    I have watched several reviews on Topo trail runners and have been an Altra fan for years. Late last summer I attempted to buy new Altras. As usual they changed the design of my favorite styles and each year I would get fewer miles on a pair of Altras all the while the price continued to increase. I have several hundred miles on my Topos and love them for all the reasons you stated. So long Altra and Hello Topo.

    Former Altra Lone Peak fan. Tried Topo Terraventures first time in 2021 on a 275 mile AT section hike. Wore them out using them for daily wear the rest of the year.

    I primarily use Topo. I also use Altra. Though I own a few Altra's, I no longer own Lone Peaks. I had a pair and had to get rid of them immediately. Those are the sloppiest shoe I've ever had. The Topo I use the most are my Ultraventur 1 & 2. I am interested in trying out the Pursuit, but even more the all new Traverse. Thanx for the video my Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

    I went to REI in Woodland Hills, and looked for the Topos. Guess they're not in the store yet, though they have some on the website. Ended up trying the Lone Peak 7's on out of curiosity and they actually fit my feet really well! Ended up buying a pair for cheaper elsewhere online. There was another Altra model that looked like it had more mesh, and less padding, and I tried that out, hoping it would be better for drying out after stream crossings, but it wasn't as comfy as the Lone Peak. Have always used Salomon X Ultra Gortex series shoes, but want to do the Valley classics again this summer, like Switzer Falls and Eaton Canyon so need some non-waterproof, quick drying shoes for those places, after all the rain this year.

      @peterbedford2610 Thanks for replying. Lone Peak 7 is my first try of Altras, and I've walked well over 1000 kilometres in them - they're showing wear now - and I have loved them. I picked up the shoes and took them on an overnight backpacking trip. While I really love the shoe coming from the Speedgoat 5's, I just couldn't handle the pronounced arch. I figured it was just in the sole, but it's part of the shoe. A shame because I really like the shoe, but it was starting to hurt after a while.

    Topo Pursuit 2 tread nubs are about 4.6mm tall while the Lone Peak 8 are about 3.6mm tall. So this Topo is 27% taller than the Altra, hence part of reason the wear longer. My guess is that the Vibram sole compounding is more durable. My daughter just finished up first 500 miles on Lone Peak 8 and needs to get new trail runners as the soles have worn.

    Thanks for this review, Cris! I've really wanted to try the Topo's, but finding it difficult to locate a place to try them on. May just have to give it a go on the prime order and keep fingers cross. Sometimes I wear an 11 or 10.5. On the LP 6 it's been 10.5. Thoughts on if I should go with the same on the Pursuit?

    • @Hikingguy

      You can do the 10.5 with the Pursuit, should be okay. And you can order from REI too and just send back if they don't work. I also heard the new Terraventure is coming out this summer - will try those too - the Pursuit is def a bit more beefy and has been working well for me this summer

  • @SecondHalfofLife
    @SecondHalfofLife 6 месяцев назад

    I might have to give these a go. I'm looking for a shoe with a stiff front (forefoot/midfoot) due to some big toe arthritis. I also have a very wide to box and wear 2Es whenever possible. I've worn the Topo Trailventure 2 boots and they fit my feet well, as did the ultraventure 3 shoes. The Ultraventures unfortunately just felt too soft/cushy for my liking and had a bit more toe flex than I liked for my new condition. But fit was bang on for wide toe box and it was a good looking shoe. Ultraventure is also available in wide sizes.
    Ironically the HOKA speedgoat 5 is what I ended up with. It does have a narrow toe box but is available in a 2E wide size, so that made it liveable for me. Good stiff rocker sole really is comfy for me to walk in too.
    Really enjoyed the review, keep it up. and maybe add a quick flexing of the toe box area into future reviews for us Hallux Rigidus (arthritic big toe) sufferers.

    Umm interesting. I had the topo Terraventure 3s which I’ve commented on before in your videos. Great shoe. I bought the 4 WP recently for hiking in the north of England. A lot of wet ground. Definitely not as comfortable as the non waterproof versions, and actually not 100% waterproof anyway in my opinion, but is any shoe? Noticed the pursuit doesn’t have the rock plate; is this compensated for with the thicker sole would you say? Cheers.

    • @Hikingguy

    Ok. Stupid question - I getting back into hiking. Just did the El Cajon Mountain Trail. Thx for the get info on that btw. I just purchased a pair of Moab boots. I was very happy I had them. Rain, freezing rain at top, mud, standing water and small streams were what I encountered. Hiking shoe would have seemed inadequate for a hike like that. Maybe shoes for summer/fall? What about ankle support? Not a big concern?

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  8 месяцев назад

      I've found that for me ankle support doesn't really do anything. And if you check out PCT / AT hikers almost everyone is in a trail runner. If it's cold and snowy I'll either wear a Gore-Tex high cuff for warmth or just throw a neoprene sock on with my trail runners and plow through anything.
