I've climbed Fuji twice in the summer. For his sake, I hope he died quickly from hitting a rock and being knocked unconscious. Because Fuji is a cinder cone, and its surface is full of small razor-sharp rocks. When you climb, you need to wear gaiters to keep them from getting in your boots and just shredding your feet. It's by no means a difficult mountain to climb, but it is a 3776 meter tall dormant volcano. Sliding down it would be like sliding down the world's largest cheese grater. Blunt trauma is by far preferable to bleeding out because you have no skin anymore.
Oh wow, that’s terrible. Apparently he’d gone in the winter when it was extremely inadvisable that people climb the mountain due to there being more snow and ice in the colder months, but he still went knowing this fully.
@@jrhoadley Very much agree with this; I climbed Fuji as someone who has done hiking multiple times before, but not many altitude climbs. It was manageable during the climbing season given all the support, and provided you know how to deal with altitude sickness if you opt to 'speed climb' it (not advised), and the variable weather conditions (very cold on the night time climb, very warm on climbing down during the scorching summer day), its a mountain that can be climbed even by the elderly (i saw many Japanese elderly climbing it - albeit they took a number of days to by stopping in the pitstop houses). I took many precautions and planning, and still found myself miscalculating the amount of water I would need on the way down (particularly as there are water stations on the way up but none on the way down), and had to actively do a fast descent to avoid heat stroke Climbing in winter without proper gear is a recipe for disaster :/
Knowing that he had terminal cancer makes it a bit easier to me, as the 0-2min it took until he was dead was probably better than being on IV morphine whilst you die in sheer pain. I just hope he didn‘t have to suffer - saw people dying in pure agony for more than a year, so I hope that he was unconscious after the first heavy impact and could end his life in the best way. I just hope it was quick. Still sad knowing that 99.9% of us just want peace and love, but unfortunately a few have to go prematurely because fu… cancer 🥲

He had expressed his conviction that he would be cured and was not looking to die. On the other hand, he was living his life to the fullest and thought he could take the risk. He was unprepared for winter mountain climbing, but it is not up to us to judge him.
We are allowed to judge a moron who was ill-prepared for the dangerousness of the mountain. Many better people, smarter people, have died. So we are allowed to judge an idiot.

I find it absolutely terrifying that just before he fell, somebody put in the the live chat "he was a good man" (いい人だった). Nobody watching thought he'd actually die, and as such were just making jokes about how dangerous the situation was. Fucking hell.
Anyone watching knew that he was gonna die. C'mon man. Nobody believed that he would complete the journey all the way to the top and then back down again, unharmed. That became apparent several hundred meters before his fall. He was unprepared, unexperienced and set on doing it to the end.

Yea I saw the award announcement on insta,they were pretty harsh about a man who had stage 4 cancer and just wanted to live life to the fullest....I think they said he was awarded by them for dying in "an extraordinarily idiotic manner".....seems like they thought he was a young social media junkie and didn't even bother to read up on his backstory.

Я живу в Японии, и мать моего мужа умерла от рака. Муж мне рассказывал что она очень очень долго мучалась и молила о том, чтобы ее лишили жизни, но закон Японии не позволяет «избавлять от мучений» людей таким способом, по этому ей приходилось терпеть боль каждый день. С другой стороны: самоубийство причиняет очень много проблем родственникам: им прийдется платить кучу денег, да еще и репутация испортится. По этому пойти в горы вот так вот, без подготовки, и быть готовым умереть, зная что это засчитают как глупость и несчастный случай, весьма не глупо в его ситуации. Тем более такое место красивое... А еще и популярным стал посмертно...

He knew what he was doing.. Mt. Fuji is an infamous spot for suicide. And he had cancer. Maybe he wanted to go up there to spend the last minutes of his life, confessing his will to his viewers. Think about it, even if he succeeded and got on top of mountain, there was no way he could've gotten down. It was impossible with the lack of gears and equipments. He didn't need all of it because he knew he wasn't gonna carry it down. Things didn't go as planned, but the end result was probably what he had wanted in the beginning.

He was going to die from cancer in only a short time, and he knew he was well underequipped for the mountain. He didn't deliberately fall, but he definitely went out that day expecting to eventually have an accident that would take his life. This wasn't stupidity, this was bravery in the face of certain death.
@@justsomepleb4969 I learned a little bit more about the man since then. He went by the alias Tedzu, was in his late 40's, unemployed, and he may have been battling late stages of cancer. He went up there in street clothes and without any mountaineering gear. Any snowy mountain is potentially dangerous which is why it requires special equipment to mitigate risks. I don't know if the man had a death wish since he was already dying anyways or just didn't know any better. Possibly both. Still a sad case all around.
His body was found 1000m under there, 2 days after this happened. The sex of the body can't be distinguished because of heavy injury (but, obviously him).

