I hate the idea that people who are willingly and desperately trying to land an animal they cannot care for in a safe place getting into legal trouble for it. I understand that there's weather, disease, size and safety factors that make a drop box situation way less feasible for the humane society but prosecuting people trying to surrender animals will just lead to more animals suffering. There has been a historic number of dogs getting put into shelters all over after the plan-demic. It makes complete sense they are starting to have time limits. And maulings too.
Here are the numbers, I have been keeping passive track of their population:
Forgot what I typed originally but I think was in Waco, Texas's shelter:
      320-ish? Dogs in my shelter
344-I think. Dogs in my local shelter
365 dogs in my local shelter.
Then it steadily rose to 375 dogs
After begging the public for help on facebook it dropped down to 364 dogs in the shelter rn. Also asking for cages-kennels-people to foster. (I also suspect sending some out of state)
      9-3-24: 340 Dogs.
(Not even mentioning the dogs dumped or ended by their own owners. Some broken glass in their food is how we do it in mexico.)
For context 60-100 dogs was what it was in the past, as we liked to see what dog breeds came through from time to time I noticed the numbers stay in the 100s, which quickly got to the 200s. After the wu-flu it has never dropped below 300. At least the times I would check. Keeping them alive for what exactly? Our fweelings?
Try to be understanding that these are fighting stock dogs. ( In my opinion 100% should go to heaven. Being kept in a cage, does an animal no good. We can see that suffering with zoo animals. )
Gia and Sue Sternberg canine behavior review on youtube is brutal and to the point. That these dogs that cant pass the temperment test, are the mutilators of children and life enders of weaker pets. Its stressful to keep them contained, like a prison guard their whole life. And Fifth Estate already exposed the pitbull lobby/shelters.

The shelter was recently renovated though and it's still going to be a shelter despite the dispute between the two parties. Read the article for more info as it does detail some of the disputes.

The city-not the Humane Society-controls animal intake, which is where many of the problems arise. The city and the Humane Society weren’t working well together because of these issues. I’ve fostered 20-30 animals with them over the years. The Humane Society handled the front end and foster and volunteer programs, while the city managed intake, vet care, etc. Unfortunately, the Humane Society had no say over intake decisions, and even dropping off a foster dog required an appointment two weeks in advance. (Even if the foster dog was attacking your personal dogs... it was a MESS). My guess is that they wanted Ben's infi as part of their SNF program, in which they have you hold the dog for a few days before they can be intaken.

My first dog my family got for me was from the ASPCA near Plano, TX. A man was trying to drop off his dog there because they were moving to a smaller home and didn't want to keep the dog in a crate. My mom was talking to this man and told him that we had a large yard and would love to take him home.
The ladies working behind the desk at the ASPCA were furious with us and kicked us all out because we stopped him before he donated the dog, this not allowing them to make their commission based on weight, (he was a big ole' chunker).

Whenever someone criticizes the way you are doing this, tell them they can either volunteer to clean out pens for a week and see what really goes on or STFU. Two choices. @@missdenisebee I'm so sorry for your loss. The worst part is we don't even know what was wrong with him. He started having trouble breathing so we brought him in and he was put in an oxygen chamber and stayed overnight. He got x rays and was diagnosed with asthma and sent home with steroids. They said we should get an inhaler but we need to go to our regular vet which we wouldn't we able to do for a while bc of labor day. The steroid seemed to do nothing and honestly when they sent him home his breathing didn't sound any different but I gave it a couple days. He didn't improve so we brought him in again and the vet said it's possible it could be more than asthma but the only way to test for an infection is to see if his white blood cell count is high. However not every infection even shows up in the blood tests so it seemed pointless. We did test for heart disease and that was negative. They said he could be sent home with antibiotics and if he didn't improve in a few days he'd probably needed to be put down. My family and I honestly didn't think the antibiotics would do anything and we didn't want him to suffer more. We also could barely afford these vet trips. We had gone 3 times to the emergency vet until they finally diagnosed the cancer in my other cat so that was thousands.

If you lower it's weight in the evening to prepare for a morning hunt, and there is a cold snap, that bird could be dead when you wake up. Most falconers I've spoken with recommend a red tail instead, or where it's legal a Harris's hawk

The people are the hardest part of any rescue. You're doing great and thank you for taking the dog.
Also...I love the vultures for some reason. My son and I call them Bernie and Biscuit. Not sure why.

Yeah, I agree these shelters are a problem all across the country. I use to rescue on my on dime, but too old as have eight that I kept as my own. I want to volunteer, but our local shelters are problematic and I have a big mouth. 😳🤪☹️🤬

This channel has been great to watch so far. I really like that you're more upfront about what you do and deal with. Honestly, I love and adore animals, but I wouldn't have the patience to deal with people like you do. That and I'm probably too soft to handle the realities with the animals. Thank you so much for doing what you do. Rehabbing is a hard job and not given enough credit.

Those owls are so cool. Some of them almost look mechanical with their eyelids. Crazy!

I love that you’re sharing the negative stuff that’s normal for animal rescue. It’s important to know

I do have to thank you for showing all the real parts of saving animals. Like how you can't save them all. I already knew that, and understand death is a part of things. Its just really nice to see one of these shows or channels or whatever show the reality of the situation, and not just the touching moments.
