For the past 15 years, Giu Nunez has been presenting herself as a Dj, based in São Paulo with a curiosity and versatility in mixing genres and perceptions.
She started her career at the age of 18 but has been collecting songs since she was a child.
It was by creating her own hits and digging into vinyl records that she created her own aesthetic - with a repertoire for the most exalted listening bars and for the energized dancefloors of rave parties.
"A selection of Brazilian Reggae with layers of Boogie from the 80s and 90s.
All with very poetic lyrics, which vibrate something positive or sometimes a denunciation to preserve nature, against racism and also the hypocrisy of the space race in the perspective of hunger."

Este é Mestre Lumumba, grande alagbe do Ilê Omo Aiye, em São Luiz do Paraitinga. Referência antiga do reggae, com vários discos na carreira. Fez a passagem um ano atrás em março de 2023.

The songs in this selection are probably more known by people in Bahia and Maranhão than in the rest of Brazil. Most of them were recorded four decades ago, but for most of the Brazilians listening to them seem like novelties, as they never entered in contact with them. They are so obscure that this time I found them by finding the name of the albums on Discogs, as the usual quintuple redundancy didn't return anything.
Despite the fact that these songs are regional hits, if you listen to "Neguinha", there's a voice that a good chunk of Brazilians outside Maranhão would easily recognize: Fauzi Beydoun. He sung this song in Festival Maranhão 85, but a year later would join Tribo de Jah, a reggae band that was a huge national success in late 1990s, as its leading vocals. Despite not being the hit that was, Tribo de Jah still plays today and released 19 albums between 1992 and 2021.
