Matchbox world! What a great idea! Smart marketing for them. The automatic door and pizza delivery to outside is also cool! To be a kid in 2021! We didn’t have this kind stuff back in the 1970s when I was a kid. Although now I could afford one if I could find one! Lol!
Some other vehicles I would pair up with this set for added realism: The 1990s Matchbox Pizza Hut Super Rig and Pepsi Super Rig semi trucks. I would depict those trucks loading up the Pizza Hut restaurant for the day with deliveries for the ingredients for Pizza Hut pizzas (including Pan Pizzas and Stuffed Crust Pizzas) and deliveries for the various soft drinks from Pepsi (including Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Starry Lemon-Lime and Mountain Dew)...
I bought the hospital to display some model ambulances I had, but it's really toy-like and too small for what it is supposed to be. The Pizza Hut looks scaled rather close to 1/64, looks very well detailed, and not too toy-like. There are neither ramps in weird places, nor trap doors. Love the sole "play" feature of the delivery guy that pops out the front door. Reminds me of some old Lionel sets. I'm going to find avoiding buying this one hard. Every time I buy a playset for use as a display piece, I end up displaying it for a couple weeks, packing it away, then eventually giving it to some friend's kid. They are big compared to 1/87 scale buildings, but far cheaper, easy to assemble, and much less fragile. So far, the small compact footprint of the hospital has allowed it to stay up, and I will probably get the Pizza Hut too since it appears even smaller. I had bought the Target-exclusive Super Service Center a couple months back (since I had discounts that brought it down to about half price) for use as a diorama. Had to pack it up recently as I didn't have a proper place for it (it had been on a dresser). You say the price was $8.99? That is pretty much in line with what I paid for the hospital (I think closer to $10.99 from Target around the time they first came out with them), but I've seen the secondary market. Saw one for $60 just tonight. I figured, at that price, it was some guy's custom job before I found this video. I went ahead and put my email in for the reminder that it will be back in stock.
Nice! The Action Driver’s series are probably the most realistic 1/64 playsets you can get in the States, but when compared to some of the Asian playsets like Tarmac or Tomica, they are definitely more on the toy side. The retro Target set is awesome though - I like it a lot, even if it does look a little toy-ish. I don’t know why we can’t get more realistic looking sets from Matchbox or Wheels currently. Hot Wheels USA City sets from the 80s and their OG Sto-N-Gos had great graphics and looked more realistic in color and texture than a lot of the brightly colored, cartoony kids sets that are available now.
That does suck, but it happens with anything collectible sadly. I was lucky to stumble upon it from a friend, but adding your name to the email list on the site is probably a good way to try and snag one.
These are now being sold at retail. I just found the bus station and Pizza Hut at Fred Meyer (aka Smiths Marketplace or Kroger in other parts of the country). It looked like fresh stock. 3 bus stations and just 1 Pizza Hut per case, so they are still relatively limited.
Nice! I’ve heard some people have found them at CVS too, but I still haven’t seen them anywhere. My area isn’t stocked the greatest right now though. Great to hear actual retail releases are being found because these sets are too cool to only have a small supply of!
Finally found it at Big Lots for 10 dollars behind all the other car stuff. I was so thrilled. Even if I don’t get the action series sets this was something I really wanted because it reminded of the 1980s. Btw I have a matchbook from Pizza Hut from the 1980s.
Haha oh yeah - we have Sbarros in a few Ohio malls still! For some reason I can picture a Sbarro pizza semi truck diecast in my head but I can’t find one online…but a Tower Records would have been cool too. The classic Pizza Huts and Book It! program were elementary school gold lol
@@64Wheels I have a Lucky grocery store delivery truck still sealed in its package that I’m willing to bet was a Lucky exclusive like the Dollar General exclusives. Evidentially the last Lucky grocery store will be closing this coming month. They were absorbed by Albertsons when they purchased their stores and then sold their old stores to Ralph’s who ran them into the toilet and those closed. Then Albertsons & Save Mart merged and now looks like Kroger & Fred Meyer got them. Sam are the unopened from the 90s getting harder to find?
I only ask about the 90s stuff because I remember that era so well like it was yesterday and when yuh showed us that school bud I think I recall seeing them in a store called Mervyn’s or Best which went under after the 90s.
A lot of the 90s stuff isn’t too hard to find, but it is becoming more collectible as collectors ages change and they buy stuff for their childhoods - it was redlines, then blackwalls, now much of the 90s stuff, even early 2000s, is on the come-up!
They are pretty dope - if you have a Meijer’s Store or CVS/WalGreens nearby I know I’ve seen them there too. It was an online exclusive but they released them to some retail stores which is good news!
I can’t wait to get my hands on this set, still need the bus stop, a pit stop station? (Not super station). And this baby, I’ll get my hands on those soon, hopefully 😅.
I actually found one there the other day too! I’m glad this set became a regular release as it was commanding close to $75 over the holidays last year!
It is! We need more licensed playsets. Like the Wal-Mart Hot Wheels playset from the early 90’s, and the branded dealership playsets they had as well. I’d love to see some modern dealerships, stores like a Target, and licensed gas stations to go along with this set.
hi 64Wheels can we use Hotwheels cars with Matcbox Playsets, Id like to get the Pizza Hut too and the Offroad and Airport and Car Dealership to use with my Hotwheels 1986 Toyota Van.
Oh yeah - I park every brand of diecast with my playsets, even old and new from all different makers. The Toyota Van is a great casting! I picked up the tan version the other day too.
@@64Wheels Please do a video of the Toyota Van with all the Matchbox Playsets, can the Pizza Hut the red Delivery Top piece for the car fit on the Toyota Van?
Yeah the prices are a bit crazy since it’s sold out. According to a Pizza Hut rep they won’t be released retail, but they should have another release at some point on Pizza Hut’s online store.
According to Pizza Hut they are an online exclusive only and won’t be sold retail, so their website is the only place they have been available so far. The packaging is a bit different than normal retail Action Drivers, so I tend to think they may not hit retail.
I read somewhere they were selling only 1,000 for Christmas but they were going to be released with the rest of the sets i.e the dealership, the transit center etc sometime in January.
Yeah they were sold out after the first couple of days - just keep your eyes on the website and enter your email address into their website updates list so hopefully you’ll get notified when they go back on the site.
Yeah I mention that in the video that their are sneak peeks of the 2022 sets that include a car dealer, bus station, off-road center, and a construction site playset. Should be another good year for the playsets!

Those 90a trucks still look so good too. There’s something about those Super Rigs/Convoys that have just aged so well
@@64Wheels I most certainly agree!
Glue a tiny magnet in the car sign to stick to virtually any HW/MBX car! 😃⚡️
I saw them at Big Lots , yesterday
I love it 😍
I could drive my Ninja Turtles Van to the Pizza Hut for Michelangelo to pick up his pizza!
