This is Mycroft's introduction, but Jeremy Brett looks so pretty I keep getting distracted. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) "The Greek Interpreter".
Watson has that fanboy look on his face with that smile full of admiration/ adulation when hee sees Mycroft and especially when Mycroft compliments him for the reason behind his brothers fame. Genius brother of a genius!
I just love this Mycroft. He's so cuddly. I love how Sherlock seems to expect he's about to be MAJORLY shown up in front of his friend. Their interaction is so brotherly. ^w^
What a balanced performance!. Love how each of the characters bounce of each other not dominating, at the same time outwitting and analysing what they've seen...love it!.
And note that while both brothers are incredibly smart, the books have Mycroft as being smarter, but less inclined to use his intelligence the way Holmes does--which is shown by Mycroft gently showing Sherlock's error in saying there was only one child. Capital performance as they'd say! Capital!
You are most certainly not alone! But alas, 'tis a pity he has been so criminally underrated and almost forgotten after streaming media started showing a 'new' type of Sherlock Holmes. Comparisons are unfair, but it is a human thing, I imagine. What do you say, fellow RUclips user?
Jeremy Brett tries hard, but here he has the scene stolen from him by the superb Charles Gray. At 00:41 where Mycroft rebukes his brother for suggesting only 1 child is priceless. Just love the bit at 1:36 where Watson looks at the camera,he's obviously admiring the acting craft of Gray and Brett and enjoying himself hugely.
These two were the best Sherlock/Mycroft pairing EVER! Note that Charles Gray played Mycroft for another Sherlock I believe. Was it the Seven Percent Solution?
Ok, i have my winner, this mycroft is the best so far, i never imagined him as a "old man", but nvm, hairs colour doesn't matters, he's perfect and this introduction is the best!
Brett's dedicated performance, the panoply of other acting greats in support, the writers' adherence to the essence of the original literary masterpieces and Granada Television's production values have to make these series the definitive screen rendering of Doyle's compelling stories. One wonders why anyone would consider remaking any of the genre, especially those money-hungry sycophantic Hollywood parasites.
Okay, I didn't know it was an actual tradition to have Sherlock look so incredibly gorgeous. Wow. Between the BBC, our very own short steampunk Iron Sherlock Jr, this very, very, *very* handsome Jeremy here and House MD (he's Holmes and he's smokin' hot, fight me), adaptations are like eye candy vending machines
I love this brotherly relationship. I hope that the new Sherlock series does more with Mycroft & Sherlock because it would be worth developing. That's the only part of the series that I don't really care for. Otherwise it's awesome. This scene is almost word-for-word from the book. I just love Mycroft Holmes. And I just LOOOOVE Sherlock. In response to the one who posted this: I'm distracted by Jeremy Brett's beauty as well. :-D
I still remember as a child in the 90s watching this scene and admiring so much his little flourish of the hand "this is the spot". I remember thinking it was so elegant and charismatic. I'm sure I've used it once or twice in my adult life!
Just love the Holmes brothers how they bounce off each other, the way Watson is utterly brilliant with being so confused 🤔 really seriously 😳 there’s two of them! My word.
I was kind of sad they didn't did this on that series xD. It would be so awesome, Like they just sitting in a Coffee shop, Analizing people. It would be so awesome ._.
I cant remember it it was in the show or just the book, but a one point Sherlock admitted that Mycroft was more intelligent than he was to Watson, but thought that Mycroft wasted his talent with "parlor games" by using his talents at parties to impress others. This is why in the new series Sherlock seems to hate his brother because he believes that Mycroft is a sellout for working for the government.
I think that was in Arthur Conan Doyle original book, when Mycroft 1st introduced during the conversation between Sherlock and Watson, along with Mycroft work for government or something
The Wanderer I'll tell you what I wish I could see. The 2 Sherlock, the 2 Johns, and the 2 Mycrofts--from the BBC series and the Granada series--together! That can only happen in fanfiction, alas.
I dare to say, I like the relationship they have in this depiction more than in the modern adaptations. I know siblig rivalry is more interesting than two brothers getting along well, but the way they interact here and seem to have a quiet respect for each other is more memorable than the twisted and over-the-top love/hate they seem to share in BBC Sherlock, imo (besides, a lot of times Mycroft is depicted as an asshole when in the canon he's like, the chillest man in the world xD)
"Aah, Mr Melas... (Me las Piro XD)" Sorry, everytime I see this episode I make this joke. Oh, Jeremy you´re the best Sherlock! And Charles Gray, is wonderful! If I was Watson, it would be like OMG!
i just cannot robert downey jr's portrayal to be holmes at all..seems more like tony stark...holmes must have a debonair calmness about him ...while RDJ is well..acting like tony stark ! Jeremy Brett is the holmes i have always envisioned while reading the stories. every actor will do it differently tho..and Benedict Cumberbatch does a fantastic job in the recent series !
If I would comment everything about Jeremy's way to make acting a real kind of Art, this text would be to long for youtube. (sry 'bout mistakes, I'm german)
@@wdsarah He s a great actor don't get me wrong but I don't think he CAN play Sherlock. for instance his height isn't ideal. I also feel Downey Jr has a little too much goofiness in him to play Sherlock. and of course he lacks a proper British Accent ( i know he s an American but just saying)
You are totally wrong. The age difference between Sherlock and Mycroft is 7 years according to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Jeremy Brett was born in 1933, Charles Gray born in 1928, so in fact the two actors have only a 5 year age gap between then. Do not be deceived by the looks of an actor David.
@@evo5dave Have you not read the Sherlock stories? The two brothers were very different. Sherlock had all the energy and 7 years younger, Mycroft was lazy and preferred to sit in his club, eat and drink. In fact in the stories, he is fat. Meaning it has aged him. Read the books first. As I have, starting many many years ago.
@@evo5dave One of my first books I was given to read in secondary school was Sherlock Holmes. We deciphered many of the stories in English classes over five years.

I love the way JB just glides up that library ladder
Watson is like: Dear Lord... There's two of them
It seems that when their mother gave birth to Mycroft he was such a shock to her that she hesitated about thirty years until she got Sherlock......
Londonrainwaters haha
Charles Gray was only 5 years older than Jeremy Brett, weirdly enough. All that government work must take a toll on him...
Londonrainwaters LOL!
In the books he was quite overweight so that might have exellarated his aging ( sorry If my words are spelled incorrectly i'm from Germany)

Charles Gray: what a smooth operator.
Jeremy Brett is definitely my favourite Sherlock.

Charles Gray has put so much effort in playing brother mine Mycroft and I must say I am beyond impressed. Jolly well done indeed.
hahaha Watson giving us the look at the camera
1:36
He was "damn, are you all seeing this? I bet you all want to switch places with me."
