@@brianjacobs1241 Sounds like my pops. Could never get ahead because it’s just work, bills, sleep. I told myself at a young age I would try to use that saying work smarter not harder quite literally. Nothing wrong with physical labor but leave it to the young guys. Become a manager. Change positions. Take the steps to change your life. Don’t succumb to being a worker bee and giving your body up for 60+ hours a week of hard labor. We need people like you that are in the trenches working hard, but you owe it to yourself to get out of that.

Wow! I have tears in my eyes, what a beautiful start. I have two kids, 21 and 23 following there unconventional paths, one as a composer, multi instrumentalist, fronting 3 bands and one as a Computer Science Student, entrepreneur. I chose to be a big part of their lives, used my money wisely, didn't work as much, developed there interests and watched them flourish. You are a family building a path together, in an unconventional way, I wish you well on your journey, let your expectations go and enjoy the little things.

Stop motion animation at 7, led to many worn out cameras and a need to make animation and effects on his movies, At 11 year old he took a single player game off the internet and made it multiplayer so his friends could play at the same time, and the company hired him. When his science fare project (turning 2d images and video into 3d, real time) gets him invited to several universities including MIT, he was 12. He wrote a operating system and a programing language by 15 and won the Toshiba award at UVic. I can go on and on but SFU is the most entrepreneurial CS department in the world and he is there to make friends and connect with people more than attending University. He and some friends are running the main SFU CS club, they are in second year. He is fairly unconventional for he is working on his new startup company but wants to find interaction and people that want to work with him at university but mostly have fun.

As a single father and widow at 35, my most important bit of advice is this. Defend their childlike vision, dont let society break them into a proper little wage slave like so many of us have become. As someone who has broken the mold already, you're more well equipped for this than I was. Good luck and a most heartfelt congratulations to you and your family.

First of all thanks for sharing these beautiful moments. I am myself a father of a 9yo, so your emotions deeply resonated with me. What a year you are having! As said before you flopped the nuts in life itself. You can throw away that list of plans because you checked all the boxes in the span of 6 months! Well the money part will most probably need some grinding but hey, such is life. You both have pure hearts and smarts, I’m betting it will work out.
