You should buy innova/hycross/carnival for middle row comfort. Fortuner is (what you refer to as a truck in the US) for rugged performance. Price on the other hand is a subjective matter and govt import taxes along with GST is responsible.
Dont know why roads are Kerala is so narrow in big cities too. Worst state in comparison of roads and many people are dying too because of road accidents
