From the keyboard to the baseline to the drums. Classic band I must say. Sometimes rehearsals were done at my dad's place. I live all members of this band. Wish I could meet with any or their children. RIP to those who are not more like my dad Jonnie Woode Olimmah
You don’t have to understand the language to like his music. Great. This was his line and called of music. What was he thinking that made him turned out of his calling and started playing Christian music. JMO
I guess that sent him to his early grave. Things do not work out that way in this world. As if that was not bad enough, they took him to TB Joshua church for a miracle healing. Before they sent to America for treatment, the cancer had already eaten him deeper. RIP Sunny. He was a great guy in the music world...
I do remember vividly during the early morning hours of April 12, 1980 when Liberia former President Dr. William R. Tolbert Jr was preparing to attend the Independent ceremony of then Rhodesia now Zimbabwe with Robert Mugabe concomitantly being ushered in as her first Head of State, unfortunately the then Master Sergeant Samuel Kenyon Doe of the Liberian Army assassinated President Tolbert through a military coup. Sunny Okonsun's "Papa's Land" played throughout the day to climax the event. It was then predicated upon such recognition that Doe extended him (Okonsun) an invitation to travel to Liberia and entertain the PRC ( People Redemption Council ) with his revolutionary songs. ruclips.net/video/JF6z3xr2peA/видео.html

the version of My Ancestors is absolutely different on the US pressing:
www.discogs.com/Sonny-Okosuns-Which-Way-Nigeria/release/2338977
To be honest, I think I like Nigerian pressing more due to the wobbly bassline
@thafonds
