Airi was so shy and had a really hard time in SG at first. But it was also a protected place where she could develop and get over her shyness.

As Airi said in her comments in the Sakura Gakuin 10th Anniversary book:
Q: Among the things you've learned during your time at Sakura Gakuin, what is a thing you think you're putting to good use now?
A: Everything! If it weren't for Sakura, I can say with confidence that I wouldn't be where I am today.
Airi is one of my favorite Sakura Gakuin girls from the early years. Her height made her quite imposing, but she had a sweet vulnerability about her that was ever so charming. She was always uncomfortable singing and dancing because she lacked confidence doing it. Airi's strengths were as an actress and model, at which both she has thrived.
Really interesting how they would go into a lot of these things without a script - I'm guessing they really want the girls to learn a lot from experience (and on their own) as well as being able to improvise (on the spot).
And yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised that Airi became an actor ^^ I wouldn't have guessed
I love that Moa always looks like she is having the best time and how she is constantly laughing (when she wasn't crying). Her sense of humour is great.
The end of the video was pretty good as well lots of behind the scenes stuff, I hope you watched that too. It was pretty rough putting Airi with those three, I guess they wanted to give her a challenge lol, I love how after having a little fun Moa took charge and bailed her out
Yeah, i watched the behind the scenes stuff too, but the clips were without subtitles and i thoughts thats maybe a bit boring for the viewer

the point here as you might already noticed, Airi is struggling with their line parts, you'll see more of this during SUN episodes, but if everyone said most things on this show are actually "scripted", then who knows if this "struggle" is actually real and not scripted, although we do know for some interviews she was really shy and having a hard time dancing and singing, anyway Airi and Ayaka got some controversial issues when remembered SG past, but in the end they become beautiful and talented superladies and that's all that matters for me. ❤️
Another thing i can notice here is probably gap generation between them, that would be the reason Airi didn't really care what the girls are saying, Hinata-chan wants to kill her after finishing nonetheless lul

I think the enka singer was more accurated with Ayami-chan instead of Raura, nowadays she got some covers in her channel if i'm not mistaken and she posted in her social account some pics of her participating at Enka meetings or something.
If you watch the video again, Airi was distracted by Moa while Hinata and Su were discussing karaoke, and she got snap out of it when she said "Who? Who? Who?" lol

Looking back at this, when Su talks about Airi singing Karaoke with her, when Su mentions Airi quits in the middle of songs and makes Su sing by herself I think to myself ‘How awesome would it be to sing with Su, and Airi just tosses it away.’
You have merely scratched the surface when it comes to Ayami’s body of work available on RUclips, whether it be with SG or solo. Prepare yourself. 😄

Matsui Airi is from Fukushima prefecture in the Tohoku(North East) region of Japan (which unfortunately became famous due to the nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011). From a Japanese point of view, she looks like a typical, simple, beautiful girl from the Tohoku region. She seemed to have never been in the entertainment business before joining Sakura Gakuin (just before SG, she did a bit modeling), so she can not act well in front of the TV cameras like the other members, but that is her charm. Her generosity, as shown in the video, seemed to have eased some nervousness in some scenes at Sakura Gakuin. I remember reading something about how many of the members liked such her. However, it seems that she also had a strong will.
Are you sure she wasn't in the entertainment business? Then I wonder how did Amuse choose her? Didn't they choose the top performing girls in their "Youth division"?
@@BlackArr0w According to Wikipedia the Japanese Edition, before joining Sakura Gakuin in April 2010, she debuted in 2009 as an exclusive model for the magazine "Nicola". Moreover, she applied for the job not because she wanted to, but because her father promised to buy her a smartphone if she passed the audition. Well, this is from Wikipedia, but it seems to be true.
In this clip as well, at first Su-, Hinata, and Moa appear, acting like to enter a Izakaya pub as joking, intentionally annoying and teasing Airi who is poor for MC. Especially Hinata, she talks too fast, haha.

In terms of professionalism, and being stiff. She is the worst member. I wonder how she is made not shy. I guess, she is selected for her height and amazing smile. She appears in numerous commercial as a teen(afterSG)( eg Chocalates, drinking water, etc )starred in a drama and was a weather girl for awhile.
She often credited the training in SG made who she is today. So kudos to her for refining herself to be a Superlady.

Airi is not professional is understatement, she's the worst member ever, why they bother putting her to do idol is a puzzle, it's not her call at all.

@@jeans4484 Airi became much more comfortable in front of the camera with both scripted scenes and unrehearsed talking.
That was a huge factor in her current success, which she has acknowledged. You wouldn't get that experience from modeling assignments.
Sakura Gakuin wasn't started to create Idols. The Idol framework allowed the members to try different things, and to discover what they're good at and want to pursue.
Airi is one of the biggest Sakura Gakuin success stories, with a booming acting and modeling career.
She frequently appears as a TV personality on variety shows, etc.
Sure, she still has an obvious shy side, but that's part of her charm.
As Rick mentioned, SG existed to give the girls experience in the entertainment industry, not to be a successful idol group. SG is an idol group pretending to be a school. But in some sense, it's both a school and not a school. Because it's also a method Amuse used to give their more promising girls experience is all fields of entertainment, SG does acting, singing, dancing, receiving interviews, doing interviews, hosting, etc. Thus giving the girls a chance to develop their exiting and new skills, and even discover hidden talents.
You definitely don't get Sakura Gakuin at all.
