Problem with what Frederic did was not fighting Gus, it was that he popped him twice when he was prone on the ice after the first obvious knockout punch. That’s cheap, that’s against the code. You could see Zadorov say to Lowry after their fight “I know” meaning he knows what Frederic did was wrong. Renny is completely way off on his point, Frederic had the choice to fight Stanley. He was on the ice. It didn’t have to happen right after the faceoff it could’ve waited 3 more seconds to yell hey Stanley let’s go.
I never would have thought at the beginning of the season, that heinola stanley and fleury would all pull in to the same game without significant injuries (Samberg injury aside) I really liked all 3 of them this night.
Jordan Greenway is a UFA at the end of the year. A guy like that on our line up checks a lot of boxes for a heavier game and policing games like yesterday….
Didn’t love the Gus fight. Hope he’s ok. I think it’s understandable Frederic and Boston was going to be looking for that the way the game went… but Stanley was on the ice. Good on Lowry and Stan for standing up for their teammate.
Tuning in late so I couldn't comment live. Renny, you're a smart hockey guy. I've learned alot from our days of talking hockey at our desks at CBC. But your Frederic argument is non-sensical. That strategy hasn't been useful in years, but because Boston is a throwback team it's good for them? All Frederic did was prove that he could one punch a lesser fighter and lose a game. It provided no spark to the Bruins. That leads to a pointless fight between Lowry and Zadorov that isn't even fight. It's 2 guys wrestling to avoid injuring each other. Who's next? Who cares? All it led to was a listless Bruins performance. The fights didn't help Swayman stop a puck. They didn't help counteract the Jets forecheck. There was only one message it sent - We can't compete but at least we can punch better and then feel bad about ourselves anyway losing big. It was pointless. To be clear, this is not an anti-fighting post. But fighting in this situation is dinosaur mentality.
Well said, the Renny's contrarian argument fell enormously flat. Mabye because he was right about not breaking up the third line he thinks he can invent the counter argument and be right just because.
@@SillySongs4Everyone2001 My goal is not to rip into Renny as a person or personality of the game. He has a MUCH smarter hockey mind then I do. I just think he's wrong on this one and wanted to jump in on a healthy debate. Kenny and Renny are the best post game in this market by a mile. I watch here regularly (although it's usually the next day) and think this show is great.
Here this market is, just weeks shy of celebrating Scheifele’s fight at the end of the Florida game and the role his teammates said in the media it played in their bounce back effort and suddenly the Bruins doing it is non-sensical. You are completely looking through this from a Jets lens. The Bruins know they aren’t winning that game. Messages can resonate beyond that game. Just like they did for the Jets and their bounce back effort vs FLA. Not referring specifically to you Justin but one of my favourite parts of this podcast is watching people’s opinions switch in whichever direction needed to fit the fans narrative. So Scheifele fighting = good. Frederic fighting = bad. Ehlers jumping out of his weight class and surviving = great. Gus doing the same = bad. I’ve got all day to discuss with folks my opinions. But when the vast majority of attacks come from people whose dedication to their argument begins and ends with which jersey the players wears, you learn pretty quickly the folks attack you when you’re not waving pom poms
That was quite the debate on the fighting and I have to say I don't agree with Renny at all on this one. Frederic as a veteran has to know that Gus isn't a fighter and going after him like that was wrong. He could have definitely asked Stan to go instead.
Fighting for the most part is a very small part in the game, hence why you seldom see them in the playoffs, but mental and physical strength is what wins, players will to get to the dirty areas and sacrificing their bodies, Jets I think need more of that type of player, as someone else has mentioned, Jordan Greenway would be a great option
Bottom six players better take notice of Chibby. Two games, two goals, drew two penalties. The guy produces in the NHL. Jets need a guy that likes to fight. You don’t want Lowry playing sheriff as he’s too valuable. Teams always take runs at the Jets and if Jets want to go places they need a beast.
The issue I have and probably as well the Jets have with Gusbus being knocked out by Frederic is he keeps punching him after he is already going down, dirty and cheap
Renny is in LaLaland on his Fredrick take. Maybe that line of thinking flew in the 80s when the league did not have enough skill to populate 4 lines, but today there is to much skill to be passing up for head punchers just so you can provide your opponent with enough fighting options should they feel the need to fight cause they are getting embarrassed on the scoreboard. Fredrick bullying had the opposite effect of what a bully wants. Instead of backing down we went out and score a couple of more goals. Gus should have pointed to the scoreboard laughed at him and skated away. This notion that you have to defend yourself fighting because you are winning the game is silly and archaic
Renny is a caveman. “What does Kostalic do?” So we have to have two guys that are ready to go that shift? You obviously don’t know what the code is. Even Zadorov knew it was crap. He took that fight because he knew Frederic was wrong. Worst take of the year.
Indeed, we need to get tougher (really miss Dilly!) but Fredric should have picked a better dance partner, and punching when a guy is already down is pathetic!
They didn't run up the score! Finishing plays isn't running up the score! Was Chibby supposed to shoot the puck in the corner? No, you finish the play. Never throw away a gift!
I understand fights after a bad/dirty hit but when a team is down 4-5 points it just seems pathetic that resort to fighting when they can't score a goal...
Not a fan of a guy who is a known fighter challenging a guy who has never fought. That’s a cowardly act and believe me the majority of his teammates don’t like it. It carries the risk of drawing them into a retribution fight. Frederic looked for that fight from the moment he left the bench for the face off. He seen it wasn’t 55 - because that would start a bench brawl. And fighting Namesnikov would look real bad because of the size difference. And fighting 17 could turn into a mistake. So he took the opportunity to bully the non-fighter Swede into having to defend himself. You didn’t see Kastilic quickly jumping on Heinola or Lowry taking retribution on Lindholm. Those two fights were guys who know the “code” and followed it. What Frederic did was a playground bully move that has absolutely no place in today’s game.
@@seanchuckreynolds Did he really have a choice?!? You are being bullied at center ice in front of a home crowd and your teammates. It’s a split second decision. Gus was pretty much forced to defend himself! Frederic is not new to this kind of BS and unfortunately Gus’s inexperience walked him right into his trap. It was simply…I want a pound of flesh for the beating we’re taking on the scoreboard and the only way I’m sure to get it is by bullying and goading a non-fighter into having to defend themself. No sense fighting 64 or 17…I might just get KO’d myself! Thankfully we Jets fans never have to witness our captain or friendly giant pull a BS chicken poop “fight” like that.
