@@WeAllJuggleKnives that’s all of us my friend, getting older isn’t a sin, mediocrity is the sin,..if you’ve been doing something for 30yrs and still suck?, step down!, but that’s not you my friend😁
Have you tried using this indoors? Is it a good size for that or would a wakazashi be better? The Dragonfly Wakazashi, for example, would have been perfect for me, but it isn't getting good reviews on Amazon. Ie. Problems with quality control. The warrior series, wakazashi however, looks good, except for the fact that it has a small handle. This is why the Chisa looks good. I guess if I gripped it higher on the handle, that might compensate to some extent and still be useful indoors?
Old schoolers rather pay thousands for a blade that is inferior to a 300.00 cold steel blade lol. I have the full-size CS Warrior and its awesome so im biased. The reality is this 300.00 katana is far superior to anything they had in the age of the Samuri. the metallurgy alone will blow any authentic Katana out of the water plain and simple.
My question is how do they really justify $$$ for 1055 high carbon steel when it is the same steel they use in their ultra budget machetes? Food for thought...
haven't bought either personally, but its craftsmanship. If you had a master painter and a novice painter paint your portrait using the exact same materials which one would you expect to pay more? From what I know about the cold steel katanas they are USA made and held to a much higher standard then their lower end products. In terms of balance, heat treatment and many other important factors when crafting a carbon steel tool.
+Chris Thorn Yeah, 1055 is a great choice in steel for swords. In a sword, toughness should be considered above edge retention, 1055 fits that bill perfectly. The other reason for price difference, well, there's quite a few. Mirror polish, extra care in sharpening, generally much thicker than the machetes, better balanced, and materials in the handles/scabbards/sheaths, etc. Prices could be a bit cheaper regardless, but they're okay, especially if bought from different site outside Cold Steel, then you get your money's worth.
Nice sword. I've been into chisa or ko-katanas lately. I bought the Cheness Ko-Katana and have been looking at the Cold Steel Chisa. I'd like to see some more cuts, hint hint. Lol great channel BTW. I don't comment enough, but your a great thrower man. Reviews are awesome too. Thanks for all the effort you put into them. Darryl.
how well does it hold an edge? i find my 9260 spring steel swords tend to dull quickly so i have to sharpen them often so i wonder if 1055 spring steel would hold and edge longer
Very nice sword it looks like it is built like a Tank, could it be another reason CS makes their swords a little heavier is not only to stand up to heavy abuse but for cutting demos and competition?
"Japanese people will hate on me because they basically say you're not even allowed to call something a katana unless it's made on the soil of their homeland". This Scottish whisky drinker agrees. 😉
Thanks! I have always wondered, if one of their swordmakers moved to another country, would the new swords he makes suddenly not be "real" katanas? They go a little too far. Then again I also heard that the guy who does the hair on the sumo wrestlers is supposed to study for 10 years before he is allowed to actually touch the hair on them. I'm part Asian too, but they a little cray cray.
Its not a hate thing, its a respect thing. You should know that the japanese believed thatevery katana has a soul of its on, but that is traditionally hand forged japanese blades not american or chinese made.
WeAllJuggleKnives you ever see Dan Keffeler's Super Assassin that is the deepest cutting blade I have ever seen it is incredible. That would be my Ultimate Blade Weapon/Katana
On their website, it says that the blade may expose me to nickel, a possible carcinogen. That was not on the information for when I bought the blade off of e-bay. Should I be worried?
Hey Chris, you know what else nickel has been used for? As currency in 5 cent pieces in Canada. I've never heard of lots of people dropping off because of handling that. Considering that you will not be likely touching the blade directly most of the time, I think you should be okay. I just think some states require companies to say that, even if there is only the slightest possibility.
Oh yeah, and since we are on the topic, have you tried using this indoors? I want a sword, but katanas look like they would be too long for indoors. Wakazashi's are a choice as well, but the Cold Steel one's on amazon were not getting very good reviews, due to quality control issues. Therefore, I was also considering this.
You can see that frommm the Australian guy with the website "sword buyers guide" He designed his own katanas with T10 tool steel and chops blocks of wood inhalf and shit lol, as a test of course.. (didn't baton but close enough.. batoning would look hilarious lol, got that nice fat and flat edge on the back for it).
rock3guitar3 The ones from Handmadesword have blades that are narrow and thick, very nice overall, but not the best if you're looking to cut bottles. For bottle cutting just use a light machete, it's the easy way out. However, if you just want a pretty cool looking well made waki, then the handmadeswords ones are very nice.
WeAllJuggleKnives I'm looking for a more historically accurate and functional waki is there any from handmadesword to recommend or is there a better place to get one like that for $250 usd or under :P
hemi1031 right now on Ebay has some KickAss Deals on Cold Steel knives , I got a good pile from him over the last 2 months :) Not trying to spam , But he has REAL good pricing , I almost thought maybe he had clones , But Nope they are real!
Cold Steel Fanboy Katana Lover It feels solid, like it could slice or hack through someone grievously. I've always wondered if your name was pro or anti Cold Steel!
I like the chisa or ko katana (analogs for the traditionalists reading) for one hand slices. Hey, we Juggler you ever set up 2 or 3 stands for combos? It is backyard fun like no other.
Doesn't Katana mean Sword in Japanese? So by that logic...No sword made outside of Japan is a sword? I love Cold Steel's swords but they are a tad too pricey for me, I bought one for 55 dollars from Amazon and it's certainly not very durable it's still quite usable and deadly.
Heh heh heh why do you say some people try to cut down tree's , why, because I do, too funny, I do admit I don't have a Katana but the closest I have is my Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki to bad they don't have a specific video on my Rodent Rucki chopping down a tree, but they do have a Rodent Waki in action, there is very little difference between the Rodent Waki and the Rodent Rucki and yes I do use my Rodent Rucki as a bush tool, to me it's just a long knife, first it has a choil, I can baton with it, and it's built tough so I know it's a great chopper, it's just a little odd to carry a 15 1/2" blade, since most bush hacker's have blade's between 4"-6"+ blade's, anyhow at first I though why did I get a small sword, but the fun, and how good the tool is, there are guy's that envy my Rodent Rucki, Thanx
If you take away all the stupidity and bs that surrounds the katana, its actually kind of a pretty blade....but the fanboys have made it so I just grimace anytime I see one. Tis a shame!
PSHHHHHHHH!!! still a katana.. it's an object that has been given a name.. that name doesn't change depending on where it was made.. it's still the same object.. unless they have a name for foreign made ones? That would be a useful term to know (don't say sword/katana-like object). And regardless.. we don't have to have the same names for everything.. to foreigners.. they're all katanas (not talking about all shinkins, just the katana shaped ones), regardless of Japan. And also not everything has to be so dang formal, especially with such a trivial issue like this. But yea.. what would they call a foreign "katana" anyway? a fake katana? lol, that's not cutting it.
It cant be called a Katana if it's not made in Japan. Because that's where they were invented.... Ok, let's assume that's true. So what do other countries call computers ? And televisions ? And railways. And light bulbs. And telephones, etc, etc ? After all, if they are not made in the UK, then those names cannot be used, as that's where all those items were invented, lol.

