  • Just bought this customer return from a vendor. Supply functioned but voltage display always read 0000. This might be a common problem as I saw the same issue in another video. Simple fix.

It happened again! I knew it was related to that connector on the board. This time I pried up the plastic of the white plastic of the connector just enough so the pins didn't totally come out of the plastic. Aligning these if they come out is a real pain if not impossible. There it was a solder overflow from SIG to GND. Took a sharp awl and removed it and pressed the shell back. Finding the two little screws that fell on the floor took the most time.

I have this same power supply model and I loved it and used it every day , it changed my whole work flow for mouths ( in a great way ) but Christmas eve night , I was troubleshooting my 2008 imac as it was not turning on . So I decided to try it with my power supply . I set it to 12v 3A as before then I would run that imac with a pc power supply and it worked great before but it was shutting off when I was trying to turn it on that night . I got the imac from a friend as a power outage brow the imac,s power supply ( so I used a pc one ) . but when I use you dsp6005u power supply and pushed the power button on the imac the fuse on the power supply blow instantly . ( no burns or sparks ) sense then I have changed the fuse but it keeps blowing . I have concluded its the AC side mosfets or a round there but replacing them doesn't bring it back to life .... I'm such as what to do and I really loved that thing ( am back to using a 12v 3a charger for my projects and my laptop for my smaller projects ) .... it was a great tool but I don't know how it could have failed so like that.

A method I have used since 1963 is to place a lamp in series with the AC line input. A 40W or even lower incandescent will do. This limits current to a level safe enough to diagnose issues while still powered. Have you checked the input diodes for short in the voltage doubler? Check resistance of FET from gate to source. Not only is this an easy way to determine FET short, but it will indicate driver problems too. Resistance should be identical for both gates. Let me know what you find.

@@opera5714 thank you for your advise .... all my troubleshooting after replacing the fuse 3 times were done with a 425wa pc ups , as i didn't want to trip a breaker ( this was my way of safely testing , because i didn't know what had was the problem ) ... . . i did have to replace the full brigh rectifier as i was shorted .... . i also removed both FETs and the fount display did display did come on and read voltages i placed external on the output but that soon stopped after i put one working FETs on the AC high side ... but now with or with out the FETs the display doesn't come on

@@opera5714 after placing the FBR and FETs it came one but didn't output any volts and as you raised the volts nomb from 0 to 8 ( around there ) it drowed more power ( from the AC ) but not volts on the output , before soon triping the UPS at a round 30w

@@opera5714 i have been trying at it for a while and i disconnected the high power side from the ac in and only ran the display side .... i finally got it to come on but its fairly dim and when placing a 3.7v li-ion battery on its out put displays 6.8v and after 3-8 sec the display dims more before showing all the leds on as when it first boots but its just stays there dim with all leds on .... according to my ups its drowing less then 1w ( shows 0w )
