  • One of Australia’s most iconic travel experiences, Spirit of Tasmania makes travelling across Bass Strait flexible, convenient and easy. The twin ships depart both ports nightly as well as daily in peak season. On board, you’ll find excellent facilities, comfortable cabins and plenty of space. On the decks, plenty of fresh air and unparalleled views await.
Once you've embraced the fresh sea breeze, there's plenty more waiting for you on board with three decks to explore: enjoy options of three bars, catch a new release movie in one of two cinemas, or linger over a long lunch.
The trip on board Spirit of Tasmania takes approximately 9-11 hours. Spirit of Tasmania is equipped with some serious stabilisers and is massive, however, it can still get quite choppy out in the open waters of Bass Strait.
There is a private bathroom and shower for all the passengers in your cabin, but the rooms are very small. Bedding and towels are provided, and there are also powerpoints for charging and lights for reading near each bed.
The ship has a max capacity of 1400 passengers and 500 cars plus 110 trucks (trailers). The vessel was launched in 1998 and currently operates on the Victoria (Australia)-Tasmania ferry route Melbourne-Devonport.
You may take one carry-on bag or suitcase on board and leave the remainder of your luggage in your car. Your vehicle cannot be accessed during the voyage so please take medication and other personal items with you.
Check-in opens 2.5 hours prior to departure and closes strictly 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. If you have special needs, please check in at least 2 hours prior to departure. Don't be late, cause the process does that long. One more thing, it's not based on first time first onboard, but they will categorised each cars and embarking the ship depends on their formulation.
Free media streaming is available in all public areas (excluding cabins). Stream SpiritFree.tv, free-to-air channel, on your own device and plan your Tassie road trip with lots of inspiring videos.
