The president of water cooling gives the "State of the Linux Gaming" address. Love this idea.
@@manuelhernandez2017 Not a great idea but an exceptional idea. A no brainer idea!
Well the repetition of the phrase "linux graphical perfomance sucks" won't be entertaining.
Linux gaming is not a good idea in general, even natively optimized. X server is a big bloaty mess that nobody knows how to neatly re-think and save the compatability, since the whole concept is kinda fucked(that's the reason why it doesn't really matter what x server u are using xorg or any other) , and that's the reason why wayland exist. It is also a reason why Mac OS gaming is not a good idea as well, since their Quartz as far as i am concerned saves pretty much the same infrastructure and just expands on it(but i am not a mac os dev so don't quote me on that)
Linux gaming is going too fast, it would be better like every couple months

This is the year! This is the year Linux gaming takes off! -every Linux fan ever since 1998
I've been using Linux professionally for a very long while -- servers and stuff, and if you think that would make me less reluctant to want to try Linux, you'd be very wrong, I have a catastrophic series of experiences with Linux desktops... But holy excrement, Steam really makes running games ridiculously easy. Install OS, Install Steam snap from store, install game (s). You don't even have to go download Steam by yourself - package manager does it for you...
sad but true
Well... I did played Unreal Tournament 2004 on Linux, and was great.
on one side you're right on the other it does feel different this time linux has actually gotten to the point or has nearly gotten to the point of being good enough to truly start competing
@@watcheths Really? I've had far more catastrophic experiences with windows. My response to something broken on linux is usually "I'm sure I can find an easy solution somewhere". On windows it usually ends up with "Fuck it time for a new install."
Yay for Anthony. I'm glad someone is actually talking about Linux.
Manjaro is awesome, really started to like this as an easy to use and more stable Arch Linux variant, and it feels extremely polished too.
People should not be afraid of Linux, especially if they're moderately technically versed under Windows, because it's actually not too dissimilar in Linux - especially with similar desktop environments (loving KDE nowadays. Really came a long way since the rewrite a few years back!). The terminal is a great and mighty tool, but you don't really have to know it. There's a plethora of graphical tools nowadays that work just as easy like under Windows, or even easier in a lot of cases (packet managers are awesome!). And if you have to use it, there are usually plenty of guides out there that lead you through each and every step, no biggy. If there are common steps you can or want to take with the terminal, then you simply learn it over time, until it becomes second nature.
Game compatibility has been steadily increased, and I think a lot of people would be very surprised how many of their games would run under Linux. Most of them even out of the box, or just with minor tweaking. The only downside here are new Windows exclusive titles, because if they aren't immediately running through something like Wine or Proton, then you might have to wait a bit for people to figure out how to run them, and then the first running experiences might not be as polished at first either.
Still… The more people swap over, the bigger this market grows, the bigger the support gets, the easier and streamlined the experience will be - and all that without the Windows bullshit on a free and open operating system.
Oh, and better RGB and VR compatibility is also just a matter of time.
Manjaro sucks. Don't use it. Use ubuntu.
@@AaronTechnic No. LTS distros suck, Apt sucks, and Gnome sucks too. Ubuntu is exactly what I am NOT looking for, especially on a gaming desktop.

Max Mustermann but only when linus is around I’m afraid
I love Linux, I use Linux as my daily driver, but I don't think this needs to happen. Linux should be the subject of a video once every 2-3 months AT MOST. I'd be much happier if Linux was added when benchmarking drives/CPUs/GPUs. (Linux has incredibly good filesystem performance, which will stand out when comparing drives.) They don't need to even say it, just sneak Linux numbers onto the graphs.
Actually, the next Linux vid should probably be this. Comparing performance across Steam's top 10:
- Windows vs Linux+Proton vs native Linux (where applicable)
- 10-series NVidia, proprietary vs Noveau
- AMD 5XX and Vega, Mesa vs AMDGPU-PRO (although Mesa should always be the winner unless you need CAD/OpenCL)

@@ZexMaxwell when he speak it's all beautyful, but the truth it's that nothing it's gonna change i think. Linux gaming it's something comin' out sometime from 10 years, but nothing ended up being realitstic. Other than that, youy can do a lot of things with linux, not gaming tough, direct x it's not available on linux, you can just emulat direct x on linux, since it's exclusive to windows. But if you need to emulate, you need a process that windows doesn't require, so performances are not going to be the same, in the best results.
Windows 10 is fine, apart from some recurring meme, but nothing bad at all, and imho it's the finest windows version we have ever had.

