  • (Filmed July 11, 2024) So after the z-train my mom and I went off to a nearby eatery to cool off before coming here to W. Elkhorn Boulevard for UP 4014 Big Boy on its Westward Bound Tour. UP 4014 began its tour June 30 at Cheyenne and worked its way towards California making several stops along the way including Portola, Oroville and then Roseville. While in Portola it picked up UP 1983 the Western Pacific Heritage Unit which swapped out another locomotive to represent the aforementioned railroad as it went along the Feather River route. I had to face some adversity today with the triple digit heat as my phone overheated twice while waiting out here. Considering this was obviously a steam locomotive I was expecting a lot of people to show up along the route. As 4014 got closer more folks started showing up and it wasn’t long before it finally made it past my location. This is my first time seeing UP 4014. The symbol for this train is PSCRV. This crossing owned by Union Pacific is a mixed install with the close signal being a late 2010s install and the left signal being early to mid 2010s install with changes to the bells.
