    I thought permanent residency means you have that privilege FOREVER and do NOT need to reapply. The 7 year thing is just to get a new card I heard not applying again. Can you provide proof if I’m wrong please?

      Hello! Thank you for your question. You are referring to what I said at 3:06. I followed up with a phone call to the Shinagawa office of immigration and they confirmed what you said! The privilege to live in Japan is permanent, the card is not! Thanks for correcting me! They said you will need you passport and an updated photo to complete the application for THE NEW CARD ONLY. Are you planning to live in Japan?

      Hi and thanks for the great question! You need to supply 3 years worth of KAZEI and NOZEI certificates. (if you are married, then your spouse will also have to submit 1 year) Re: income, a quick search online suggests a minimum salary of 3 million JPY/year is needed (Roughly 27,000 USD) but the results are varied and other sites state that individuals with salaries below that amount have been granted visas in the past. However, looking at the official Immigration Services Agency site, it seems this number is NOT public information and that people are getting this mixed up with other visas such as the 高度学術研究分野 visa or 高度経営・管理分野 visa which DO work on a point system and have a minimum salary requirement. (source: www.immi-moj.go.jp/newimmiact_3/pdf/h29_06_point-hyou.pdf) Best of luck!

    • @MWFE
      @MWFE  4 года назад +1

      Not sure I understand you quite right but here I go! If you are just interested in selling stuff in Japan while living outside Japan, you do not need a visa. A visa is permission to live/work in a country besides the one you are a citizen of. If you want to live in Japan while maintaining your online business, the process is pretty much the same but you will need to supply (a) 確定申告書控えの写し which very roughly translates to a copy of your tax returns and (b) 営業許可書の写し which roughly translates to a certificate of permission to work. This is where thing get a little hairy. Do you have permission to work in Japan? If not, you will have to apply for a 経営管理ビサ which roughly translates to a Management Visa. This will involve a lot of other paperwork. This being said, it appears the scope of this depends on the type of business you are in. Good luck!

    • @MWFE
      @MWFE  3 года назад

      Hi buddy. You can stay in Japan for ten years by getting a work visa. Work visas are one kind of visa and they have different term limits like 1 year or 3 year or 5 year. If you do not have a work visa or other visa (spouses have different visas) then you can only stay in Japan legally for 90 days. This 90-day visa is a tourist visa and you get it upon arrival in Japan. Hope that helps!

    Thank you for the video, it was very informative !
    If I may, I have a couple of questions I would like to ask as I've researched everywhere and couldn't get a clear answer.
    I'm currently a 3rd year university student here in Japan and am only paying health insurance,
    and am not paying any other taxes as I don't have any jobs and I also applied for exemption for 年金.
    I've searched online everywhere about the number of years required to apply, and they all said a consecutive 10 years with a minimum of 5 of those being from a work visa.
    I'm on a student visa right now and upon graduation will have lived in Japan in 5 years, so does that mean I'll only have to work for another 5 years to be able to apply?
    Also regarding the word 'consecutive', some sites state that one cannot be outside of Japan for more than 90 days within any given year or your progress will be reset.
    In my case last year because of the pandemic the Japanese government wouldn't let me in so I was away for 6 and a half months.
    But other sites instead state that it's 180 days, I've also seen some sites say 200 days.
    So regarding this, do you know the actual maximum number of days allowed to be outside of Japan without getting your progress reset,
    and whether in my case would 2020 be reset to my first year, or would that be 2021 instead, or would they consider my case an exception ?
    Sorry for the long question !

    • @MWFE
      @MWFE  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I want to follow up on this. Have your questions been answered? Are you still looking to apply for a permanent visa? You will need to have lived in Japan for somewhere between 7 and 10 years. I only had 7 years but I was not only married to a Japanese citizen but employed by a local company who even went so far as to write me a letter of recommendation. Without such qualifications, getting your permanent resident visa will be very hard until you have lived here for 10 years. Don't worry to much about the consecutive thing. I was out of Japan for over a year and was still granted a visa.

I'm considering applying for PR this year so just wondering do you need a guarantor if you are not married? And what type of person would be a good candidate? • @MWFE
      @MWFE  4 года назад

      Sorry this took me so long. I was unsure of how best to answer. There are 4 possible paths to getting a permanent residence visa. They are listed here: www.moj.go.jp/ONLINE/IMMIGRATION/16-4.html Underneath 必要書類等 , number 6 (立証資料). If you are married, 1 makes the most sense. If you are not, follow the instructions as laid out in the path that best applies to you. Long story short though, any Japanese person or person with a permanent residence visa can be your guarantor! (Hooray!) The place you work will not be your guarantor. It must be an individual.

I would work outside the country for 4-6 months each year. I work on ships.
    I also have family in Japan that are nationals such as my grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins. My mother is Japanese but I'm an American citizen. I've been wanting to live in Japan for a long time but I just don't know how to go about it.

      @MWFE  4 года назад

      This is a tough one. Do any of your relatives in Japan own a business? If so, maybe they can hire you for a job that involves "going to a Japanese language school, traveling, watching baseball, and learning Judo". You would then get a work visa and stay for the entire time it's valid. Note: This is only my advice as a non-professional! Please take the time to research this on your own and do not rely solely on my advice for your decision. The other option I see is to just come as a tourist. Tourist visas are valid for 3 months and allow you to do everything you mentioned. I say, come to Japan about 3 months before your job "on a ship" starts, stay for three months, go work on the ship, then come back to Japan for 3 months. This takes care of 3/4 of the year and you get to spend half of it in Japan no questions asked plus you don't need to worry about any job/legal stuff (most likely) Good luck!

      @@AetherCarl Interesting. Ok, have a look here: eijyu-jp.com/faq/re-entry/ it looks like anything within 1 year is totally OK for all PR holders, and up to 2 years in special cases. (特別永住者) Thanks for the great question! I learned something today.
