    As an old lady I know exactly why he chose them. Old women are effectively nuetered, if you consider the value society gives them. Yet they are very usefull in practical matters and offten more skilled and in inventive than younger ones.

      I don't believe the Zheng He voyages is history because the original book Ying Ya Sheng Lan (瀛涯勝覽)did not say women were on the ships. It says only 27,670 men. Men and women, such a contradiction meant any modern historians are free to add new ingredients to the original story which was written as a novel, in it, the author used a Chinese eunuch to belittle foreigners in encounters where the foreigners kowtowed and prostrated a Chinese eunuch as a god. Gentlemen, please read the Chinese book otherwise you will be fooled forever.

    Midwifery was and is known worldwide. It is hard to believe that any culture the Zheng He expeditions met needed help with childbirth. The over 30 women were basically skilled workers but still slaves in many ways with very little say in their own lives. They were valued for their ability with everyday tasks but just because they were not young does not mean they were not abused by the men on board.

    Early in the video he said that these voyages brought economic benefit to China. That isn't what I learned in Chinese history class. I learned that these voyages of enormous fleets were tremendously expensive, brought back very little return on investment, and that is a big reason why they were discontinued.

    Zheng He's voyages to the Western Seas was a novel, not a history. I know this because I did not find any deeds accomplished by him. We were told he visited more than two dozen countries. But we were not told what he had done there.

    Older women cam still satisfy men but they dont pregnant needing more groceries and don't give birth so eliminate all that goes along with that. Do no babies taking up space or crying or dying on the voyage. So their woman on board want have babies adding worries and stress to their daily lives on voyages.

    • @legpol
      @legpol 18 дней назад

      It was obvious that the women onboard Zheng He's ships were added by modern historians because the original history book 瀛涯勝覽 did not say so; it said 27,670 men. The freedom of modern historians to add more contents to an old story showed that the Zheng He saga was not a history. It was a novel, which allows any additions.

    I beg to differ. Older woman instead of younger one to make sure the fleet coming back. Imagine the crew to bring along their young wives with huge treasure on board. High possibility they decided to resettle somewhere else with ZhengHe as a new king. Young women back then are expected to breed as many children as possible, it will be a burden instead of any help. Other than that to keep the young crew disciplined & ward off lusty mind, imagine months or years on the voyage.

    This is contradicted by not just the mention of hang li po and her very large retinue of young servants, but of the anecdotes of Chinese girls presented to would-be islamacised leaders of that region.

    It was reported that Zheng He had visited more than 20 countries. But what he did in those countries was not reported. Why! He went there just sightseeing! Also, his huge armada of ships were not seen by anybody. And, he did not leave a word behind to tell us what was accomplished by him with those countries. What was widely reported was the numbers of his ships, of his men, of the countries, of visits. What kind of history you were teaching us?
