Funnily enough an author whose skill is conveying information, and a director who directs people to do things just so... Sounds like they might have transferrable skills
If anyone is interested in David Lynch’s class, his book Catching the Big Fish covers pretty much all of the same info but with a much more reasonable price tag than a Masterclass subscription!
Bruh your commentary on singing for someone and having to make it into a joke was the most relateable. Singing, like actually trying and not just goofing off, is so vulnerable.
The music part was interesting, it seemed like Usher was actually trying but there's only so much he can do without actually interacting with a student. You have a very sweet voice and you probably could do well if you pursued in-person lessons. Also The Rainbow Connection is hard that song requires a really relaxed tone over a wide range
One, I did not expect to get a Muppets song stuck in my head - I'm not mad about it. Two, I lost it at James saying, "oh, you really don't have to do that" upon you saying you'd try another song. Truly a best friend. I hope Usher taught you the power of friendship. I know Kermit did.
I was gifted a Masterclass subscription once and I immediate went to start a class with Jane Goodall and Amy Tan, whose works in their respective fields I really admire. And while I could tell that they had some very useful information and are extremely adept at what they do, neither lesson left any lingering knowledge or feeling in me. Which I think is not the fault of the professionals but of the class structure, in that there is no structure. Usually in a class, or an educational RUclips video, the "teacher" has to present something following varying degrees of lesson plan. Take Crashcourse for example. They're effective because they are concise lessons, not autobiographical. Basing the structure on a dinner may sound cool, but in a dinner you are participating in an active discussion, not just listening to an autobiography.
Actually Pinely sounded like he was getting close with that last try on singing the jook joint song, just needs to remember to push with his diaphragm.
The story about Bush, Putin and their dogs were amazing, I don't understand why it exists in a masterclass, but it's information I'm happy to have learned.
it's actually more complicated than that, it's called a semi occluded vocal tract exercise (aka SOVT) and helps with a LOT of stuff by basically being a way to warm up the same processes with less air and intensity than full on singing requires
First: The fact this took a month is so impressive!! Admire the work you took into making and editing this! Second: Dax Flame was my favorite segment! You can really see the improvement around 30:00. I was definitely giggling and kicking my feet lol. Lastly, being out of your comfort zone about singing is so real to see. I’ll scream my broken cords in my car alone 😂 I’d love to do karaoke tho. Rip to whoever hears me 😭
Dax is a sweetheart man! You can tell, he’s overcome alot of anxiety. I feel like younger me would have been harsh/judgmental to that type of persona, and I’m glad I’ve overcome that inclination, but I still don’t understand fully where it comes/came from, some type of insecurity I’m sure. But Dax’s wholesome vibes are life!
Pinley i'm so glad you're bringing your art back into your videos! it was one of my favorite things about your content back in the day and i was disappointed when you moved away from it.
I like the section with Dax. You fully nailed the vibe of a masterclass. A masterclass is like a lesson but with a very advanced teacher. The only way for a masterclass to work is if the teacher is fully engrossed in the students improvement.
I remember when I kept getting a masterclass ads that started with "It was dark in the wolf's stomach." it was about a wrighters masterclass. Then the ads suddenly stopped after seeing at least one a day for seemingly months.

I don’t think telling people to try copying someone / a group that’s like top tier, well, I’m not sure that’s the best way to find your voice and learn the basics of singing and breathwork! You’ve a lovely voice and I want to hear it singing free 🤩
Man, if there's one person who definitely shouldn't be giving lessons on leadership and the best way of achieving your goals, it's someone who has tried to be president twice and failed both times.

Trump's entire Presidency was the greatest gift to George W. Bush's Presidential legacy that he could have ever asked for. It got him off the hook for being one of the worst US Presidents ever in terms of pure incompetence, because almost everyone looks competent next to President Donald Trump.
its a little concerning how many of these entrepreneurs start their inspirational speeches with how as children they scammed people, like reselling shit for double the price isn’t impressive it’s unethical and yet they still try to peddle it as if they were ahead of their time and businesspeople in the making..
