    Nice clean install. I can relate to the pain involved in getting the backing plate installed. I have a Scotty 1060 behind my seat on my old town AP 120. Not fun but definitely worth it. I use a 6lb ball with braided line. There is still some significant blow back when you start to get down beyond 70 feet. I’ve been playing with the idea of trying an 8lb ball.

      Thanks! Our plan for this season is 8lb cannonballs, we used 5 and 6lb on the lake trollers so it should be fine, also thinking of trying a pancake style ball or fish shaped should help out with the drag, thanks for watching! 🙌

    Nice setup! I added the blue snubber to attach the ball. Might be a good idea incase you get snagged on the bottom. I mounted my downrigger to a custom bracket that slides in my boonedox landing gear and can run a electric motor on the other side if i want. It kind of evens it out too with weight distribution. Just came across your channel 👍any issues with running the pdl in saltwater?

    • @kckayakfishing
      @kckayakfishing 3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! We'll be adding some snubbers as well, mostly because it's easier on the hands than trying to grab the line or close to the cannonball, those ball clips are sharp! Weight distribution is a little bit of an issue for us which were working on, with the bigger downrigger plus trolling with 8lb balls you definitely feel the difference! Zero issues running the pdl drive in the Salt, but we wash our kayaks, along with the drives and all our gear after every trip, a bit of a pain but protects our investment! Thanks for watching! 🙌

    You guys are awesome and an inspiration to pursue a passion for adventure!!! Watching your adventures fishing for Cod and Salmon made me laugh out loud. I was however curious why when you hook up on big Salmon, you guys do not use a lightweight fighting belt to seat the butt of your rods in to give you extra leverage and control when landing the fish? I am new to Kayak fishing and found a great deal on an Old Town Bog Water.

    • @kckayakfishing
      @kckayakfishing 4 месяца назад

      Thanks so much! Appreciate the support! We've never tried a belt mostly due to the way that we fight the Salmon, we keep the fish behind us for as long as possible which might make fighting the fish more difficult than easier as we aren't facing the fish it might be hard to get the butt into the belt, it could possibly help in landing the fish like you said, might be a good video idea! Congrats on the Big Water! Welcome to the crazy world of Kayak Fishing! Thanks for watching!

      @kckayakfishing 4 месяца назад

      We haven't used snap weights, we upgraded the downriggers to hopefully be able to troll as deep as possible with 6lb-8lb cannonballs, our Old setup we could really only use a 4lb ball which made our depth range pretty shallow especially when trolling 1.5-2mph with the blowback. It's a cool concept though we might have to try it out for shallower fishing, we'll try anything twice! 😂🤘

    does that scotty orca function correctly with a spinning or mooching reel? Or is it just for bait casters? What pound cannon ball are you tossing on the 1050?

    • @kckayakfishing
      @kckayakfishing 4 месяца назад

      Not 100% sure for spinning reels, I guess if the butt section of the rod was long enough it should work, it will work with mooching reels, the reel will facing up and you'll just have to spin when you pull it out. It's an extremely solid rod holder, great construction. 👍 we will be running an 8 lb cannonball this season on the 1050

    Hi Guys, what is your opinion on Scotty vs Cannon downriggers, vertical vs horizontal handles, which one you think is easier to retrieve 6 or 8 lb weight from the depth. I much appreciate your opinion on this, thank you in advance.

    • @kckayakfishing
      @kckayakfishing 4 дня назад +1

      @sergeychebotarev103 There's absolutely nothing wrong with Scotty Products we have and love a bunch of their gear. With that being said, for kayak fishing, we do prefer the Cannon style of downrigger. The bigger sizes of the Cannon downrigger, being vertical, get taller, not wider. Taking up the same amount of real estate on the kayak as the smaller downriggers. Where as the Scotty gets wider, so if you want a 2:1 ratio to be able to bring in the ball faster, it's going to take up more room on the kayak as the spool gets wider.
      Cannon also offers a 1.5:1 version of their downrigger, which is what we have, bringing the ball up a little bit quicker, but every little bit helps!
      One of the best things the Cannon has going for it is the handle, one handed operation is a huge plus, and you don't have to worry about the handle spinning around while lowering your cannonball, it's a wrist breaker! (Ask Crystal how she knows! 😆) also we've noticed that the Cannon downrigger has the ability to lower the ball slower depending how how far you push the handle, where the Scotty seems to be either on or off for the clutch with no slower descent speed. There's a few other better things about the Cannon downriggers, we're actually making a video to compare them both which should help show alot of what I'm trying to explain.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

      Thank you so much Kyle for prompt reply. It does help a lot. I would like to have uni troll 5 but the price says to hold on. You didn't find the horizontal handle more convenient to retrieve the weight and i didnt think of handle hitting the hand....haha....so your experience of both models is super helpful. Big thank you. I will wait for your video....

    • @kckayakfishing
      @kckayakfishing 4 дня назад +1

      @sergeychebotarev103 honestly I think positioning of the downrigger really determines how easy it will be to crank on, I think for downriggers mounted behind the seat like ours the Cannons are by far the easiest and most comfortable to reel in. But if the downrigger is mounted in front of the seat then I think the Scotty takes that one, as well the Cannon has the handle mounted on the right side of the downrigger with no way to switch sides. Just something else to keep in mind, and we'll definitely make sure we show all of that in the video!

      @@kckayakfishing Solid points! Mine is installed behind the seat (like yours) on the right side and I have to reach over to crank it.
