Ha yes time to ruin everyone's fun and start political discussion. Secret Police and other authoritarian elements aren't strictly Fascist. The Soviet Union had secret police, present day China has secret police, North Korea has secret police, etc. Fascism is an ideology that brands itself on perpetual war and conflict, not necessarily authoritarian. That being said, all Fascist nations that have existed so far (only 2, being Mussolini's Italy and Franco's Spain) have had a dictator. Anyway, Secret Police organisations can belong to any ideology, not just Fascism.
I remember a few years back I left a positive comment on a video of Tell Your World (I think) and was confronted by a guy who swore blind (both literally and figuratively) that Miku was a product of the Illuminati, that her videos were probably full subliminal messages, and that I was like a sheep for listening to her songs instead of believing him. I'm really glad that none of the roughly 20 or more people who confronted him about it mentioned either this song or This is the Happiness and Peace of Mind Committee before everyone lost interest in him and started to ignore him. A lot of people are making weird theories and jokes about the meaning of this song (which is totally fine!) but I want to step in and let y'all know that the secret police actually did exist in Japan mainly during ww2. They were called Kenpeitai and were basically a Japanese KGB- arresting and eliminating those suspected of being 'anti-Japanese' in any way. Imperial Japan was a scary country with arguably the worst record of human rights abuses and war crimes of any society due to the authoritarian and totalitarian government they created that worshiped the emperor as a god and saw itself as the 'only true Asians', giving them the right to do basically anything they wanted. Japan still denies a lot of these events even up until this day- for example, they refuse to acknowledge the Nanjing Massacre which killed an estimated 300,000 over the course of just over two weeks, often considered one of the most horrific events ever to occur. The human experimentation done on Chinese POWs at Unit 731 is mostly left untouched as well, in addition to the well known tradition of 'comfort women'. The 20th century was a very distressing era of human history, not just for Japan but for the world, and I would encourage anyone to take a look into it. It's important to be informed, as the past gives us a lot of insight into current events as well. A lot of people are making weird theories and jokes about the meaning of this song (which is totally fine!) but I want to step in and let y'all know that the secret police actually did exist in Japan mainly during ww2. They were called Kenpeitai and were basically a Japanese KGB- arresting and eliminating those suspected of being 'anti-Japanese' in any way. Imperial Japan was a scary country with arguably the worst record of human rights abuses and war crimes of any society due to the authoritarian and totalitarian government they created that worshiped the emperor as a god and saw itself as the 'only true Asians', giving them the right to do basically anything they wanted.
Japan still denies a lot of these events even up until this day- for example, they refuse to acknowledge the Nanjing Massacre which killed an estimated 300,000 over the course of just over two weeks, often considered one of the most horrific events ever to occur. The human experimentation done on Chinese POWs at Unit 731 is mostly left untouched as well, in addition to the well known tradition of 'comfort women'.
The 20th century was a very distressing era of human history, not just for Japan but for the world, and I would encourage anyone to take a look into it. It's important to be informed, as the past gives us a lot of insight into current events as well. I would, however, like to give a word of caution to those who plan to gain a deeper understanding of the human rights abuses during the Meiji Era- there are pictures and graphic primary sources that are quite disturbing.