I mean yeah but if you’re going to be a good businessperson then overcharging people via whatever number of methods is a pretty important skill much of the time
This video made me think about this play I saw recently, it was a rendition of the first act of Our Town, acted entirely by beanie babies. The director, casting director, choreographer and “stage manager” (if familiar with the play you’ll know what I mean here) ended up blowing my mind, brilliant play (I really wasn’t sure what to expect sitting at a person’s dinner table with a couple friends and couple friends friends while they held up beanie babies across the table and did voices), and afterward while walking to our respective cars, one of the friend’s friends was like “man I really hate plays and I really hate sincere artistic expressions but that was amazing!” and I found it so funny that she made this conscious decision to do that. Our mutual friend asked her why she hates it and why did she come then and she said “oh it’s just so intimate when people just do something sincere, it makes me so uncomfortable but that’s why I go out of my way to experience others doing it like going to karaoke or open mics, because I could never do that.” Anyhow just a thought on sincerity.
that friend of a friend is kind of a beautiful person for doing that. I know what she means, I get uncomfortable with that sort of sincerity, and the intimacy that comes with it. so cool and mature of her to seek out that kind of experience anyway, and cool of her to challenge herself. I'm so glad she ended up enjoying it!! I feel like me and a lot of other people need to do the same. cynicism is kind of easy but being genuine can be very hard.

What you put in is what you get. Yeah, like with any paid online course, the real benefits depend on the efforts of the student. If you pay for an online course but you don't actually go through the classes and material for months, that's on you. Same thing applies to paying for streaming services that you don't end up using. These online classes aren't just like streaming shows where you just watch and commentate. You have to actually do stuff and apply yourself to the advice given by the MasterClass Instructors, who are successful legends in their fields. And again, your MasterClass experience will vary depending on what subjects and topics you're interested in. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I won't like the Mark Cuban and Howard Schultz MasterClasses because I think billionaires are bastards and all that. But again, it's my decision to click on their videos. I can always choose to watch a MasterClass from someone I like on a topic that I'm interested in. Like, if you have any interest in Cooking, Writing, Acting, or Filmmaking, you have a literal treasure trove of legendary experts in the field whose advice would be worth the annual subscription several dozens times over. Like, if Pinely had chosen to watch the MasterClasses of people he actually likes and respects in the creative field, like Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Aaron Sorkin, Steve Martin, etc. , I'm pretty sure he would have loved the lessons.
@@ajiththomas2465 Well I’ll take your advice. It’s not that i’ve been on the same courses for months or anything, and my mother has very much drilled into me how you need to apply and not just watch/read and other such self improvement ideas. I love RuPaul for a lot of reasons but being a relatable helpful caring person is not one of them 😂
Wintour was born into a family with a ton of print media connections. I don't think that's teachable.
And it's the exact same sht that Ru already forces into Drag Race against everyone's will
The Neil Gaiman and David Lynch classes are great.
So... the ones given by actual masters of their crafts...
Funnily enough an author whose skill is conveying information, and a director who directs people to do things just so...
Sounds like they might have transferrable skills
Neil Gaiman's masterclass is something I'd pay for tbh
If anyone is interested in David Lynch’s class, his book Catching the Big Fish covers pretty much all of the same info but with a much more reasonable price tag than a Masterclass subscription!
Angrily yelling “you know what I did today?! Usher had me run in a park!” Has me actually crying laughing
Ok but Bush being self conscious about his dog when walking with Putin was pretty funny
So this is what evil pinely was hiding behind the cardboard all this time.
Bruh your commentary on singing for someone and having to make it into a joke was the most relateable. Singing, like actually trying and not just goofing off, is so vulnerable.
I forgot how much Dax Flame makes every single interaction absolutely hilarious
The music part was interesting, it seemed like Usher was actually trying but there's only so much he can do without actually interacting with a student. You have a very sweet voice and you probably could do well if you pursued in-person lessons.
Also The Rainbow Connection is hard that song requires a really relaxed tone over a wide range
That price tag made me forget about ever using master class. I literally forgot it existed
I liked how Dax built up the funny comment into a full stand-up bit. It shows how to build up to a routine, how to play with the wording and delivery.
This isn't Orr anymore, this is a big shot celebrity
Thats what ive been saying
As a low empathy autistic the idea of just finding empathy in a treasure chest both intrigues and terrifies me
Actually, that's how it works for everyone. You just didn't find the box 😎
As a high empathy autistic I wish I could take it out and stash it in a box for a fucking rest sometimes...
