Thank you, I moved from Mangere East to Papakura in Feb this year I until this video I didn't know there was a museum! And it's just up the road! One thing I did learn when I moved here, is there is lots of everything, like the barbers you saw, not one or two, but heaps. And one thing I noticed that was different from Mangere, instead of being flooded with American burger joints, there's many many more and different ethnic food outlets instead, and their burgers are better. While Papakura is old and can do with a freshen up it does have everything.

I’m so glad you went to the museum! My brother and I used to work there about 5/6 years ago - he worked with the artefacts and in exhibition installation/maintenance/deinstallation, and I was the Education Coordinator/Host/Marketing person. I helped create those light boxes you filmed. And that tent area in the military gallery was where I ran school holiday activities and games, as well as where we hosted school visits.
Thank you for showcasing the awesome place ❤️

I've always liked Papakura: they don't have the usual chain store rubbish as the malls, with some real shops. You do get a bit of low-life activity but not so bad as Manurewa. That centre should be an interesting visit, lol. Looking forward to it Curls ❤

Papakura has some streets that are not so good and probablybest to steer clear of if you don't know the area, it also has some really nice areas. Mangere and Otara were traditionally the suburbs you avoided, but that tag moved to Manurewa/Clendon. Although, there are some nice areas in Clendon and Manurewa. I grew up in Mangere through the 70s, 80s, early 90s and have walked and played sport all over South Auckland. Compared to other places in the world, South Auckland is not that bad, just a few streets here and there can be problematic. And that is due mainly to suspicion of strangers. Nefarious activities take place in any suburb, most people are unaware its going on, even in affluent areas.

    • @charlottegrace6656

I've spent many a night out in downtown Auckland and have hardly ever run into any trouble. You have the odd idiot running around, and you may see the odd fight. Also, you need to come back and do a street art and food tour of Papakura!!! As a Japanese fan, you missed a trick walking past IZU. One of the best Japanese fine dining restaurants in Auckland. Go see Bun at Satay Noodle House for an epic Cambodian feed. Pop to Ishtar for authentic Iraqui food that'll blow your mind. The Broadway Foodhall for epic Smash Burgers witha Sam & Jamie as well as a variety of other yummies. Tumeric Flavours of India is the best Indian around. Wash down with craft beers at The Beer Spot or cocktails at Broadway Lounge. And that. And Teeta from Grounded Roots cafe is just gorgeous, that's a great spot for people watching over a cuppa.

Your reaction to all the barbers is hilarious; ultra thick curly hair needs more regular grooming - unless long hair, dreads, or twists etc are your thing. Add to that how well put together/styley Pacific Islanders have always been, you're always going to get a ton of barbers in highly concentrated Poly areas. Its the same here in the US in Af Am neighborhoods, there's a barber on every corner and you'd be hard pressed to find a local's hair looking anything but amazing :)

    • @Moneytane1976

I agree, we love our hair. In my case it gets real nappy as it lengthens and many of us brown people have like Black people hair rather than white people hair. Some are barbers basic and cheap, others are expesnive salons for ladies wanting colours, bobs, perms etc and some are ethnic aimed at Polynesians, Asians, Indians and even African hair braiding for a group of Negroes moving here.
