The first time I heard this song as a kid I thought the middle bit was too long, I now understand that it's there in order to save bass players of the world from getting tendonitis.... 😂
I don’t know how Harris does not have it. He’s not human !!!!!
Im 46, & Powerslave was my first album this song was always my favorite & never too long for me.
This is a test of stamina!
Might be ;)
Try Phantom the Opera or Powerslave. My arm still has nightmares.
been 3 years, can play the song note for note, but can never get through the entire thing because my forearm gives out 😅
This song and Orion from Metallica got me into the bass at age 14. I am now 45 and still playing. It's too bad Cliff is not with us him and Steve would be jamming together as titans of heavy metal bass.
This is part of the why Steve Harris is the greatest metal bass player of all times! His sound is unmistakeable, his playing is exciting and his creativity both playing and as a writer have no match. PS: your videos are a treat to watch!
Thanks mate ;)
15 dislikers carry the albatross on their necks
Yup, I like the comparison ;)
Steve Harris would be extremely proud! I'm not sure he could play it as clean and accurate as you! You Sir are a bass god! May God bless you!
Thank you so very much ;)
It's funny how the the sound of fingers sliding over the strings ends up being such a big part of expressing the creaking of the boards of the ship.
I never took it anywhere really, but Steve Harris inspired me to play bass. Thumbs up for showing the world!
My pleasure, cheers ;)
Those 15 haters must not like Iron Maiden. Seriously. Iron Maiden is the best band ever.
If Steve should have a righthandache at some gig, I authorize you to fit in the bassplayer's role, fans won't be disappointed.
So good. Damn if that ain't as close to the recording as possible. Must be the greatest relief ever when the slow part comes along. I wish I learned with my fingers instead of a pick (started on pop punk), I don't think I'll ever get my dexterity to this degree.
Hey, cheers ;) It depends of your morphology and also practice. DG
Great job Didier you had the guts to cover it all, from the 7.49 mark onwards I literally cried, that solo from Smith the subsequent double melody still sends chills down my spine to this very day. Horns up!!!!!
My favorite Maiden song, & likely my favorite song in general! As a kid when the album was new loved listening to this from Piwerslave or Live after Death driving around in the back of my step-dad's Camaro with a sound system (for the day). Maiden really fueled, my live for history, poetry, & even science fiction as I always researched their lyrics this was well before Google.
Perfect bass cover, as all the others you have uploaded until now! Extra credit for this one, because it is extra long song, and the bass line is very difficult to play all-in-one-time. I mean, 14 minutes of continuous finger galloping is not so easy when you try it...! Congratulations Didier..!
Well here I go picking up my bass again, Great job!
Good news ! Cheers !
When I was younger I tried to play songs like this on the bass, but wasn't able to do so! Today I'm happy to see videos like this one, playing so perfectly! I guess someone must have a kind of "superpower" to play like Steve Harris!
Cheers ;) No superpower, just the power of practice
No, you’re wrong Gerome. It’s tech make I could never use that third finger while playing the bass with my fingers, to do that gala that Harris does. Is that what you’re doing you’re using three fingers? You pulled this off flawlessly. I’ve never seen anyone, but Harris do it as well. 👍
harris uses 2 fingers @@chrisk920
We didn't have youtube videos.....just grainy VHS tapes......made us better players though IMO
This is absolutely superb! I've watched this many times (and your other videos on the 'difficult part' and Steve's technique). You are total class and a maasive help in trying to nail this epic bass line. Many thanks!
You're welcome.
My pleasure to help ;)
DG
You have the best Iron Maiden covers on RUclips, great job sir!
Il pezzo più bello che' abbia composto Harris in tutta la sua carriera e tu come sempre sei stato MAGISTRALE!!! Le tue Cover sono uniche e senza eguali...numero uno!!!
Grazie mille ;)
One of the longest songs ever...and more difficult Maiden songs (endurance!) ..but most beautiful ones..indeed!!
One of my first loved Irons songs...

Masterpiece, the Tone! the song, the absolute physical workout must be exhausting, I can’t imagine playing a 2 hour set like this. You have skill my friend.

DG
I remember playing this with my old band, memories. Great job!
Love it. Great cover. You nailed it.
Absolutely perfect 👌
Thanks ;)
Didier, mes compliments, cette cover est parfait!!
Excellent theme musical, this song talk about the story of a ancient mariner that in the night him enter in trance and the bass electric was mention at the agony that him supported over night; sometimes I thought that is a story similar at the of the holandez flew.
Should to have been terrible navigator only in the sea for the night and it's incredible that music has a sound special with very feeling by whichever that is hearing.
Thanks for upload and share for all, that electric bass sound to glory man.
Wram regards !
Yo no suelo hacer esto, pero tengo que decirte que es increíble, impresionante bro... sobretodo la parte del puente....de verdad un capo!!!
My fav Iron Maiden jam!!
Hollowed be thy name
Pure PERFECTION!!
Thanks ;)
Super job. I can’t imagine being able to keep up with this song all the way through.
Yes you can, practice makes permanent ;)
What a champ owning such a masterpiece!
Cheers ;)
Love your channel. Been interested in picking up the bass and your channel is really making that turn into an urge. :)
Cheers mate. Check out my other covers and tutorials on this very playlist.
Nossa!!! Você toca a música toda como se deve ser tocada, íntegro e sem alterações. Parabéns!
Obrigado ;)
Great job as always Didier!
Thanks ;)
Dude, how do you do it? I’ve been playing for 25 years and I think I’m pretty damn good. I cannot make it through this song without becoming completely exhausted and my forearms cramping up. I just can’t do it. I don’t know how Harris does it at his age while running across a 90 foot stage, well don maestro. Mad respect on my end!👍😎
I don't wanna be that guy but maybe you're overestimating your skills. I'm 18 years old and play bass since 2022 and can play this song just fine besides for the fast part right before the slow part @@chrisk920
Thats a pretty tough one. Very well played.
Thanks;)
One of my faves to play on the bass
Can you play it like this though?
Salutes from México, you are great!!!! Thanks for this video
Thank you very much ;)
Awesome, I absolutely love this song. You nailed it 👌🏻👍🏻