It would probably go like most items and sit in your inventory.
Pray you never find that box, autistic hyperempathy fucking sucks
big up pinely uploading at midnight when i just got home with my doner kebab
Ah love bumping into you guys randomly! Hi from Bradford, enjoy the doner!
Whats a doner kebab?
@@dannyg.4421 a dirty drunken delicacy
@TPD okay fine, I will find this and eat this. I will report back later
@@dannyg.4421 you definitely should, with ALL the chilli sauce, it’s good shit!
Find someone who looks at you like James looks at Pinely singing a real song after trolling for 15 mins.
Bush bro is so hurt by his dog being dissed by Putin that he probably thinks about it at least once a day lmao
Dax flame was an excellent addition to this video
The blurring out of Mark Cuban's feet sent me 😂😂
32:30 I can not believe you used the title theme of the finding nemo games, and that i immediately recognized it
orr's voice is actually nice, he just doesn't have vocal control
... yet
Alternate punchline for comedy attempt #1- "I was benched so much, they called me 'Bench Appearo'"
This joke was too good for the comment section, apparently. Not everyone is a comedic genius, I guess
Actually Pinely sounded like he was getting close with that last try on singing the jook joint song, just needs to remember to push with his diaphragm.
Yesss his voice is actually so pretty
The story about Bush, Putin and their dogs were amazing, I don't understand why it exists in a masterclass, but it's information I'm happy to have learned.
Love the painted cardboard background for this video, it's genuinely beautiful!!
I was scrolling through instagram with my gf when a Masterclass ad about "How to get better sex" shows up and she instantly side eyed me.
oof dude 😅
The "baby sounds" warm up, from what I know, is just something for better breath control (which can indirectly impact your voice).
moreso for warming up muscles
it's actually more complicated than that, it's called a semi occluded vocal tract exercise (aka SOVT) and helps with a LOT of stuff by basically being a way to warm up the same processes with less air and intensity than full on singing requires
I’ll scream my broken cords in my car alone 😂
I’d love to do karaoke tho. Rip to whoever hears me 😭
I don't know about you guys, but I learned how to obtain world domination from Pinky and The Brain from MasterClass.
Well at least one of them is a genius. That other guy though, I hear he's a little nuts
Thank you for this glorious upload on my bday pinely, its been a tough one so far, but this is AN HOUR OF CONTENT WOOOO. Im just so glad it isnt evil
AAAA happy birthday !!!!!!!!!!!!
yo happy birthday mate
@@Mushroomelixir Thank u tons :3
@@miguel7888 Thank you!!!! I really appreciate it :))
Happy birthday
Pinley i'm so glad you're bringing your art back into your videos! it was one of my favorite things about your content back in the day and i was disappointed when you moved away from it.
i love how earnestly Dax gave him advice
i love the cardboard backgrounds i want to eat them
I know right
I like the section with Dax. You fully nailed the vibe of a masterclass. A masterclass is like a lesson but with a very advanced teacher. The only way for a masterclass to work is if the teacher is fully engrossed in the students improvement.
I find it funny that Ushers song on how to sing has noticeable autotune
I remember when I kept getting a masterclass ads that started with "It was dark in the wolf's stomach." it was about a wrighters masterclass. Then the ads suddenly stopped after seeing at least one a day for seemingly months.
Omg same! Although from what I hear a lot of the writing masterclasses are pretty good. I've only taken Neil Gaiman's class and I really enjoyed it.
truly truly love the section of orr getting legit comedy advice, so interesting to see & experience even as someone not trying to get into the comedy scene. also i love james acaster and see a lot of his style in u (not even derivatively like. similar vibes and i love em)
seeing dax flame was such a fun surprise!!!! my worlds colliding
Dog measuring contest.
TLDR: No but also, yes
Pinely, I think you’ve got some real potential for singing! I’m being 100% genuine. I don’t think telling people to try copying someone / a group that’s like top tier, well, I’m not sure that’s the best way to find your voice and learn the basics of singing and breathwork! You’ve a lovely voice and I want to hear it singing free 🤩
Im so happy to see your drawings and animations again. They're what brought me to your channel years ago
The cardboard background looks so cool!! Thanks for your hard work on this video
"if you named it, I sucked it" Pinely 2024
Man, if there's one person who definitely shouldn't be giving lessons on leadership and the best way of achieving your goals, it's someone who has tried to be president twice and failed both times.