I watched my mother die from cancer in a bed for a year and in my opinion it is one of the worst ways to go wasting away to nothing and in constant pain.

@@Haunt888 not really, as someone who have known close people who have recovered from life threatening heart issues, they have a much more positive aspect in life than before and are bound to take more risks. Its that they feel that life is precious and wants to experience it. This is strictly speaking from personal experiences and may not be true for everyone but its a thing to consider.
The day before yesterday a dead body was found vertically 700m below the top, meaning the victim fell down the rocky slope at least 1km or even longer. The body was extremely in bad condition, so it is still uncertain whether the victim is a man or a wo man. But from the situation, the body undoubtedly seems a part of him.
@@shabazhussain1576 Similar accidents happen every year in winter Fuji, and not all the victims can always be found. Of course I'm sure the body is his, but the official announcement has not been made. Maybe it's under DNA testing.
There's a reason the time to climb the mountain is August. In September you can see the mountain gaining snow and beyond that no one climbs for most of the year. It gets cold up there even during the summer and descending is already steep as heck. I slipped on my hindparts a few times on my way down
The lack of screaming or any signs of distress has me thinking this dude was well aware that this could likely happen, maybe even welcomed the downfall.
I guess it depends on a person, but as someone who dealt with LUCKILY NEAR death moment of my life, I can say I wasn't really screaming either. In my mind I was trying to take the control of the situation and was in shock too, Quiet as a mouse... many things went through my head and my eyes felt fear thinking "Is this the end?" No axe or anything to save himself. normally when you go up there you bind yourself to another person in a chain, so if someone fell of or anything happens they are still able to rescue them. Going alone in such a dangerous place is a suicide wish, nothinf more i can say. R.I.P.
@@bujebuje I only see trekking poles, which could work in a pinch, but are far from ideal to self arrest (if he even knew how). He also wasn't wearing crampons and his boots appear to just be generic hiking boots, not suited for snow, since he was having a hard time just keeping his balance.

@@nayQ123 A motorbike accident because the driver popped up right in front of me. I crashed into a car flying around it, straight into a tree. Luckily I somehow stopped right in front of it (it was really close). No-one was fatally hurt and my helmet saved me.

As I recall, it is about a 45 minute video. Why is the video so long? He was a RUclips live streamer. He would upload his "day in the life of" videos to his subscribers. As someone who never climbed Mount Fuji, I have to say that this was the most challenging thing I have ever done.

Грустно это.. Вот тут говорят про рак 4й степени, и про мучения от болезни, и меня теперь вводит в сомнения факт, что этот человек действительно не знал что делает. Я живу в Японии, и мать моего мужа умерла от рака. Муж мне рассказывал что она очень очень долго мучалась и молила о том, чтобы ее лишили жизни, но закон Японии не позволяет «избавлять от мучений» людей таким способом, по этому ей приходилось терпеть боль каждый день. С другой стороны: самоубийство причиняет очень много проблем родственникам: им прийдется платить кучу денег, да еще и репутация испортится.
По этому пойти в горы вот так вот, без подготовки, и быть готовым умереть, зная что это засчитают как глупость и несчастный случай, весьма не глупо в его ситуации. Тем более такое место красивое... А еще и популярным стал посмертно...

He knew what he was doing.. Mt. Fuji is an infamous spot for suicide. And he had cancer. Maybe he wanted to go up there to spend the last minutes of his life, confessing his will to his viewers. Think about it, even if he succeeded and got on top of mountain, there was no way he could've gotten down. It was impossible with the lack of gears and equipments. He didn't need all of it because he knew he wasn't gonna carry it down. Things didn't go as planned, but the end result was probably what he had wanted in the beginning.

He was going to die from cancer in only a short time, and he knew he was well underequipped for the mountain. He didn't deliberately fall, but he definitely went out that day expecting to eventually have an accident that would take his life.
This wasn't stupidity, this was bravery in the face of certain death.

@@justsomepleb4969 I learned a little bit more about the man since then. He went by the alias Tedzu, was in his late 40's, unemployed, and he may have been battling late stages of cancer. He went up there in street clothes and without any mountaineering gear. Any snowy mountain is potentially dangerous which is why it requires special equipment to mitigate risks. I don't know if the man had a death wish since he was already dying anyways or just didn't know any better. Possibly both. Still a sad case all around.

There's a reason the time to climb the mountain is August. In September you can see the mountain gaining snow and beyond that no one climbs for most of the year.
It gets cold up there even during the summer and descending is already steep as heck. I slipped on my hindparts a few times on my way down

No axe or anything to save himself. normally when you go up there you bind yourself to another person in a chain, so if someone fell of or anything happens they are still able to rescue them. Going alone in such a dangerous place is a suicide wish, nothinf more i can say. R.I.P.
