His era of quality TV is gone forever. My favorite book as a kid was a "Pop-Up" book of "Mr Roger's Neighborhood". I also must admit I liked the SNL parody with Eddie Murphy "Mr Robinsons Neighborhood"
That's probably the most accurate as to how the average person is/was about Mr. Rogers. Yeah, we were all special in his eyes and we were probably too young to understand self-confidence and similar topics.

As a kid, Mr. Rogers was too soft and gooshy for my taste, but as an adult I have great admiration for his media production career and character.