Le va a salir fuego al bajo y los dedos. Impresionante 👏👏👏👏👏

Excellent playing Didi.!
Cheers ;)
Another awesome job. Best Maiden song
Thanks ;)
Great, great bass-playing!
Cheers ;)
Whoa man. Awesome cover .love from India♥️♥️
4:28 is full gallop! Bravo!!
It's not gallop but sixteenth notes. But thanks anyways ;)
is it normal to feel like crying with such a great song? I must have a great connection with the song, because it touches my heart directly, and many songs do that to me, mainly from Iron Maiden.
Hey Nathan, sure it is. They get involved very deep in their lyrics and put their hearts in them. So maybe you're empathic enough to vibe with them. Or perhaps you were a mariner in a former life and you killed the bird of good omen. haha.
Take care.
DG
I feel the same about this song and many others of Iron Maiden. It's my best band in the world!
Amazing cover! I always find it interesting how Steve's bass lines are less complex, and are more endurance based. Also, I subscribed!
Cheers ;)
Love it
This is amazing 👏
Cheers ;)

Tight!!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks ;)
Every time I hear and try to play that part at 4:28 I'm just like ok guess I'm gonna sell my bass hahahah
LOL, you can see it more in details here:

Untouchable and amazing!
Thanks
I will tell you some thing, I don’t know what country you live in, but you’re probably the only one living there that could be a shoe wind for a high end, maiden tribute band
MAGNIFICENT!!!
Cheers ;)
Wow. Godly. Just awesome....
Thanks ;)
I like so much this theme.
Uo the iron !!!
Muito bom!
Perfect tone

Don't know if someone noticed, but that part at 3: 30 - 3:50 is used on guitar in "Caught somewhere in time"
Never noticed.
3:30 I have another song with this riff (the sing is the same from this bass line) but I can't find it anymore

Soy guitarrista, pero vaya... Ahora creo que quiero un bajo Jajajajaja... ¿Ese instrumento es una edición especial verdad? Sos un genio, excelente ejecución. Abrazo desde Argentina.
Pásate al lado oscuro del bajo! 😏😆
bárbaro ! ! !
Your technique is more cleaner than steve's. Wow. Congratulations.
toujours cette technique parfaite
I was waiting for either the strings or your hands to explode. Well fucking done brother. Making Steve proud
LOL, cheers mate ;)
He’s not human, he doesn’t feel pain, remorse, and he will not stop! You have to have forearms made out of titanium to be able to pull this off!!!!
well done dude
Witaj!Prawie prawie.😄🤘
holy fk dude...mad skill. cheers from alberta beach, alberta canada
My pleasure ;)
Seriously are your forearms and fingers just completely exhausted by the end? Please tell me they are you’re not human if they’re not. I can’t believe you play as well as Harris.!!!!
Can you do to tame al land? Awsome work man!
Thank you. I did To tame a land twice:

Tu as maintenant un nouveau fan au Québec. Wow! Belle performance.
Up the Irons.
Bienvenue alors ;) J'ai hâte d'y retourner (au Québec)
Very Good!!
Cheers mate ! ;)
Hell yeah.
Man, you did it great. As a former guitarrist, (who used to try and fingerpick bass lines on an acoustic guitar) I see two major difficulties to play the bass lines of this song. The first one is to keep the gallop going well during the whole track. The second is to keep the slow part of the track on the beat (those #5 chords). You showed true endurance to sustain the alternate fingerpicking on your right hand and yet making the bass line sounding great. Steve Harris was a fucking animal on his bass, and yet sounded so melodical. Thumbs up, man! Cheers, from Goiânia-GO/Brazil.
Obrigado !
I created some tutorials as well:

@ thanks for the tip man, you rule! Keep on rocking!
Steve Harris IS a fucking animal, not was…
@@semerson8978 I meant... when he recorded the track, that's why I used was.
Kick ass. If you find yourself in the USA (Boston) I would love to have you play with my band Aces High New England. :)
Cheers mate ;)
Are you looking for a bassist ? Any link to see you live ? Thanks for the comment 😁
Harris = god
I've been meaning to get one of those Steve Harris basses....
Hey Matt, you'll need patience for those who have it stick to it. ;)
You are Great as Always !!!! Thank You ! PLEASE give us a performance of TAILGUNNER some day... There is not a decent cover . It would shine crystal clear through You ! Thanks again !
Cheers, I'll think about it ;)
Tu assures !
