Its not very often when a town loses half its population and comes back stronger than before. What an awesome story. TFS

That was what I was thinking. Glad to see at least a few places beat the odds.

Yeah I thought that was a rare part of the story! I see big things ahead because of its proximity to Austin.

Being near fast growing Austin has certainly helped. I live in what was a small town south of Austin. Since I moved here more than 30 years ago, the population has grown from 2000 to over 17000. No more small town.

I have ridden the tourist train mentioned in the video. At that time, it was using a steam engine. However, this engine developed boiler cracks(very dangerous), so now they use an old diesel-electric engine. Another neat town around Austin is Lockhart, this town has a very neat town square and courthouse.

My ex and I moved to Bertram in 2011 and since then I've very much enjoyed living here. Due to my being disabled, I can't go out so it's nice to be able to have a look around and see what's outside my front door. For example, I never knew that one of the memorials was for the Challenger. It makes me happy to know it's there. You even caught our house in one of your shots :)

I’ve been through Bertram many times on the way to and from school in burnet, which is not a good school district from my experiences, definitely has a small town charm & I hope there’s like antique shops & what not, i know that downtown may get revitalized

    • @ZiddersRooFurry

@@worldsgreatestdude1784 There's the Bertram library store. They have some antiques there. We lost some storefronts a few years ago due to a freak gust of wind in the middle of the night that took their roofs off. One of the oldest buildings in town had to be demolished for safety reasons. I don't get out much due to my being disabled so I'm not too familiar with what businesses still exist here but there are a few places left. Most people treat it as what it is-a quaint little place to pass through while going down the nearby highway.

You travel as much as I did when I was younger. We buried/areal fiber optic cable. I would put more than 60,000 miles year on an old Ford Super Duty 450 with a solid (argh, I could run over a dime and tell you heads or tails) front axle. That was years ago though. Anyway.... you have a really nice show here (seriously, you do). Thank you for posting !! We always look forward to whatever you are putting out next. Be good, be safe.

If you move here with kids, don’t forget that you’ll send your kids to Burnet schools, which as someone who went there for 5 years, I wouldn’t recommend. Used to go through there everyday

My home town of Big Sandy, Texas (population around 1100 or so) might make an interesting subject for a video. It was quite famous in the 70’s for its undefeated football team which produced 2 NFL players one of which became a Super Bowl winning coach for the Chicago Bears.