The “billed annually” part is where it all breaks down for me. I literally cannot afford that 😂
“Putin emasculated my dog right in front of me, so I don’t like him anymore 🥺” we shouldn’t listen to rich people anymore
I’m so proud of you for going out of your comfort zone. James’s adoring face was so precious 😂
listening to Pinley trying to sing is honestly so sweet bc he seems so vulnerable im giggling
The energy and work thanks Pinely and I felt the rainbow concection ✨🐸
Why is this GW Bush clip talking about his dog being dissed not viral?! That's the funniest shit I've seen in a while.
Trump's entire Presidency was the greatest gift to George W. Bush's Presidential legacy that he could have ever asked for. It got him off the hook for being one of the worst US Presidents ever in terms of pure incompetence, because almost everyone looks competent next to President Donald Trump.
Great video! Loved how in-depth you went and the section with Dax Flame!
loved hearing your eleven attempts at the hemorrhoids joke, thanks pinely! 👏
i have now finished the video and would like to make a correction. there were twelve attempts
I really love your cardboard set, it makes you stand out and its so cool looking!
I'm weeping at the calm singing juxtaposed with the intense running
it’s pronounced “sue veed”, it’s a cooking technique where you vacuum seal meat like steak in a bag and boil it :3c
Woulda known this if he had taken the Gordon Ramsay master class, haha.
its a little concerning how many of these entrepreneurs start their inspirational speeches with how as children they scammed people, like reselling shit for double the price isn’t impressive it’s unethical and yet they still try to peddle it as if they were ahead of their time and businesspeople in the making..
I mean yeah but if you’re going to be a good businessperson then overcharging people via whatever number of methods is a pretty important skill much of the time
I love how sincere Dax is, what a great sport! ❤
The Dax Flame collab was so unexpected I loved it so much
This video made me think about this play I saw recently, it was a rendition of the first act of Our Town, acted entirely by beanie babies.
I wrote this fairly poorly but I’m high so my apologies
that friend of a friend is kind of a beautiful person for doing that. I know what she means, I get uncomfortable with that sort of sincerity, and the intimacy that comes with it. so cool and mature of her to seek out that kind of experience anyway, and cool of her to challenge herself. I'm so glad she ended up enjoying it!! I feel like me and a lot of other people need to do the same. cynicism is kind of easy but being genuine can be very hard.
also the beanie baby showing of Our Town sounds incredible
@@blueberrybeyblade it fuckin slapped so hard
Love the basketball theme being brought back for the end, that was a genuinely cool thing
having dax not be in on the joke was the funniest thing I've seen all week
The more relaxed and comfortable you got with singing, the better your voice was. You're actually a pretty good natural singer!
Great stuff, home from the dentist (which i always hate going to) and notice a new Pinely vid 😊 Love Evil Pinely but its always awesome to have a long Pinely deep dive to watch!
You have such genuine, chill vibes and i love the cardboard backgrounds :)
oh my god, thank you for covering this lol. last christmas my mother gifted me a one year membership to masterclass, and i couldn’t find anyone actually talking about if its actually of any use? because to me it hasn’t at all so far (just starting the vid now)
What you put in is what you get.
So it isn’t that i don’t know that. But I personally haven’t found much helpful content from the courses I have tried so far. But I will take your advice and give it a shot
Bush saying "diss" sent me 💀
actually laughed out loud that you censored Mark Cuban's feet lmao
hey if you genuinely wanna sing and listen to yourself while singing, you can enable this handy dandy setting if you go into sound settings->recording->listen to device. i'm not a singer but i use it pretty often to hear myself while i record stuff
TIL there's a non-evil Pinely channel.
This video is a masterclass in comedy. I haven't laughed this many times in a single video in so long. Thank you for making this video.
One of your best episodes, though I was hoping you took a lesson from scientologist Nancy Cartwright, on voice actings, or Auditing, can't remember
Just found this by chance. Thought it a clickbaity title and didn’t really expect comedy. Loved it and the fact that your comedy idol is James Acaster is incredible too. Subscribed and looking forward to watching more.
