AK. The natives pronounce it as “El-Sa-Gun-Doe.” But hey…you’re fine. And as many times as I’ve driven from Santa Monica to Culver City, I’ve only passed through El Segundo. So nice to tour this quaint little city with you ☺️
Good to know about the pronunciation! I enjoyed walking through it and so many cool places there!
@@ActionKid When we moved from NY to CA 30 years ago, I used to say La Joe-La like Bugs Bunny!
@Sandro Jean Louis I’m actually aware of that. But I’m a 65 year old native of LA - and I’ve always heard it pronounced in the manner I described. Cheers!
El segundo is a very underrated area. Love it there.
Thanks bro ✨
Love Los Angeles USA big thumbs up friend for sharing love from Sihanoukville 💕💗🌏
Very nice to see Rinaldi's, probably my favorite sandwich place in all of Los Angeles!
Canton Low is fantastic, too, if you like Chinese food.
And La Paz has good, homemade Mexican cuisine!
@@jaminova_1969 Yep. Was there last week. Been eating at La Paz for decades. Good food and really nice owners. Family business.
@@kingz9916 I will have to try Canton Lo next time we are in town!
AK, it would be good to label your start point when you put up the travel map at the start of the video. Some of us follow with google maps on another tab while you narrate the walk. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work in LA. Thanks.
That looks a really nice place AK! Any chance of you walking Sunset Blvd at night?
Great video, AK! Just don't leave your wallet there, LOL!
Hi ActionKid I hope you and Jaycation do a calab in San Diego
Average home price is $2.3m in Downtown El Segundo. The ones you're passing by are at least $2.8m.
18:07 I would be very very shocked if those houses cost only $900,000 lol those were easily in the millions.
Yes el segundo average home price is 1.5 million
You are correct. Since the city is considered a beach city, being so close to the ocean, the houses definitely are more expensive.
Is your ancestor Rand McNally
When will you come to Dallas?
Hey, AK! How you doin '?
AK, how is LA compared to NYC?
L.A’s fine the sunshine’s all the time and the feeling is aid back.....
Sorry I couldn’t resist...
@@alantaylor2117 🤣😂😅
@@alantaylor2117 I have a feeling that AK will be singing “I Love LA” as he wraps up his tour of this great city. ☺️
@@alantaylor2117 Yeah, laid back until you have to get to work! Then it's Death Race 2000!
Seemed like a heck of alot of asian restaurants on that street .... How do they make enough business right next to each other ???
Try not to leave your wallet there
I think AK might be too young to get that reference, haha!
People doing the 'California roll' make it hard to cross an intersection.
Fixed my buffering problems by switching to Chrome (at least for now)
Lakers, have their practice facilities there.
I hope you didn’t leave your wallet in El Segundo.
I left my wallet there once
I like NYC way better, but thanks for the tour of LA. Not your fault, that is just the way Sur Cal is.
Well cause Los Angeles isn’t very walkable since it’s very spread out but action kid still manages to show the cool spots
No homeless so far?
Yes, there were lots of homeless people on his latest livestream
You won’t see any homeless camping in this city. The police and city leaders pretty much don’t allow it.
@@kingz9916 I want to live in a city where the community frowns on graffiti and trashing the neighborhood!
@@jaminova_1969 You will see no graffiti in El Segundo. Gang members do not reside in this city. The police actually are allowed to do their job, and 99 percent of the El Segundo residents back the police and so do the local politicians.
@It's 1984: The Fact Checkers are here! That’s a tough question. In the area where the Action Kid did his walking tour, I would say crime is very low. There are areas of El Segundo which are not near the area that was toured that has crime. For instance, near LAX there is more than likely some crime issues. Running along the city of El Segundo is Imperial Highway. I would guess there is some crime there, too, but over all El Segundo is a very safe city.
the city seems boring and nothing special I thought LA was suppose to be great lol