Since the making of this video, Garuda Linux has come out to specifically address gaming on Linux, complete with a well-designed UX that side-steps, almost entirely, the use of the terminal and gives gamers easy access to gaming-specific tools.
Similar to Manjaro, it's based on Arch Linux - which has some of the best documentation to be found for any distro.

I support this idea!
this please
Very good idea
So like actual "tech tips"? xD
That would be cool. Some of my favorite videos on LTT were about their servers and configuration, some of them even helped me set up mine.
"Linux is the future of gaming". Anthony predicting the Steam Deck right here.
“It’s a rabbit hole you may never want to climb out of”
Linus from the future: LET ME OUT
Great vid guys! Anthony is the perfect contrast to Linus. Calm, great articulation and solid knowledge!
LMAO love the back handed insult!
Someone didn't get the memo that the roast ended 4 days ago
ha
Except that, even while just watching, I must resist the gravitational urge to orbit him
So calm!
"Ubuntu is due for an update, like, now." Ubuntu literally released the newest update the same day.
Proof that Ubuntu developers are watching LTT
Ubuntu releases scheduled updates in April and October.
Coincidence? I think not.
TBF, Ubuntu doesn't run up-to-date kernels (feature-wise) unless it's features get back-ported for some critical security or mass regression issue. one minor example would be how WireGuard will be in-kernel as of 5.6. Having a built-in secure tunnel will be a big deal for network gaming, but it won't likely get back-ported to the LTS, in this case because there's a LKM (loadable kernel module) in wide-use that's just fine in the mean-time.
of course, the point of "updates" is that there is no release, like windows 10 it is more a software as a service, you have no privacy. Avoid Ubuntu.
-actual IT/secu consultant. I'd prefer to see Debian or Gentoo running on the machines but Mint gets the job done.
I wish I had Anthony as an IT teacher, he has such a lovely, relaxing vibe.
i'm not here for the actual topic of this video, but i must say, your audio quality is amazing. i appreciate that.
Anthony and James are GREAT together. Moar videos with them together please.
Yep. I just wish they'd speak to one another a bit much instead of looking so much at the camera, especially when they're specifically addressing each other. Besides that, yeah, bring in more contributors, that's a welcome change. :)
When he puts on sunglasses, immediately i see Gaben..
It's Gaben's cousin. Jaben.
What if Anthony is actually Gaben from an alternate dimension?
praise lord gaben
Now that you mentioned it.... I've never seen Anthony and Gaben together 🤔
I saw Peter Griffin.
6:00 Woah Woah Woah gonna have to stop you right there, buddy. Installing software from a website is not as EASY on Linux as it is on Windows but it's a helluva lot more CLEAN!
False. On Debian-based distro, you can just "sudo apt-get install" anything that's available (to some extent). For Arch-Linux based distros with pacman, you can just "sudo pacman -S" anything again. It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it, really.
it was all quiet and calm and funny until Linus said: “THANKS TO JOAN FOR SPONSORING THIS VIDEO”
Anthony's Morpheus parody was excellent. Worth the watch. Liked it within the first minute.
11/10 amazing intro
Same here.
Anthony is a likable guy.
I was also just thinking of trying Linux myself for this video was perfect.
@@producersRus Anthony nailed it.
maybe we should keep this kind of linux gaming series coming
Anthony thank you for sharing this after your video i switched from windows to Linux and I love it.
Anthony: there's proton!
Me: oh that aged well!
Anthony: and Stadia!
Me: that did NOT age well
Anthony is like the Computer world of David Attenborough.
He explains everything so well and easily, yet is so soothing.
Anthony is killing it!!! Been using Linux for 10+ years and I'm happy to see more videos like this coming out.
@OneGoogleUser Yeah it's pretty easy now a days. Still wont hurt to learn how linux works and some Bash. Linux is really powerful if you know how to use it.
I have never used any OS except window for almost 18yrs and I want to try linux
is linux much more lighter than windows?
Wow. This guy just converted me for Linux. He has great charisma for explaining stuff to layman.
