LucentTear On the contrary, Touhou has also done this at least once. In Imperishable Night, the last phase of Eirin's "Hourai Elixir" spellcard intentionally slows the game down. I know it happens in Easy Mode, but I don't remember if the higher difficulties do it too.
This game...for all the bullet hell it puts you through. Has some of the most SPECTACULAR pixel artwork if you're spectating. I forgot there was a tiny ship in there watching the deadly bullets bring sickening, yet awe-inspiring digital art to life.
Larsa when she's off of the dragon (as seen in the video) is her Ultra TLB form. There's an alternate TLB version in Black Label's God Mode called Spiritual Larsa, but she's significantly easier.
It´s been six years...and it still amazes me how someone can be able to play this. I tried a similar game on Nintendo Wii (can´t remember its name now) and I was only able to reach the third stage.
I'm a Touhou fan, and I can tell the difference between this and the spellcards you mentioned. P.S. "Boundary of Wave and Particle" was first introduced in Touhou 9.5...
There is another boss after if Im correct. It's called the ''True Last Boss'', most Cave shmup games have this 'secret' boss. The music at that boss is amazing...
@jimmykudo1 You probably saw video of God Mode, which is in Black Label-version of the game. God-Mode is much easier than ultra. Yes, in God Mode the requirement is no-miss ( no deaths ), but on ultra it is simply 1cc'ing everything before Larsa.
It is well known that Ultra Mode is harder than God Mode. Quote from some website: "God mode has a similar bullet density to Ultra in 1.5, however bullets experience much more slowdown. This, combined with the newly upgraded firepower and the new bullet patterns, makes God mode generally accepted to be a more manageable version of Ultra"
This is like gluing infinite loaded machine gun barrels to yourself in five dimensions and then trying to survive after having every gun start shooting at zero range
I've never understood the appeal of these games. It's impressive to see people play them, but at the same time it looks like the video game equivalent of navigating a Tokyo subway at rush hour.
+Kyotra Some people love a challenge, even if it's something as insane as this.. I once managed to get 1,548,427,833 on a similar game called Akai Katana which put me at #9 on the leaderboard. It was a huge challenge for me and took months of frustration and practice but I got there.. This game is MUCH harder but hey, I've always loved the challenge factor in games like these
I agree. With this, the patterns are a bit more predictable and even with all those bullets on screen there is usually a rather easy path to follow unlike Touhou where the attack patterns feel a bit more random.
sheesh, anyone who can get any real form of progress in a bullet hell, especially one of this magnitude deserves some recognition for not ripping their skin off in frustration, especially for a near perfect run (no lives lost till the final round?)
Nahhhh... This is not the worst of CAVE's danmaku tlb things. The original mushihimesama's tlb literally forces you to Micrododge worse than anything else
It's not as clear cut as you're making it sound. Stage 5 Ultra is essentially impossible on the iPad: point blanking the torches is just not a doable task when you essentially have to stay in place for a prolonged period of time and manually poke the corner of the screen every time you want to activate or deactivate your shot. Patterns with odd arced/diagonal gaps (notably taisabachi's first pattern in DFK) are much easier to deal with, but streaming and micrododging segments are harder.
From my understanding, Ultra Mode is generally considered to be significantly more difficult than God Mode, even though they're the same difficulty setting by equivalency. Kind of ironic, really...
Is your hitbox 1 by 1 pixel in this game or what? I'm seeing all sorts of shit fly all over him. I've never played the game so someone please enlighten me.
It's not unusual for bullet hell games to have a hitbox much smaller than the actual sprite. I never played the game either, but I'd guess the hitbox is the orange part of the sprite (the character?).
It has to be small if it wasn't this would be near impossible (which it already is) and if there was larger hitboxes the creators would have had to severely reduce the amount of Projectiles
Typically in Cave shmups you can tell where your hitbox is by looking for a glowing kind of object in the middle of your ship, character, Some bullet hell games even encourage grazing the bullets to increase your score! These games at this high of a level of play (like in this video) would be impossible if the hitbox were the whole ship.
@GearPhoenixRazar49 the 1 form is because the play died during the fight, the second form only shows when the player wins the first form without dieing.
Although I think spiritual larsa is harder due to health bar not dropping as fast as ultra mode, I can respect this boss being harder because of the 2 health bars given. At least it's not the BS the final boss of Espgaluda had and that was if you bomb the final form of the boss it regenerated its health back equal to the output of the bomb you charged.
Thats relative. To put things in perspective, considering You cannot beat the boss in the video at all, nor for that matter even reach it, what do you call hard?
Spiritua Larsa only appears if you're playing the Black Label version of Mushihimesama Futari, and get through God mode without dying once. I'm not sure how you get the second phase of the fight shown here, though. EDIT: I just watched a play through of God Mode without Spiritua Larsa, and the second phase didn't appear. I guess it's only in the regular version of Mushihimesama Futari.
pokedart9001 In the original version of Futari you get to the second phase of Larsa by not continuing in Ultra Mode. In Black Label, the second phase is replaced by Spiritual Larsa and you get there by not losing EVER in God Mode.
I bought this game from playasia. I used to watch this exact replay from the leaderboards in hopes of learning how to beat ultra mode, but the gameplay is just impossible to copy. Game was just too difficult for me to beat.
It's just memorization and some luck. And probably about 1,000 hours playtime in this one game. You can master anything, just depends how much time you want to put in. This is very impressive though.
***** Ya and about 1000+ hours of play time. I'd say it's more repetition than anything. Your brain just knows what to do after attempting the same thing hundreds of times. Not to take credit away from speedrunners and pros, but when you play against an AI opponent a hundred times then you better be able to perfect it.
***** IMO it's a waste of time to master one game to this level. He/She could have spent hundreds of hours enjoying other games or doing other things. Putting that amount of time into such a sadistical game doesnt make sense to me. You know it wasn't fun to learn how to be this good, those hundreds of hours probably felt like a stressful job rather than a fun experience. But everyone has their own feelings about what is valuable to them.
Also the freaking sense of satisfaction you get when beating something that hard. Look at that guy. NOONE will say he sucks at shmups. And I aspire to beat this level aswell. May take me another 10 years+ (I'm currently still trying to get good at Touhou), but I won't give up either xD
There's a mame version that can emulate it. mame = multiple arcade machine emulator, you will have to search for it and the rom yourself, but google should be able to help you there.
@Sasupoika2 gotta try the game when i finally have an xbox. and why didn't CAVE port this game to ipod touch, they did to espagaluda and dodonpachi. itouch only got a crappy BUG PANIC for mushihimesama
Bullet hell games: The only kind of games you wish it could lag.
+Touhoulicious CAVE: The only danmaku publisher that makes the game lag on purpose.
Because it would just be plain impossible if they didn't.