I recently bought one, and it came dull as fuck. Cold steel does not have any idea what they’re doing. $500+ for an unpolished non-sharp katana? What a piece of shit! Fuck cold steel.
I think they have a forge in China making them for them, so it depends how much Cold Steel pays them, whether the forge would put a good edge on. I know those forges can do it, because the more expensive Hanwei and Dynasty Forge swords come with a sharp edge.

my dad has been in the computer industry for 30years and flys all over asia for business. Coolnicknameguy They were heavily restricted after WWII, and I wouldn't be surprised if they still are. So yeah, it is lame for them to rag on us for not buying their items when their own gov't is squashing their market on their homefront.
The old school swordsmiths just don't like that we can make all of their stuff industriously.
Good cut with a pocket knife is enough to stop most people. With a Katana it's presence is enough to stop most ppl in their tracks. Good cutting.
Damn, that is one attractive blade
Nice katana, straight clean cuts, well done!😁

how well does it hold an edge? i find my 9260 spring steel swords tend to dull quickly so i have to sharpen them often so i wonder if 1055 spring steel would hold and edge longer
Looking at the numbers alone, the 0.60 carbon content vs the 0.55 content... I'd say your 9260s hold an edge better
Personally I like the Ronin Katana better but the CS is nice. Good review!
Ninjas must have! X
It really is , very nearly , a ninja type sword ! 😊
I like the tip on that one, I had a hanwei katana with a strangely shaped tip.
