    I am 58 and I have trained in S.K.I.F., Maine, USA since, 2000. I have always been curious about Gojyu-ryu. Seems more real-world or rather efficient than Shotokan. I love Kuri-obi world with the way you show different disciplines. Thank you Sir.

      Looks to me like most of the applications they are showing can be found in Shotokan and Wado as well, you just need to know where to look. You are correct about Kuro-Obi, it is a great channel. I hope director Nishi makes more karate oriented movies.

    I trained in Meibukan Goju Ryu in the 1960's when it was more classical, under Anthony Mirakian Sensei. No sparring and not much one step combinations, a lot of Katas. I have noticed and glad that the younger generation have modernized it and adapted it to the real world.

    • @marcelorp
      @marcelorp 3 месяца назад +1

      Sorry, but sparring and others stuffs, is not a modernization. It was expected even on traditional way. Probably your Sensei removed it from any reason and that's why we have a lot of "black belts" that has no power/energy on their bodies, why some people loves a lot and others hate it as much as possible. There is no real control about who can reach a black belt and become a Sensei, causing a lot of discrepancies even inside same Karate style.

    I thought this demonstration was very impressive. I did see some techniques that reminded me of the Chinese southern style called Hung Gar, the cat stance and sudden close in attacks with the open palm, in addition to the powerful elbow strikes.

  • @user-xu1mg1vm9e
    @user-xu1mg1vm9e Месяц назад

    I too have trained at Anthony Mirakian's dojo in 1969-70 and in the 1980's, the training here is exactly like we did back then. A novice practitioner would not recognize the benefits of such training. You must remember that the basic step in and punch is for those on their first day of training as well as those who have practiced for years. Sharpening your reflexes to this extent takes years, reading body language before the attack is an art. I believe sparring is important, but you will not get this type of experience by just sparring. LEO for 30 years, trust me when I say this.

    • @marcelorp
      @marcelorp 3 месяца назад

      Não é só o jovem, não. Acredito, inclusive, que muito do que o Karate vive hoje ao redor do mundo, é por ter aberto as pernas para qualquer um virar faixa preta por tempo de treino e não por real eficiência, dom, e outras características realmente importantes, que acabaram por fazer qualquer um se intitular Sensei após pegar a preta e treinar outros sem o mesmo comprometimento e fidelidade aos reais ensinamentos do Karate. Basta ver a quatidade de faixa preta de karate no MMA e em competições que não possuem o mínimo de potência e força em seus corpos e golpes para que realmente pudessem ser considerados como faixas-pretas.

    Hello, as karate practioner I must comment this bunkai presentation : the defensive techniques applied here as -as such - valid, but....unfortunately the attacks presented here, happen NEVER the way many karate styles present . For demonstration purposes these styles have selected this format. Because it gives much better chances to demonstrate the defense.
    NO ONE EVER steps the back leg ahead like done in all these bunkais. The attack is super slow and gives for defender huge amount of time to choose the defensive option.
    This is one reason why karate has lost lot of credibility among real fighting techniques.
    Thats very sad because Okinawan styles are prisoners of their great tradition and history. And not been able to adapt themselves to the reality of free fighting or street self defense.
    So its better to warn that based on these demos no one test their skills in real situations. That can end very badly.
