  • Back out there and the fish have been hungry. Pink snapper are everywhere and my smaller close in spots are firing. An assume mixed bag to kick off the season.
Red Emperor, Rankin Cod, Crimson Snapper, Scarlet Seaperch, Pear Perch, Pink Snapper, Goldband Snapper, and many more including an uncommon one for us with a few Javelin Fish.

Those fish were scarlet sea perch or largemouth nanny, also known as saddletail.
They are the larger of the 2 species.
The small mouth nanny, or crimson snapper is the other, not the one you guys caught.

After you fillet them why do you snap off the part that’s like it’s chin?

They are called the fish wings, some people say they are the best bit. fry up or chuck on bbq and eat the fish off the bone just like a chicken wing.

Hi, We mark them so we know whose fish they are at the end of the day. Everyone had a different type of mark.
