- Belgian fries shows us that the way we view our "side" dishes are purely just a "view". Fries can be a base, much like bread, rice, or injera. Like with waffles and chocolate, Belgium is a hidden gem in the world of amazing food.
Well, Fries were invented in Belgium, so it’s not surprising that they cultivate one of their most famous cultural exports.
French fries were invented in Belgium. Not fries in general. Fries (fried potatos) are not invented in any specific country.

And French doesn’t mean from France, but cut in the French way. There are different vegetable cut sizes, all with different weird French names. You probably know about the Julienne.
Erm, akshually, as a belgian, fries are also treated as a side dish in most restaurants, but we also treat them as the main course sometimes. Its not as common as you think, really.
When you go to the Netherlands, try Patatje Oorlog. It’s fries with mayonaise (Belgian/ Dutch Mayonaise), peanut sauce and a bit of onions.
Algorithm did one good thing by introducing me to this channel.

come to san diego, try the carne asada fries. it’s the californian equivalent of chicken/lamb and rice. meat and fries are it
Fries are never B list unless theyre prepared incorrectly
"Anything can be a side and anything can be a main dish.". Tell that to my ex.
When I used to live in Hawaii there was this restaurant my family would order from and it’s main thing was hot dogs. I tried a lot of hot dogs that I would like(they have a lot of different kinds) but then I got these loaded potato fries as a side. After that I just got 3 orders of loaded potato fried every time. Man I miss eating them.
Try the African style dishes of these, such as from or inspired by those of their excolonies (such as the DRC, Rwanda, & Burundi). I heard those can be amazing
Aka poutine where fries are the main cheese and gravy Is the side
Chips are basically European's rice, at least in Germanic Europe! It's expected that you'll get chips as a side for pretty much any main meal and it'll be rare to meet a Brit who doesn't eat them at least once a day 😅
Chapstick
When you say carbs which should constitute around 50% of your calories as side..... 🤨
Fries are different cause they're usually junk food unless you airfry them.
Please use chapstick
Sure, fries are no gnocchi, but you do make a point of how little respect they get outside of Belgium and Canada 😂
It's the geography. Potatoes were imported into an already refined society during the Columbian Exchange. Hence when a culture finds such transformative nourishment enabled by a trade based economy... It's always hard to see the forest through the trees.
You mean ‘chips’ haha
Goes to a country where dish was created then GOES WILD ON WHY ITS THE MAIN DISH. Im going Korea next month and I plan to go apeshit on why Kimchi or Gojuchang is on everything.
But the mayo is the most important ingredient!
