    This is a great help on what to look for in determining what changes need to be made to the shock!
    I have the Bitubo shocks on my Dyna and I have fiddled with them a little bit and about the only time I bottom out is on large speed bumps in my neighborhood. But I think a turn or two of preload and really paying attention to what changes I feel when changing the rebound will help.

      Cool. 👍
      We try and dial them in, but everyone is a bit different, so fine tuning them, as you said, really paying attention, with a little trial and error they can get matched up to your particular situation.

    I must have lied when I reported my weight. It took 5 turns on the left shock and 6 turns on the right shock to increase my preload settings to get the rubber bumpers to not bottom out. Good advice on the damping adjustment. I thought soft meant a softer ride. They are now set on 3. The ride is improved, but it still isn't what I expected when I ordered the shocks. All of the glowing reports had me convinced that I would be riding on a magic carpet.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, they're not magic...still going to know when there are larger irregularities.
      Everybody rides differently, rides on different road surfaces, and has different expectations.
      The report of a guy that rides on good to great road surfaces is going to give a review that will lead to unrealistic expectations for someone that rides on ok to bad road surfaces.
      Mick, what you can do to get your shocks to the best they can be are the following:
      1. Make sure that bumper is getting all the travel available. (sounds like you've done that)
      2. Play around with the damper...3 and 4, 3 and 2, etc. find where it rides best. They do not have to be the same on each shock.
      3. Look at your front suspension. Mediocre front suspension can make the rear suspension feel bad. We actually need to do a video on this, but the short of it is...
      If the front wheel hits a bump and does not rebound before the rear wheel hits the same bump...you can see how that is a set up for a poor ride quality.

      One must also remember the best performing shock also isn’t the best ride for comfort shock. A “soft” setting will usually offer a more comfortable ride at slow cruising speed limit speeds. But that soft setting won’t have the control of the shock when it comes to higher speed and performance type riding. Race bikes often have a fairly stiff ride at slow speeds.
      If you want more comfort you’ll need more travel from the shock. Which is one thing that lacks across the board on almost all Harley models. I noticed only a slight increase in comfort when I installed these on my bike but the performance and ride quality when riding aggressively was greatly improved over the factory shocks.

      I just installed mine and I’ve put two turns reducing the preload.I’ll ride it for a couple hundred miles before I make another adjustment if I do.I bought some pro action shocks three years ago.I also didn’t think they made much of a difference.I bought a street glide special and rode it home and realized how good they were.These shocks have made an improvement for sure.

  • @paulhood7316
    @paulhood7316 3 года назад +1

    On the Pro action you can REALLY fine tune the rebound getting it very close with the right side setting and using the left as a fine tune

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад +1

      Yes, true that. Just wish they could make some. They have been out of stock for well over a month, and for the last 14 months have not been able to build to meet demand.
      Fortunately the Twin Adjustable Shocks have the same fine tuning option.

    In all fairness it should be mentioned that the shock adjustment is a matter of your riding style. Do you want comfort..then never ride aggressively, do you like to lean sharp into the curves..it better be a bit stiff, otherwise you can easily hit the asphalt withe your exhaust, kickstand or even your primary cover. Note that the centrifugal force sometimes will compress the shocks much more than you expect. And that scraping noise….well…will give you quite a chock 😜☝🏻☠️

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Год назад +1

      Absolutely agree, the shocks should be adjusted, not only for the load and the road conditions, but also for how a person rides.
      We do that on every pair of shocks....based on the answers filled out when ordering. The second on the list is what kind of ride do you prefer....firmer, more aggressive or soft, plusher ride.
      Thanks! 👍

    Do you reuse the flat washers on the outside of the stock shocks? There was nothing i could see in the instructions.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  9 дней назад +1

      No, You should be using the thin bushing on the outside of the mounting ears in place of the washer.

    Thanks how about sag adjustment or is it relevant on a trike

    • @paulhood7316
      @paulhood7316 3 года назад +1

      Sag is relevant on a trike .... I have a set of DK / pro action 14" trike shocks on the shelf we took off a customer's bike because he just would not listen to the advice on setting up the shock and test riding to fine tune ..... we dialed them in on a shop build ... great ride handling and steering as they lifted the trike without lift blocks .... we set 3/4 sag into the trike for rider with max weight in trunk and tourpack full fuel tank for a worst case scenario....

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад +1

      Paul gave a good answer.
      Sag is very important. Without enough sag the shocks would top out (the opposite of bottoming out) which is just as bad for ride and handling quality.
      We address sag by setting the pre load so that when hitting large bumps the shocks just barely bottom out. That way we know that we are getting full use of all available travel.
      If we have built the shock correctly, for the bike/trike and the weight of the rider/passenger/luggage, then the sag will be good when using the above method for adjust pre load.
      We do it this way because getting use of all the available travel is a fixed, known quantity. whereas sag has a range of what is "good". For a comfortable ride ("plush") Sag should be 22% to 33% of the total available travel. For an aggressive ride it should be in the 18%-22% range.

    How much better are these shocks than the Harley shocks? Also, can I ride with these shocks on my 2018 Street Glide with it being lowered 1 inch? I do have my wife on the bike 50% of the time.

      They are Much Better, as seen in the report link below. Yes, they are compatible with 1" lowering blocks.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      There are hundreds of different bitubo shocks. On the 11, 12 & 13" shocks that we set up there is a HUGE difference between the 1-5 settings.

  • @ut1004bp

    I'm a little confused on the that second adjustment (not preload), is it a compression or a rebound or both? Do you set them up or order them with different spring rates, or do all of you units use the same spring rate? Can one assume they will improve the OEM 13" shocks of the late model Road Kings for a light rider and lighter load than avg? with the twin adjustable's normal or only provided springs?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      The damping adjustment (lever at bottom) primarily affect rebound damping, although it does have a small affect on compression damping also.
      We use a variety of different spring rates, to get the shocks set up best for you and your bike.
      They will provide a significant improvement over the OEM 13" shocks, regardless of weight/load. When ordered, we get all the specifics for weights and riding preferences, then set the shocks up accordingly.

    It's always good to adjust the rubber baby buggy bumper before bouncing and bottoming said rubber baby buggy bumper and bouncing around the bend badly breaking bones. 😲🤭 🏍💨
