The book was so much sadder, charlie was smiling, he refused to have the hood over his head, and he sang when he died. Also Tommo wasn't there, he was somewhere in a stable I think, and when he came out of wherever he was crying the whole camp was saluting Charlie out of respect, and it was adorable, none of this happened in the film :(
He was outside but he wasn't present during the sentence. He imagine what's happening and he sings because he imagines that's what Charlie would be doing as Charlie said he would sing that. He was right with all his predictions

i hated the film it took away every thing immersive from the book and takes away the strength of the characters this film is a boring old normal war film but the book is great its a must read

I think the film made Charlie a bit of a pratt compared to Charlie in the book. he chose to abandon Molly and he wasn't as kind to Tommo either. Plus he wasn't as brave as book Charlie.

This goes to show how horrific the World Wars were (any others were and still are) but to court martial someone. To tie your own men to a pole and have them shot is a disgrace. There was huge losses of lives over war. There was people who even thought killing the enemy was wrong, and I will be damned if I hear a single one of the soldiers say that they loved the war, and they loved killing but here they were killing their own men.

For one he was implying he was crying, 2, The movie has this wrong in the book it clearly states Tommo was not there and Charlie showed no fear he just sang oranges and lemons. >_< Ruined the whole experience for me

Is it bad that I cry every time I watch this film or read the book? It's certainly a favourite story of mine. However I find the book sadder, because of course the entire story is described in more detail and the ending is far sadder. Also it annoys me how they make Charlie seem afraid in the film, when in the book he was brave and smiling and singing.
I remember reading this book for school and I almost cried because of the ending i found the ending so sad and emotional, now watching this scene. made the book not even harder now. One of the best books I’ve ever read

If you looked closely, tommo was imagining that.
he wasn't there he was imagining the whole thing but some people said that they saw him smiling and singing something before he dies

Tommo wasn't with him he imagined Charlie would sing it so he sung it and they both ended up singing but Tommie was at the camp when Charlie was getting shot.

ITS SO STUPID! The book is AMAZING!!!!!!😱😢 and the film is so bad he didn't even sing Oranges and Lemons of Saint Clements or whatever it is at the end. Did they improvise this scene or something?I read this in class and my class is really noisy but everyone was so quite when we were reading it. I cried in class when Tommo said "Bye Charlie" and I set all the girls off😂

movies are always different than the book, i.e harry potter books ect and hunger games. i havent read the book because im not a reader like i used to be. so, yes... i did enjoy this and no it is not shit from my point of view.
