This is great! Thanks Steve for bringing this insight with Ron. Leisky was beyond nice. He took my uncles phone in 1998 to tell me how to get to Appin race track as I was travelling up from Victoria ;-)
Ron Lechien is one of the most naturally talented riders I have ever seen, easily one of my favorite riders. FYI: Number 29 (from 1st Heat) is Ray Sommo
to anyone that grew up staying up till 2AM recording supercross races this is incredible. Awesome insight. I probably have every single race that was broadcast in the 80s/90s on VHS, surprisingly most of them still play fine.
Epic, I never seen or heard Ronnie in the media, great re-wind. Ron also went on to win the local Ullevi Supercross in Sweden this year, or possibly -89. I would agree to Ron commenting on the inventive track builders then as "Ullevi" was largely 10 containers and a motocross-track inside an arena gone mudder. A 12 year old thought he had seen "The Machine" since of the questionable PA-sound and small vocabulury, but I had a first taste of some rock'n'roll, and my monthly, by arrival one month old copy of MXA, would teach me more on Lechien. Good Times.
RL netted nearly as much money as many of the kids today because back then, there weren't personal trainers, managers, publicists, etc. Plus, inflation has eroded the dollar, so the disparity is not that big. If he had a nickel for every time, someone told him if he had done more cardio, he would have topped the record books, but he was one of the most talented riders of any era.
Smoooth as SILK!! The MACHINE

Hello from Switzerland .
Dude you gotta do more of these
I remember that, Ron was pretty much always 3rd. Ward and Johnson were on another level.
Freaking Dogger is a total hoot calling this one!🤣
So rad

Lechien had a smooth , fast style . Similar to how Bayle rode .
a great natural rider that threw it alll away on drugs. What a waste