You can almost count the amount of pixels that aren't bullets.
what, you mean 10?
Robert Stoll how do you count that high???????????
This is like asking me to dodge rain...
Woolipop Well this series will be easy for me then
Gonna remember that next time I need to explain what bullet hell games are!
Wow what a noob
You can't dodge rain ? 👵
Western people: Dark Souls is the hardest game ever.

Isnt dark souls made by japanese person?
@@sharonluke2198 yeah but it has spread to western and largely played by them. These type of obnoxious hardcore games didn't make much through.

HO HO HO HO HO.
That f*cking laugh.
Wow good work! Ive been playing for years and I cant beat this boss without continuing a few times.

Rotmg can definitely be very hard. Your comment is many years old, but in the time since they've added some gnarly bosses and events.
did not expect to see rotmg mentioned
I agree. With this, the patterns are a bit more predictable and even with all those bullets on screen there is usually a rather easy path to follow unlike Touhou where the attack patterns feel a bit more random.
Boss: Takes 7 straight minutes of a laser and bullet barrage
Player: "Don't touch me with your pinky... No, don't!---" (explodes)
If you can beat this game on that mode without any credits you are successfully one of the best players in the universe.
sheesh, anyone who can get any real form of progress in a bullet hell, especially one of this magnitude deserves some recognition for not ripping their skin off in frustration, especially for a near perfect run (no lives lost till the final round?)
If you can dodge a bullet, you can dodge a ball
they really wanted to make the most difficult game in history
Boss got more health bars than California
well....i...well...someday,i will play this awesome game!i swear to you,im falling in love with mushihime
This is an arcade game. There is a port of it for the 360. As far as I know none of the newer Cave games are playable in emulation.
This...is.... IMPOSSIBLE!
Nahhhh... This is not the worst of CAVE's danmaku tlb things.
The original mushihimesama's tlb literally forces you to Micrododge worse than anything else
You think this is bad? Play Dodonpachi Sai-Daioujou.
Inbachi is far more horrifying in her terms of how _fast_ she fires her bullets.

they told me that len'en was touhou but brutal
i assume this game is len'en 's AB-EX difficulty but brutal
It looked almost impossible to beat the boss until i watch this video
I always liked the scoring systems of these games. Like how could you tell the story over and over of how you earned 49 Gilliondy points?
A true pilot can fly in between the rain drops.
Dodge rain? Please. This man can probably dodge air molecules.
These two probably have enough firepower to destroy the largest star in the galaxy.
And there were people who saw this and said that Sans is harder than this.
Like, seriously?
I have the music that plays during this boss on my phone, and every time it comes on it scares me.
lol.
OH HO HO HO HO
I'm gonna honest. The 2nd phase of Ultra Mode looks more challenging that God Mode
Well ultra mode is ridiculously harder than god mode anyway
From my understanding, Ultra Mode is generally considered to be significantly more difficult than God Mode, even though they're the same difficulty setting by equivalency. Kind of ironic, really...

Yeah it's the little orange dot, and actually a lot of bullet hells make a bright dot to show the characters hitbox.

It's actually legitimately hard, though, not impossible. You can actually beat it on one credit if you're crazy good at the game.
do you know where i can find the second piece of music? 3:20 i can find the piece for the first phase rather easily, but i can't find the other.
I would say that the TLBs are about the same difficulty, but Ultra is harder than God in general, so it's harder to reach the Ultra TLB.
This is how WoW mythic should look like.
well... it's written ultra mode on the screen
